I decided to sample this tea on my lunch break at home so I could brew it up at proper temperature for a tasting note. I brewed 1 tablespoon of tea at 195 degrees F for a couple of minutes. This is an extremely smooth, honey-sweet black tea. Bright and bold and clean, the only thing I can think to compare it to in my tea palette is a crisp Ceylon. There is a very faint floral note resembling a green oolong. There are no dark nutty or malty notes present. Very interesting and tasty tea! I’m glad I have a large sample so I can try it a few more times :)

Thanks Mantra Tea!

I’m really enjoying this cup but it is not what I intended to drink today. I walked out the door this morning without my chosen tea AND without my apple for 2nd breakfast! Luckily I had some of this in my desk. Always have emergency tea stashes at the office, folks!

Courtney

Phew for work tea stashes.

Cavocorax

As long as that stash doesn’t lose control! :O
(I have about 25 teas at work to choose from, but most of them are sample sizes! I don’t want it to be too obvious!)

caile

hehe, 25 different teas doesn’t seem obvious at all.. :-P

TheTeaFairy

Yummy tea :-)

Stephanie

Now I want to count my teas in my work stash, but I’m scared! LOL

Cavocorax

Hahaah. They fit in a little tin? And another tin on top of that tin? Next to my bag of filters and my measuring spoon, and my special tea mug and my bubble cup. Yikes.

I’m very grateful to Starfevre for letting me try some of this. It has always been on my “holy crap this flavor sounds amazing I must try it someday!” list, but with the mixed reviews I’ve been scared to invest in a whole package.

This morning I whipped some up as a hot latte with honey. This matcha smells AMAZING. Exactly like it is described, it smells like a macadamia praline! Now, why can’t it taste exactly like it smells? There IS something a touch artificial tasting about it. It is drinkable, but definitely not something I would purchase in the future. I don’t have many flavors of matcha laying around right now, so I will easily finish this sample though. It’s a nice change up and will tide me over until I can order a better tasting nutty flavored matcha in the future! :)

Skysamurai

That sounds amazing. Putting it on my list!

I’m drinking the last of my sample of this tea from my last Mandala order. I have the 2013 “tea nugget” style. I am plotting an order soon (almost out of Special Dark! oh noes!!) so I wanted to finish up this sample and decide if I need to buy some when I place my order…

I’m really enjoying this today. It is rich and very smooth! I think I prefer this one’s flavor over the Phatty Cake! It is somewhat earthy but very clean. This is a shu I could drink regularly, though my favorite is still the Special Dark!

boychik

Special Dark is truly special;)

Tea-tini time! The vodka tea infusion steeped up beautifully! I then combined 1 and 1/2 shots of tea vodka with 1/2 shot of simple syrup and 1/3 shot of fresh squeezed lime juice and shook with ice. It tastes fancy and expensive! ;)

Fjellrev

Nicely done! It most definitely sounds fancy an expensive.

I only have one serving of this left and I’m super sad! My fave herbal blend of all time…will definitely be re-ordering ASAP. Wonderful winter evening drink.

Bonnie

I love it too!

Another excellent tea swap from Dexter3657

I’m quite impressed that this tea reads 100% apricot and NOT peach! I’m enjoying it hot but I bet it would be fantastic iced. The black base is super smooth. Simple yet sophisticated!

TheTeaFairy

I adore peach teas, This would totally work for me!

Dexter

Glad you are enjoying it Stephanie.

TheTeaFairy – those are the kind of comments that cause additional teas to be added to “your” box. Just thought I would give you fair warning on how this works. :))

TheTeaFairy

Yay, i was hopping you’d say that, hahaha!

Dexter

LOL – good to know we are both on the same page…..

I was quite pleased to win this 1oz sample in a Facebook contest, because I’m a huge fan of white tea and raspberry! I’m getting plenty of bold raspberry flavor from this, and some gentle white tea in the background. I’m not sure if I am detecting the white chocolate or not, but it may be contributing to the candy-like flavor. This is not the sort of thing I personally tend to enjoy hot, but I think this would be wonderful iced, or steeped in vodka for a tea-tini! Also I may try whipping up some tea syrup for tea sodas out of this one. Very nice offering from Della Terra if you are a fan of raspberries! Thanks again for the free sample!!

Sounds wonderful.

Stephanie

Actually, I’m super excited about tea-tinis now, and I’m off to put a couple of tsps in a tiny mason jar with some vodka to steep! :D

moraiwe

Tea-tinis sound amazing. I wonder how Della Terra’s S’mores would be in S’more vodka and then topped with whipped cream. hmmmmm

Stephanie

moraiwe- You wouldn’t need to put in into s’more vodka, you could make it yourself!!! You just steep the tea in plain vodka for a couple days and it flavors it right up! Homemade s’more TEA vodka!

moraiwe

Well, I have S’mores vodka, and it tastes like burnt gram crakers (which is almost impressive really) and the Della Terra one tastes like chocolate and marshmallow, so I’m wondering if it’d be like. A power team lol

__Morgana__

Whoa. Have never had a tea-tini. Now I want to try one. Lol.

Stephanie

Oh! I get it now moraiwe- go for it :D

drank Organic Guayusa by Butiki Teas
842 tasting notes

After enjoying some of Butiki’s flavored guayusa blends (Good morning sunshine is my favorite, but the Killer’s vanilla is good, too!) my husband asked me to get some straight guayusa so we could taste it by itself. It is quite nice! Not too strong a flavor, actually. Pretty mild and grassy, and sort of nutty. Very stimulating! It is very drinkable straight but I would still prefer to drink a flavored one because why not?

Today I am trying an organic black tea my friend gave me that HER friend brought her back from Nepal. I think it is technically a little old and stale, but it has a bold, pleasantly astringent breakfast tea type flavor. I won’t have any trouble finishing the sample she gave me :)
