I got this as a sample in my recent order and I am plesantly surprised. I’d tried a Tie Guan Yin from another company and didn’t care for it, but this one is very nice. It has the most pronounced flower smell of any oolong I’ve tried yet,and that comes through in the brewed tea, too, along with an earthy flavor. I haven’t noticed the creamy taste that others have mentioned, but it’s definitely a smooth tea. Looks like I’ll have to give Tie Guan Yins another try!

I drank this before subbing yesterday, when I realized I was battling yet another stomach issue. I don’t like ginger, but I know it soothes upset tummies, and this has lemongrass and other herbals in it to help cut that. I am not the biggest fan, but it is drinkable for me. Whether or not it worked is anyone’s guess.

OMG This is one of two puerh’s I’ve tried and /liked/ let alone tolerate… It’s very smooth, mellow, velvety almost, with a dry finish. No fishy-fungusy-sawdust taste like other puerhs I’ve had. This one is certainly earthy, but very good. I had it with a dish of eggs on salad with shredded cheese and it “made” my breakfast. Kind of a metallic, watery aftertaste, if that makes sense, when the food is gone.

I’m having this again this morning and I agree with my earlier statements. It’s very dark and smooth, still velvety, still a dry finish. :)

How sad. This was included free with my Teavana order. And it’s the best of the bunch of six teas. But it still isn’t that great. First of all, the package said to steep the entire one ounce of tea in two cups! That is ridiculous. I filled up my infuser, so it was probably a teaspoon and a half. This is an AMAZING list of ingredients, but there still wasn’t much flavor (but again, I was supposed to use the entire one ounce package.) The color of the tea is a medium pink. The flavor is mostly an orange (probably from the two orange slices) but also a mild fruit punch taste. The flavor was okay, definitely more than the other white tea with fruit, Scarlet Cloud. There was really no white tea leaves at all. The rock sugar made the tea less tart. I appreciate the free sample of this okay tea, but it’s really disappointing when the free tea in an order is the best one.

VeryPisces

I found the directions ridiculous as well – I suspect they want you to use it up and then order it. It’s twice as expensive as the teas I generally order from them. I make the sample last as long as I can. I can get a couple of good infusions from the 1.5 – 2 teaspoons I use. It’s very sweet, due to the German rock sugar.

The cake itself fragrant. The fuzzy silvery buds are mostly intact, quite attractive, and can be easily picked off the cake. The tea has distinct notes of ripe Korean pear and honey. Later steeps reveal more interesting textures and subtle sweet/savory/nutty flavors. It’s very flowery and light with a velvety texture that may evolve with age.

The flavor is mild, similar to most white teas that I’ve tasted. As it cools a bit though, the peach flavor comes through very nicely with no over-steeped sensation. It smells great, and I like the blend of flavors very much, as I can imagine peach, pineapple, and floral notes. It just takes a while to get there; for the first few minutes it tastes like hot water.

drank Ti Kuan Yin by English Tea Leaves
615 tasting notes

First Steeping, 3 minutes
Really pale liquor. Light vegetal flavor, has a some mineralness going on. aftertaste kind of strawy tasting. Wishing I would have rinsed this. Curse laziness :(

Second Steeping, 3 minutes, 30 seconds
Golden liquor. Kind of a broccoli vegetalness. I find myself missing the floral notes that a lot of ti kuan yin seems to have by now. Still has a little metallic flavor coming in with the inital flavors, luckily it seems to get much much better as the tea cools. Aftertaste is far better, less grassy, more vegetable (spinach) Leaves are about half unfulrled now.

Third Steeping, 4 minutes
Best so far! Same color as second steeping, but the flavor is is starting to be less veggie and my flower notes are there! Not picking up on the mineral taste any more either, instead it’s becoming nice and buttery. Maybe getting a slight spice note, though. Aftertaste is kind of a soft floral with the spice (pepper? saffron? I can’t quite place it). Leaves are mostly unfurled. This cup disappeared way too fast.

Fourth Steeping, 5 minutes
And better yet! Really buttery. Definite unexpected pepper notes on an asparagus and light flowery flavor. Really good depth of character. Aftertaste is very asparagus. I should be able to get one more steep out of this tea.

Fifth Steeping, 7 minutes
Back to a pale yellow liquor. Nice light green asparagus flavor with flower notes. Aftertaste is floral. Pretty sure this is the end. Thank you for the hours of enjoyment, Mr. Tea. :)

I bought this expecting it to be at least average given the pricing. Teapigs usually has good teas, albeit bagged, but this matcha is terrible. I have had low grade matchas far cheaper than this one that were far superior. I felt a bit conned when I opened it, the colour was off and the grassy, nature fresh notes were just missing. I still prepared it in my chawan, and not soon after found myself with a displeased frown on my face, bitter and stale.

