Gotta drink it scolding :-)

The tea is scolding you for not drinking it or it’s scalding? ;) My guess is both.

Resteeped, by adding less water (20oz first time, this time I think a little less than half that?) so that it would be stronger, and put it in the fridge. It is still good, just not as strong. Curious to try the 2nd steep with hot water or ice.

Used 8g / 400ml in a glasspot.

The infusion is very pale yellow and smells very fresh.
The taste is mild and even. Refreshing and sweet with just a hint of astringency. A bit nutty and veggy?

Perfect in the evening. It compares to the best chinese whites BUT cant handle more then 2 infusions where the second infusion is kinda pale compared to the first cup.

The description on TeaSource calls it “herbaceous” and “smooth.” It’s mild and not grassy. My aunt calls it “watery” (and no this didn’t have more water or less tea than usual) but this is a very light tea and to me doesn’t have much personality—not one I’d order again given I prefer several other green teas from TeaSource.

drank Cacao Mint Black by Teavana
13 tasting notes

The name says it all – cacao and mint black tea. Really – it’s hard getting a tea like that wrong.

I’m a bit surprised there is no roiboos in the tea, it taste a bit like it. But I have looked at the ingredient list and looked at the tea itself and there is none.

So do I have a conclusion on this tea? So………. thinking not so hard, really

Not something I will purchase again, because there is probably a lot of other great chocolaty teas out there. In this tea, the mint taste is taking over the chocolate one. I will drink up the batch I bought, but it ends there.

For the first steeping, the color is a golden orangey color with a scent of ash or a campfire. This was my first ever smoky tea and it has a very strong taste of ash and smoke. The second steeping, there was a darker orange color and a stronger taste of smoke and ash. I wouldn’t drink it all the time, but maybe if I’m going to drink only once

drank Berry Hibiscus by Zhi Tea
10 tasting notes

I’m a sucker for hibiscus, and this hit the spot. I just had a giant glass of this, brewed hot and then iced down, and I drank it in… oh, five minutes? I almost wish I didn’t have a stockpile of Rishi’s version, which is slightly more tart, with less of a… floral taste. Both are good, but I can’t say which one is better without trying another glass (and a little slower next time).

Very prominent chocolate flavor in this tea, I don’t taste the “chili” part though. It just tastes like chocolate – which is a good flavor, yes, but not sure I love it in my chai. I wish there was more spice to this one. The sweetness of the chocolate would be enhanced with a spice.

Compared to a “regular” green tea like a jasmine green like I had most recently, the flavor here is stronger and more astringent. I only steeped it in 8oz of water for 3 minutes, but it was quite bitter. I don’t think even adding cream & sugar would help, and I don’t think a good green should need it. The aroma is more like that of a black tea, and the aftertaste reminds me of a cheap grocery store brand. To say it tastes like compost would be generous, because it’s not that complex.

This is my first gunpowder, so I don’t know if the same applies to other brands, but I won’t be buying this. Glad I got just a sample to start.

This tea is fantastic! I love the spice/mint combination… I cant get enough… :) I keep the tea bag in the whole time I’m drinking & sometimes even top up (its not as flavorsome the second (or sometimes third) time round but its still very enjoyable!!

Can anyone tell me how much (if any caffeine) it has tho?? I cant find it anywhere on the box??

AFAIK none, it’s a herbal blend rather than a tea leaf based tea :)

drank Redberry Tonic by DAVIDsTEA

Excellent herbal tea! It smells awesome before steeping. Kind of fruity, but I don’t pick out one particular berry scent. This was brewed for 5 minutes and turns a pretty red color.

It’s lightly sweet and pleasant. The fruity taste is great, and doesn’t need any sweetener.

I made this in the evening when friends were visiting because we wanted something without caffeine. Everyone loved it and kept going back for more. They made me promise to order some the next time I get tea from DAVIDs. This was a hit!!!

This tea is great. Since I’ve started drinking it, I am literally glowing. I save hundreds of dollars in electricity because I no longer require nightlights and I am GREAT at standing on cliffs and guiding ships safely home to harbor.

No but actually, it’s delicious. The claims are a little overblown, but I don’t even care because it just tastes sooo good. It’s okay iced, but warm it’s as comforting as an oatmeal cookie but elegant and graceful and floral and I am surprised by how much I enjoy it.

The smell of the dry leaf translates really well into the brewed tea. It’s balance of cinnamon, sweetness, and nature. I don’t really get apple – it’s our go to cinnamon partner fruit, but this is more generic. At the risk of sounding like a crazy person, you feel this tea more than you taste it. I can’t taste the nettles and rooibos, for example, but I can feel their presence in the flavor.

