drank With Open Eyes by Butiki Teas

My husband has been requesting tea syrup for tea sodas a lot lately, and this is the most recent one we’ve tried. I can’t really detect the tea itself in this soda, but it tastes like delicious strawberry butter toffee cream soda! Can’t complain!! Real tasty :)

Starfevre

How do you make your tea syrup?

Stephanie

One cup of triple strong brewed tea simmered with 3/4 cup sugar and chilled :)

I’m honored to get to try such a rare and unusual tea. In 1991 I was 10 years old, heh. It’s funny to think that this tea has been around that long!

This tastes unlike any other oolong I’ve experienced. It is creamy, dark/toasty and almost nutty, yet still sweet! Luckily though this is delicious, I doubt it is something I’ll be craving and wishing I could afford to buy again real soon. (Unlike the other expensive Butiki I splurged on, Japanese Puerh! SUPER TASTY! WILL BE RESTOCKING!)

The creaminess is so distinctive and hard to describe! I really can’t think of anything to compare it to…but it has a very well rounded flavor overall.

Youngster!

Stephanie

32 doesn’t feel super young, but I guess it doesn’t feel old, either :)

mrmopar

Agreed on both points! I am in the over the hill gang.. well alsmost. I always say you are as young as you think you are, so I am only about 25.

I wasn’t even born in 1991…

Stephanie

Well you are just a baby then, hehe ;)

TheTeaFairy

This 1991 and 2003 reserve four season =my favourite aged oolong!

Almost a sip down….I REALLY wish I could order more of this tea before it is gone. I LOVE me some Dancong and this is a particularly nice one. It is juicy, thick, and floral but still dark and mysterious.

Dexter

I know I have SOME of this, I’m pretty sure I have LOTS of this – at work can’t check for sure – would be more than happy to send you some – lots depending on how much I have. Let me know if you would like some. :))

Stephanie

Aww, that is mighty kind of you!

Perhaps we can swap or something. PM me :)

Dexter

I’ll send you a PM when I get home tonight and let you know exactly how much I have – will works something out…

I was ambivalent about this one hot. But iced? OMG, it’s so good iced…

This is another great tea for the dead of winter. Very warming with the cinnamon and vanilla, and strongly caffeinated from the black tea and puerh to perk me up :)

I will hopefully enjoy re-steeping this one all day at work!

Sad sample sipdown! This was one of my faves from Teavivre so far. It is especially nice in this weather, since it is so malty and rich and comforting. Definitely going on my “re-order some day when my stash can handle more tea” list!

TheTeaFairy

Ahhh, this one is soooo good! I ran out recently and will definitely reorder, love how big those pearls are!

Stephanie

I didn’t realize how much they would expand the first time I tried em. WAY overleafed, lol!

TheTeaFairy

I know, right? They grow these super long tentacles, like giant spider legs, haha!

drank Long Island Cola by Island Rose

Thank you Skysamurai for letting me try this unique tea!

I’m generally a fan of hibiscusy herbals, so I was excited to try this one and intrigued by the cola aspect. It steeps up a BRIGHT purplish red immediately and smells distinctly of cola. I took a couple of sips hot and knew I wanted to pour the rest over ice. I think I really like this tea conceptually. I think the hibiscus, cinnamon and cola pair well together, but the stevia is throwing me off. If this had no sweetener so I could add my own I would be much happier, I think. Really unique though and I’m glad I got to try it! :)

Starfevre

I hate stevia so I hate it when they add that in.

Stephanie

Yeah, this blend would be nice otherwise! :/

Skysamurai

I agree. Stevia can be odd but this one definitely is better cold.

Ooof. This weather! We didn’t even get that much snow compared to the rest of the state…but it is so cold my garage door was frozen shut and my boss had to come pick me up and bring me to work :(

Anyway, LOTS OF HOT TEA TODAY. Special dark is perfect for this weather :)

Made this one into tea syrup and combined with carbonated water for a tea soda! Very nice this way :)

ambeth

Psst… How do you do your tea syrup?

Butiki Teas

Oooh, that sounds lovely!

Stephanie

For this tea syrup I brewed 1 cup of tea, triple strong. Then I simmered the Super Tea with 3/4 cup sugar. Chill and add to carbonated water to taste!

Stephanie

This one was great but I slightly prefer the Ruby Pie as my tea syrup of choice :)

Sil

yeah baby! RUBY PIE! woot woot!

ambeth

Thank-you for the instructions! :)

Still enjoying this one. I don’t think I would reorder if it became available for sale but it is welcome in my cupboard as long as it lasts!