Pi day. A complex day deserves a complex sort of tea. Keemun it is! I brew up some of Teavivre’s Premium Hao Ya and see if the math checks.

The dry leaf is woodsy and earthy with a slight cocoa note, typical of many keemuns. The scent of the wet leaf is not all that much different than the dry, but slightly more gentle. The liquor smell loses some of that nice earthiness and is of a far more smoky quality.

As I sip, I’m not intrigued. I’m not mystified. I’m not overly interested. This keemun would best be described as mild-flavored, with smoke. On the initial swallow, this tea is not particularly strong. There is a somewhat malty taste on the onset with a hint of sweetness. But, the aftertaste brings a stronger wave of smokiness that makes you forget the opening. The cocoa notes are relatively weak in this one, which is a disappointment. You can faintly taste the cocoa lingering, but it never dazzles and pops. Failure to reach potential. The depth in this tea is lacking.

Overall, the math is a little off. This keemun is an average offering: neither fascinating, nor drab. Intricately deep and complex like pi, this tea is not.

I found this loose leaf tea in San Angelo at the DeCoty factory. If you’re from San Angelo, you know how amazing that is. The dry smell was very sweet and wonderful. The liquid was a nice dark red color. However, the tea was very tart, almost slightly sour. I couldn’t really drink it until I put lots of sugar in. I didn’t get any of the citrus flavors. The chamomile and rose hips seem to drown out all other flavors. It’s not bad, but I probably won’t be looking to try it again.

I drank this tea as a ‘Tea of the Day’ sample at David’s Tea. It was served iced.

The flavour that stood out the most was a peach-like flavour. This tea was very bitter.

drank Tiger Spice Chai by David Rio

Love, love, love, love, love this ‘tea’. I used to work at Borders and this is THE EXACT blend of the original borders chai ‘tea’. I use tea in quotes because I never make this with water (and neither did Borders). I make this tea just like I do with hot chocolate — heat up a mug of milk and add in this chai blend, stir and enjoy the guilty pleasure of it. I don’t drink it a lot because even using 2% milk, this is too fattening for me. The blend of this chai is utterly perfect: It is not too sweet and each of the amounts of the various spices (cinnamon, clove, cardamom and ginger) are perfectly in tune with each other. I will constantly have some of this in my cupboard. Love!

Much less muddy and more flavoursome with a shorter initial steep time. I did a 1min first steep, 2min second and 3min third—all three had a similar enjoyable flavour. Thanks Sil I appreciated getting to try this one!

drank Organic Peachy Green by Tazo
24 tasting notes

I hadn’t heard about Tazo tea before my adorable A.C gave me some samples for my trip back to Sweden. This is my first try of Peachy Green and my feelings are mixed.
For someone that doesn’t like strong tea or perhaps want something light to combine with milk and sugar, I think this one would be a quite good suggestion. But for someone who loves tea with lots of flavors and strong scents and tastes, this is nothing to recommend.
This one is light in its taste. I can’t smell so much scents when you smell it either. Just a small scent of peach and grass.
Perhaps this is a good ice tea or good to combine with ginger cookies? hmm. This one is difficult… I have tree samples left so I have a few more times to experiment. Let’s see if I can make this one work in some way.

The seller mentioned this was one of their best selling greens at the moment so I picked up about 1.5 oz. It is your typical fruity green, well flavored but not as smooth as I would like it. Tea Cozy sells a Fiji Green that is absolutely delicious, I would recommend that over Green Powerfruit.

VERY different from green TGY I’ve had before. I understand why people love TGY, and why some insist it be made in the traditional way (charcoal-roasted). Definitely fills a gap for me between green oolongs and black teas. Non-linear brewed. No bitterness. Mild astringency.

Dry Leaf: Charcoal, soil
Wet Leaf: Tobacco, soil, caramel
Taste: Honey, nuts, floral

I’m not going to rate this tasting because I accidentally used 8oz of water, poured out 3oz of it and had to top up to 6oz of water, so some of the flavour literally went down the drain.

Love the aroma––lovely floral mixed with honeyed sweetness. The liquor, though not as flavourful, tastes great as well.

Smells a lot like Earl Grey. I do not usually like Earl Grey teas, so this should be interesting…but it has cute clover shaped sprinkles. It is surprisingly good. I could imagine that it would be tasty as a latte too.
