936 Tasting Notes

sample provided for review thanks Awkward Soul for hooking me up!

This is one of the tastiest green oolongs I’ve had. Super floral with buttery sweetness and total “pudding mouth” effect! If you like them green and floral this ones for you!

Cheri

Sounds delicious. I need to make sure this one isn’t in the (M)UTTB…..

Stephanie

I have a little more. I will send it with your Manistee Moonrise :D

Single Origin Teas

haha glad to hear the samples are migrating around!

Single Origin Teas

We’d given a separate sample to Awkward Soul (and then a postage paid packaged envelope with another sample for Awkward Soul to pick someone to mail it to). So it wasn’t apart of the (M) UTTB.

Stephanie

Right, I was Awkward Souls chosen reviewer she shared with. I sent the rest to Cheri in the mail today so you will get 2 reviews in one! Thanks again Single Origin Teas, and if you ever want more reviews I’m always happy to taste :)

Single Origin Teas

Sure thing Stephanie! I’ve really enjoyed the travelling tea box so hopefully in the future we will keep doing them at least. :) The best way to try different teas is through samples.

Stephanie

Yeah, I’d love to get in on one of those traveling boxes in the future! I missed out this time :)

Cheri

Wow, Stephanie! Thanks so much!!!

drank Kotobuki by Lupicia

Thank you so much Tealizzy for this bonus sample!

I love fruity green oolongs, and apparently Lupicia is very good at them! I am drinking this hot this morning and lightly sweetened, but I bet it would be killer over ice too. Deeeeelicious and lightly floral.

This is my first tasting note from the mechanics waiting room, too, LOL. I have about an hour till my new tires will be installed so I’m chilling with a book and some nice tea :)

It took me a while to track this one down to make a tasting note on it. A favorite local restaurant/art gallery serves a few loose teas, and I always end up ordering this one if I visit in the evenings (post caffeine consumption time).

I like that it has a nice natural sweetness to it. I hate licorice but licorice root seems ok. I’ve had it in other herbals and enjoyed them :)

Cameron B.

I’m the opposite – I like licorice, but hate licorice root in tea. :P

Stephanie

You can have ALL the licorice :)

Cheri

Licorice is nasty

drank Milk Caramel by Lupicia

Thank you so much Tealizzy for this bonus swap sample!

I LOVE the idea of a caramel flavored houjicah. How brilliant! This one is strong on the caramel scent, but light on the caramel flavor. The houjicha has a lovely roasty taste though, so I am really enjoying this. YAY!!!!

Dustin

Bird Pick has a caramel houjicha too that I really like! It is a good combo. I’ll have to try Lupicia’s version some day.

Oh my gosh, YUM! Thank you Tealizzy for the sample!

This is really nice assam. It is sweet and malty like a Yunnan black. Medium bodied, and not TOO bold. Just right! I would definitely consider ordering this one in the future. Good stuff!

Tealizzy

Glad you enjoyed it! Yay for swaps! :)

OoooOoooooh! This tea tastes FANCY!

Very feminine and floral, but not overly perfumey in a bad way or anything like that. The coconut and vanilla and hint of citrus make me think of some kind of tropical cocktail. It is positively ethereal.

Stacy has a real way with these flavored whites. I can’t imagine anyone else pulling off something so complex and especially with the floral elements and all!

I have to say I would have liked more coconut, but that is just because I am a coconut junkie, and not because there is anything wrong with the tea :)

I do taste the coconut though!

Thanks so much Cameron B for the sample!

This is a very cute tea and tasty too! I like it very much but it isn’t blowing me away like it has some of the other reviewers, perhaps because I’ve had quite a few other equally tasty Yunnan blacks :)

Good stuff though! Definitely my kind of thing. Glad I got to try it.

Cameron B.

I haven’t had this one in a while, so who knows if I still love it. :P You’re probably right about it being similar to other golden bud Yunnans.

What? No one has reviewed this one yet?? OK, I’ll give it a shot :)

I just steeped up a cup. It smells SO plummy! I can taste plum and the brandy too, and some creamy something or other that my brain is trying to make cheesecake. I’m drinking this unsweetened so I’m sure sweetening it would boost the dessert-like factor, but I like it plenty well unsweetened!

I feel the base is perfectly matched here, and plum is such an unusual flavor to find in tea. Quite interesting and unique!

What a unique and delicious young sheng!

It reminds me of sencha, oddly enough. It is very sweet and sort of vegetal. It has a pleasant and delicate huigan, and is light on the cha qi scale. This might be good for people who are unsure about puerh but really love green tea!

I’m glad I got to try it :)

Cameron B.

Do tell… What exactly is huigan?

Stephanie

It’s that sort of aftertaste that some shengs leave in the back of your throat/tongue http://articles.bannacha.com/index.php?article23/describing-pu-erh-tea

apt

returning sweetness. I get huigan from good Taiwanese Oolongs, especially the slightly more processed ones.

Stephanie

Yeah, I get real nice huigan from Phoenix Dancong sometimes :D

apt

I just get sweetness from start to finish with Dancongs. Where have you gotten Dancongs from in the past?

Stephanie

The one I have right now is from Verdant tea. It is really good. I like a long steep

apt

I like the Dancong from Jing Tea Shop, especially Mi Lan. I also need to try Tea Habitat, that’s essentially all they do, Dancong.

Amariel

Did you steep the whole packet or part of it? I can’t find instructions on how much to use anywhere. I’m doing the whole thing with a shorter steep, so I hope I have not killed my sample.

Stephanie

Whole 10g packet for how many ounces of water?

Amariel

12 oz. I was wrong….very wrong. It was too much.

Stephanie

Ugh, bummer. You can sometimes salvage by diluting with water…

Amariel

Yeah, I did a little. It’s my fault…I don’t know what I was thinking.
