Wowzers, thanks very much for the sample Kieblera5 aka KIEBS!

This tea was an ALL DAY tea for me. I drank on it for 8 hours straight. The first few steeps it tasted like a cross between a green and a sheng. Very buttered sweet green veggies for me, and then it opened up and became fruity complex sheng flavor, and just ended up honey sweet gold by the end. Very much a FEEL GOOD tea. Felt so pleasant and happy all day drinking it. A little buzzed but not crazy tea drunk. Very VERY nice!

Crimson Lotus Tea

This one really makes me feel good as well!

I had the pleasure of visiting this tea shop in person last Saturday. They were about to close and the owner Donna was kind enough to stay a little late to show me around and tell me about her teas. The shop is chock full of vintage teaware and other goodies! Donna was extremely kind to me. She had heard of Steepster but did not realize a few of her teas were already reviewed here! I wish I could have bought more of her teas but she didn’t have any sample sizes so I picked two different packages and then she included a couple of free samples with my purchase. She does her own blending and sources organic teas whenever she can which is super cool. Also she uses locally made chocolate AND gummy bears in some of her teas!

ANYWAY, this herbal tea. I was so curious because the first ingredient is eucalyptus! Not sure I’ve ever had that in a tea before. This tea has a LOT going on. I am actually impressed with how balanced this tastes. None of the strong elements are sticking out. There is a cooling sensation from the mint and eucalyptus. I am a very picky person about my herbals and I am impressed! My only complaint is not really a complaint, more of a personal preference thing. I’m not sure the black tea is adding anything flavor wise and if it were omitted I’d be able to drink this one in the evenings and not worry about the caffeine!

Nice first experience with this tea seller.

Thank you for the sample Phi!

Wow, a sheng with a creamy vanilla note! Very interesting! I wasn’t sure I was going to like this tea at first. My first steep started a little bland, second was creamy vanilla pudding and third started to develop a caramel note :)

Very interesting and tasty but again not something I will end up purchasing. Hurray for TeaFriend samples

drank Xi Kong 2014 Spring by Tea Urchin

Thank you for the sample Phi!

I’ve never had a sheng quite like this. Extremely floral, with notes of hay and honey and sunshine. The florals are different than the florals I get from other young sheng. I picture the flowers in my head and they are blue and purple instead of white and yellow. (I know that is a little odd.) Pretty thick liquor too. Not quite sweet, but not bitter either. An enigma! Very tasty. Totally up my alley and I want to drink more but not for this price.

jschergen

I like that one too. It’s one of my favorites from their 2014 line, along with the Gaoshan Zhai.

This is pretty good! Thanks for the swap sample Liquid Proust

Do you like roasted teas? This seems to be one of the better ones that I have tried so far… I’m trying to work on some myself, but Japanese roasted tea has one strong flavor

Stephanie

Yes I do like flavored roasty houjicha from Lupicia. Their milk caramel is another one I’ve had and really enjoyed.

I’m not actually drinking this tea currently as I only have one serving left and I am HOARDING IT! On that note I would like to ask if anyone has tried any teas that are NOT sold out that taste similar to this one :)

Thanks!

AllanK

The following tea from Yunnan Sourcing is very good. Not sure how it compares but it’s good.

This is so good…why do I keep falling in love with samples of $100+ cakes I can’t afford :(

Terri HarpLady

That is our way :)

Stephanie

+1 for expensive tastes :P

KiwiDelight

One day you will afford it, though, right?? :D

Stephanie

If it happens like last time KiwiDelight, they will sell out before I save up. The Guafengzai I was in love with is out of stock weeps for GFZ

boychik

it is just learning experience. i cannot drink only pu i can afford.

KiwiDelight

Hmmm, Christmas bonus?

Maybe I shouldn’t try to rationalize.

DigniTea

This is a very fine tea!

Enabling?

mrmopar

Agreed, love the $$$ stuff as well!

Stephanie

I can find cheap shou that is delicious, but I oh do I love expensive young sheng!

BezoomnyChaiVeck

Let’s buy this cake! =D

Stephanie

I DO think I want to put together a group order!

looseTman

I’ve not yet had the pleasure of tasting Tea Urchin pu’erh. What about this sheng made you fall in love with it?

Stephanie

LooseTman they will make you a set of samples for $30 if you shoot them an email! That’s how I got addicted :) This particular one I really like for its complexity and pleasant bitterness. It also has a wonderful energy. I just feel good when I drink it! My favorite cake from them that is not sold out is the Miles Birthday blend, I’d really really like to get a couple of people to go in on a cake of THAT one with me! :D

Stephanie

Yeah, I HAVE to get more of that Miles cake before it sells out…I need at least one other person to go in on it with me though :(

jschergen

If you really liked their 2012 Guafengzhai, they’re supposedly pressing a Guafengzhai cake this year again.. Should be 200g. Maybe more affordable?

Doug F

This was one of my favorites too, along with the Lao Man E

Stephanie

Thanks for the tip jschergen!

Doug F I have a sample of that, too, I should revisit it soon :)
