1113 Tasting Notes
Thanks so much Jennkay for a sample of this tea!
I love Japanese greens but I’m not sure I’ve ever tried a bancha! The dry leaves look very fresh and HUGE. Brewed up it is extremely green and vegetal tasting and smelling, like spinach or maybe kale, but somewhat sweet and almost a little spicy. It is a very interesting change up from the types of greens I’m used to! Very fun to try :)
OMG this is even better than I remember it being. Once again, kudos Stacy and JustJames…major WIN on this blend! So perfect. I can’t think of a single thing I would change about it. I absolutely adore it hot, but I am quite excited to try it iced this summer. Coconut banana tropical iced tea? Heck yes!
Preparation
ohhhh, I’m really not the best person to be writing the first note on this tea, haha. Welp, here goes nothing!
First off, thanks very much to boychik for the sample! I’m a moron and forgot to do a rinse before my first steep, which I did in my semi-western style. 1 min steep. I have never had a shu this sweet! I am assuming it is a shu?? I’m not even sure, it tastes so different…no dark woodsy musty notes, but definitely a fermented taste here. There is a faint taste of bamboo shoots…perhaps from the basket?
I’m not sure if this is something I’d want to drink regularly, but I’m enjoying it this morning and just appreciating how DIFFERENT it is. I will be interested to see if the next steeps change much flavor-wise.
I drank a to-go mug of this while I taught my block printing class this afternoon. It helped keep me alert but not jittery and tasted lemony and great! My class went really well but now I’m so tired and kind of have an adrenaline hangover headache, lol. I will feel much more confident if I get to do this again, and way less nervous the next time :)
Preparation
I’ve been saving my sample of this for a special occasion. I’m teaching my first class later today and I am SO NERVOUS! Looking for that theanine calmness :)
Anyway, of course this tea is amazingly sweet and smooth and vegetal. Very luxurious and velvety. Wish I could drink this more often! I do enjoy sencha as well but this is definitely a special treat!
Preparation
Got my Butiki box today. YAY!!!
This reminds me SO MUCH of Good Morning Sunshine, minus the guayusa. It is very good, creamy, lemony, tasty tasty…but probably will not be a re-purchase for me. I get why everyone is raving about it though and am totally glad I tried it! :D
Preparation
I got a nice sample of this from Jennkay Thanks!
I was extremely curious about a “premium” CTC tea…and on a quest to Try All the Butikis!
This was a very nice bold malty breakfast tea. I enjoy the flavor, but I only really get the one flavor note from it. I’m ok with that though, since that one single flavor is so nice! I will have no problem at all finishing the sample but I doubt it’ll be a re-buy for me. So many other nice black teas out there, even others from Butiki!
Sipdown!
I had been hoarding the very last of this tea. I love all of Verdant’s Laoshan offerings, but this one is pretty high on that list :) It is so sweet and vegetal and tangy and creamy all at the same time. Sad to see it go but I know there’ll always be something from Laoshan in my cupboard so it’s all good.
Sample sipdown! Found this one in my desk drawer at work. I think it was from BrewTEAlly Sweet ages ago!
Good stuff. So rare for me to like a vanilla tea, much less one with lavender. A testament to Stacy’s blending wizardry, I suppose! I’d re-order this one but I slightly prefer the Good Morning Sunshine for my flavored guayusa kick :)
I can’t make up my mind on those two blends! I thought The Killer’s Vanilla would be good for starting off an all-nighter, while Good Morning Sunshine would keep me awake long enough to physically hand in the paper later in the afternoon.. Maybe that’s too much guayusa.
