1112 Tasting Notes

I’m finally tasting the 2014 version! Thanks for the sample Garret

Well, this is a delicious sheng. Not the same as 2012…no smoke at the beginning, a little more bold. Still VERY enjoyable though with a great energy! I’m glad to report that it is a suitable replacement for the last harvest :)

I still plan to use the rest of my sample to do a side by side comparison! Then I should be able to write a better note! :D Fun!!

Terri HarpLady

I should get some of this while I still have some of the previous one, so I can compare them :) I’m way overdue for a Mandala order anyway, & thanks to online itunes sales, I actually have some money in my playpal account!

Great to know, Stephanie…I’m still sipping on my 2012, but those days are almost gone :-(

I ordered another 2012 cake that I may hoard forever and ever, lol.

I love them both. I love the 2012 version so dearly and was certainly anxious to see what the autumn 2013 mao cha would turn into once pressed. I dig it. Totally drinkable now. And yes… waaaaay less smoke, due to processing and time of year it was harvested. Lots to hold my interest in the new pressing, for sure. So excited that I could make another pressing happen.

It’s fun to get down with the Wild Monk no matter what vintage. Sometimes, it’s the only thing that makes sense, am I right?

We have only a few tongs left of the Wild Monk 2012. One of them is mine :)

Grooviness to you all,

drank Dark Rose Tea by TeaSource

After my bad puerh experience this morning I wanted something “safe” I know I like this afternoon! Plus I was still craving pu. This works out nicely :)

Thanks again for the cute little heart tea Amanda Wilson !

Terri HarpLady

I’ve been thinking of trying these little hearts, always open for a novelty. They look adorable, anyway. :)

They’re simple, clean tasting, lightly fermented, and reasonably priced. Can’t really go wrong! Seems like folks who don’t like shu don’t like it. I could send you a couple if you want to try them, Terri

So it’s not puerh. Is it heicha?

They call it “Dark tea” but I think they might be the same thing boychik

Terri HarpLady

Stephanie, that would be awesome!
Seems like I owe you some tea, don’t I?
(I know I owe tea to boychik, & several others…sorry, I’m a slacker lately…no, I’ve just been incredibly busy for awhile)

no worries, Terri.

Backlogging here…

Whatever this one was, I LOVE IT! It is definitely a raw/sheng puerh. SUPER fruity. Apricot/stone fruit mostly. Wonderful!

Isn’t stone fruit interesting?!

YES! Shengs are probably the most interesting teas of all in my opinion :) Especially really good and complex ones like this one!

Shengs will grow on you…

Terri HarpLady

I initially preferred Shu, but that has changed for me.

Oof…this sheng is not for me! BLEH! I might have to dump it out :(

2nd steep is slightly more drinkable…but still!

What does a bad sheng taste like? newb

Bitter, “funky”…no sweetness or pleasant fruitiness. Try #7 if you want to taste a good but really unusual sheng!

Thank you so much Courtney for sharing some of your precious Bavarian Cream with me!

This is one of my favorite matcha flavors now. Really good and creamy and vanilla-y :D

It has been a really long time since I actually ate anything filled with Bavarian cream, but it seems pretty spot-on flavor wise!

I’m so glad you enjoyed it!

I just ordered this one! Now I’m really excited to try it.

Thank you Marzipan for a sample of this tea!

This is quite good chocolate tea. So many of them I have tried were artificial tasting, or not paired with a nice base tea…this one is good though! Not quite as good as Fauchon chocolate eclair, which is my favorite, but definitely one of the better ones I’ve had :)

drank Winter Fire by Butiki Teas

Yay! I am finally trying this guayusa! It has intrigued me for a long time. I requested it as a sample with my Butiki order a while back and kind of forgot about it. I probably should have chosen a more wintery day before it was in the 80s outside, but oh well.

This is really good! I can actually feel the spicy! It isn’t TOO hot though. It isn’t making my eyes water or anything, heh. The tingle feels good on my allergy inflamed sinuses and throat :)

Tastes nice, too. I am drinking it plain but it would be nice sweetened. I’m going to give the other half of my sample to my husband because he loves spicy stuff! I would consider ordering this in the future, for sure.

I don’t think I’ve tried a guayusa yet.. this one sounds like fun being so spicy.

It also perks me up like coffee! But no jitters :)

Pun intended ?!?! :)

Thank you so much KiwiDelight for a surprise sample of this in our swap!

Wow this is a extremely floral oolong, without being perfumey! It is like a gentle lilac aroma floating on a breeze…sweet and slighty vegetal tasting too. I like it very much!!!

Yay! I like this one a lot, so glad you like too! :]

Thanks Garret for a sample of this with my recent Mandala order!

This is the 2014 harvest. I don’t think I’ve ever seen such large FUZZY white tea leaves! This is seriously some fluffy downy stuff :) The kind of tea you want to pet like a kitty!

I may have slightly underleafed this for my tastes. It is so hard to measure big leaves! This is a smooth, creamy white though. Light but with a rich earthiness. Creamy hay may not sound appealing but that is what it reminds me of. Sweet and summery :)

This tea makes my mouth water :) It’s been so fun to break this new crop out for the tea classes lately. I typically will do my first steep at 5 to 8 minutes when I am working with a white tea. This stuff works great in a tea thermos (grandpa style), too. Try a longer steep with it and see what you get.

And I am the one who should be doing the thanking, pal :) So, without further adieu – THANK YOU!!

Marzipan gave me some of this tea! Thanks!!!

It is one of the first teas I purchased from Butiki ages ago and I haven’t had it in forever!

Not my favorite offering from Butiki but still very enjoyable :)

Graphic artist, printmaker, lover of tea.

I love pretty much every type of tea camellia sinensis can produce. I like herbal teas sometimes but I can’t stand rooibos. I’m recently becoming a puerh addict.

Butiki, Verdant, Mandala, TeaVivre, Yunnan Sourcing, TeaUrchin, White2Tea and Den’s are my favorite online retailers so far.
