Sad sip down!

But I made a huge pitcher of this iced and very lightly sweetened, and it is FANTASTIC!

My first tea from Whispering Pines Thanks so much Boychik!!!

I can see why everyone is raving about this one. Strong cocoa and fruity notes make this one very appealing. Bold and malty and rich! Nom nom nom…perfect for breakfast, or in my case for an afternoon pick-me-up!

:D

Cheri

I really was surprised by this one. Everyone said great things about it, but it really, truly reminded me of the tasting notes from their website.

boychik

Yes ,its really good. i want your opinion on Golden Orchid.

Stephanie

Golden Orchid…same as this but with Vanilla beans, right? YUM

Cheri

I wish I’d gotten some of this, just to try it.

Whispering Pines Tea Company

Yay! Good first impressions :) hehe

Cheri

Edit…mine was supposed to say THAT not THIS as in I wanted to try Golden Orchid…. Geeze Louise! It’s been one of those days. Need to go home. Need stronger tea.

This is a lovely sweet and woody sheng. Lots of pleasant tongue tingling twang. Yiwu shengs seem to be pretty consistently tasty, huh?

Thanks a bunch, Terri

Happy Friday everyone!

boychik

Happy Friday to you too!

Terri HarpLady

I’m glad you like it! I’m gonna be drinking a Yiwu here in a little while too! :)

Stephanie

I’m just taking turns randomly grabbing teas out of the boxes I got from both of you :D FUN

I’ve had this kettle for almost exactly a year. I love it! The only complaint is that it doesn’t have any indicator sound to let you know it has arrived at your specified temperature. I love that it will hold it there for up to an hour though! I also really like that only metal touches the water, no plastic. Also the gooseneck makes it prettier than most electric kettles :)

kimquat

I’ve been thinking about getting this one as a second kettle for months! (:

looseTman

Thanks Stephanie!

Is the 1-Liter capacity large enough for pu-erh Gongfu sessions?

Stephanie

It is for me and my little 4oz gaiwan :) I can get like 8 or so steeps without refilling. But it heats water so quickly it is no big deal for me to refill it in between steeps, too.

looseTman

Would there be any advantage to the 1.7 liter model?

Cheri

I bought the 1.7L version because it was a little cheaper on Amazon. (I actually wound up being happier with the larger size.) I love it. I have learned that if I’m not paying attention I need to just make sure I hit the hold button when I’m heating up water so it’s not cooled off again before I get back to it. (Mine is at work, so this happens a lot.)

Stephanie

Ooohhhh, I should get one for work!

Cheri

It’s wonderful having one at work. I wish I’d done it sooner.

Skysamurai

that sounds awesome. whats the smallest amount it brews?

Stephanie

Hmm, I’m not sure Skysamurai. I usually just put in a little more than I think I need. I don’t usually measure!

Skysamurai

haha ok. So like enough for one/two cups? The water kettle I have right now has a minimum of 4 cups and I just don’t drink 4 cups in one sitting …ever haha. IF this one does a minimum less then that that would be awesome

Stephanie

I just emptied it out and measured exactly 2 cups and it performed just as usual. Next I’ll leave just 1 cup in there and test it on the resteep!

For those who may be considering a 1.7 L model, here’s some news from the World Tea Expo:

Another great tea sample from Terri HarpLady! :D I’ve got the best tea friends in the world ve ever had! But in a totally pleasant way. It tastes like camping somewhere exotic. Very woodsy and mysterious with a nice shengy twang :)

Stephanie

Weird…my note on this appears cut off midway through on my feed, but if I click edit it shows me all of what I typed. Weird glitch!

Garret

This Purple Leaf Raw has been the gateway into sheng pu’er countless times here in our shop! We’ve got so many customers turning into sheng tea heads because of the experience they have with this tea. It’s like a potato chip. You can’t have just one sip. You keep coming back for more :)

I’m so happy you are enjoying this one, my friend!

With gratitude,
Garret

Thank you so much boychik for all the tea samples!

I had to try this fresh tea first! Super smooth, sweet and vegetal, like a good fresh spring tea should be!! Very nice :)

boychik

Glad you like it. its unbeatable, taste like long jing but at fraction of the price.

Stephanie

Yeah, first flush dragonwell is way out of my price range! Good to know about the affordability of this :D

Cheri

Sounds nice.

TeaBrat

Oh, I almost bought this one the other day, as if I need more tea!

Thanks a bunch to Yang-chu and the rest of the Steepsters who went in on a big TeaUrchin order! And special thanks to mrmopar for hooking me up with the puerh group order thread :)

Trying my first sheng from the shared cakes! YAY! The leaves are slightly glossy and beautifully compressed. (All the leaves from the TeaUrchin order appear high quality to my admittedly untrained eyes.) This is an energetic, punchy young thing with pleasant astringency and slight bitterness. Slight floral undertones and just enough sweetness to balance it out. I REALLY dig this. Very happy I got to have some. I will eagerly drink the rest :D

Can’t wait to try the others!

boychik

sounds soo good! Enjoy!

mrmopar

I really liked this one also. Great example of good Yiwu tea.

Can’t remember who gave me a sample of this, but it was super refreshing and fruity cold brewed at lunch today!
