1112 Tasting Notes
I decided to sample this tea on my lunch break at home so I could brew it up at proper temperature for a tasting note. I brewed 1 tablespoon of tea at 195 degrees F for a couple of minutes. This is an extremely smooth, honey-sweet black tea. Bright and bold and clean, the only thing I can think to compare it to in my tea palette is a crisp Ceylon. There is a very faint floral note resembling a green oolong. There are no dark nutty or malty notes present. Very interesting and tasty tea! I’m glad I have a large sample so I can try it a few more times :)
Thanks Mantra Tea!
I’m very grateful to Starfevre for letting me try some of this. It has always been on my “holy crap this flavor sounds amazing I must try it someday!” list, but with the mixed reviews I’ve been scared to invest in a whole package.
This morning I whipped some up as a hot latte with honey. This matcha smells AMAZING. Exactly like it is described, it smells like a macadamia praline! Now, why can’t it taste exactly like it smells? There IS something a touch artificial tasting about it. It is drinkable, but definitely not something I would purchase in the future. I don’t have many flavors of matcha laying around right now, so I will easily finish this sample though. It’s a nice change up and will tide me over until I can order a better tasting nutty flavored matcha in the future! :)
I’m drinking the last of my sample of this tea from my last Mandala order. I have the 2013 “tea nugget” style. I am plotting an order soon (almost out of Special Dark! oh noes!!) so I wanted to finish up this sample and decide if I need to buy some when I place my order…
I’m really enjoying this today. It is rich and very smooth! I think I prefer this one’s flavor over the Phatty Cake! It is somewhat earthy but very clean. This is a shu I could drink regularly, though my favorite is still the Special Dark!
I was quite pleased to win this 1oz sample in a Facebook contest, because I’m a huge fan of white tea and raspberry! I’m getting plenty of bold raspberry flavor from this, and some gentle white tea in the background. I’m not sure if I am detecting the white chocolate or not, but it may be contributing to the candy-like flavor. This is not the sort of thing I personally tend to enjoy hot, but I think this would be wonderful iced, or steeped in vodka for a tea-tini! Also I may try whipping up some tea syrup for tea sodas out of this one. Very nice offering from Della Terra if you are a fan of raspberries! Thanks again for the free sample!!
After enjoying some of Butiki’s flavored guayusa blends (Good morning sunshine is my favorite, but the Killer’s vanilla is good, too!) my husband asked me to get some straight guayusa so we could taste it by itself. It is quite nice! Not too strong a flavor, actually. Pretty mild and grassy, and sort of nutty. Very stimulating! It is very drinkable straight but I would still prefer to drink a flavored one because why not?