Aesthetically, it is a beautiful tea, and making it feels luxurious. There are roses in it! Look at you, drinking a tea with roses! Who are you, the queen?

Yes, yes you are. You owe yourself this tea.

drank Red Velvet Cake Mate by 52teas
1711 tasting notes

Red velvet cake freaks me out a little. It is the food coloring. There is just so much Red 40 or whatever it is. It has inspired me to someday make a cake for a party that has so much powdered beet in it that what goes in red comes out red on the other side. It would have to be a dark chocolate cake, so no one suspected anything from a bright magenta cake. /irrelevant tangent

The tea! I can taste the mate base. I haven’t had enough mate to really know how to describe the taste. I can taste a hint of chocolate and something else that I can’t quite identify. Is it a cakiness? Cream? Either way, this is a nice mate with a touch of smokiness.

drank Ginger Green by Teaopia

Following my tradition of procrastination I only have a couple teaspoons of this left and am debating between writing this and just letting this sit in my tea chest indefinitely. Unfortunately I really need the space for new tea – it has crossed my mind to just get a bigger tea chest, but then I’ll have to start considering when a chest can start being classified as a trunk, and how much weight can sit atop my fridge. So time to get off my butt (actually I’ll still be sitting on my butt so there’s a bit of a bright side) and share my opinion.

This tea is a great combination of green tea and ginger, and I’ve found that the taste carries through all the way to the third steeping.

On the negative side, I have messed up this tea more then once. Both by over steeping and using water that was too hot. Yes I know to be careful with water temp, and I’m OK with being careful, but I don’t want to have be uptight about it, a little leeway would be nice. And as I’ve mentioned before I do appreciate teas that will let me just throw the leaves into my travel tea thermos and leave them there, this one won’t cooperate with that.

Finally, the most pressing issue with my Teaopia teas: will I stock up on this one? The answer is no, and it’s not even an “I need to win the lottery” issue. I simply have found I get the same flavour from plain green tea with some fresh ginger thrown in.

drank White Pear by Teaopia
125 tasting notes

I’ve figured out that I don’t favour flavoured whites and greens. Having decided that…I actually enjoyed this one. I mostly consider it a white tea with rose petals and bits of apple I try to ignore.

I know the first time I tried it I was underwhelmed, but my latest attempt today, in a bid to clean out my tea collection so I can move on to bigger and better teas, was surprisingly undisappointing.

This tasting note is a disaster. I’ll look back on it and shake my head. The point is, I don’t dread finishing what I’ve got.

This used to be my staple tea when I was at work (Barnes & Noble carried it when I was employed there), and I would be so sad on days when we ran out. I love the subtle floral flavor of this tea, although the blend has a tendency to change time to time and it doesn’t always taste quite the same. While I love the stuff, I am very occasionally disappointed with it and would generally not drink anymore from the same tin.

One of my favorites from the sample pack. The raspberry is actually pretty good against the bergamot and black tea, and the body is nice, full and sweet. I personally would not drink it every day, but something to indulge in every once in a while. That’s why it’s great with the sampler pack: it adds diversity with the Egyptian Mint, Ambrosia Plum, and Italian Chamomile. Personally, though, I prefer the Coconut Chai Black. Otherwise really good for raspberry lovers.

drank Cocoa Canela (Organic) by DAVIDsTEA
162 tasting notes

I tried this tea as one of the teas of the day samples in a DAVIDsTEA store when it first came out, told myself I would buy some when my stock of tea decreased, and then neglected to do so. But it was on sale in the 250g for $14.50 sale, so woo hoo!

To me, this is right on par for a Mexican hot chocolate without the chilli peppers. Maybe I should try adding some chilli flakes sometime? That could be really good, actually…

But I digress. Definitely chocolatey, with the earthiness of the roasted mate, definite smell of cinnamon and a bit of a taste, too, and carob. Yum. My only (continued) disappointment is that the chocolate chips never fully melt for me. I think next time I brew a cup I’ll put the chocolate chips from the scoop directly in my mug then stir it around at the end. It will probably just end up making a gooey mess at the bottom of my cup. Ha.

ADD brain: this tea would also probably be smashing with either strawberry bits or mango chunks in it. Or pineapple. Or…

This tea leads with a light smokiness which leads way to smooth plums. It is fresh and crisp with a slight lingering sweetness. Stands up to many infusions.

I have bunch of this. Came from a kayaking buddhist monk in Bhutan, who chants while running hard rapids. I like it. It isn’t very interesting, it’s a very mixed grade tea and it might actually be way older than 2006. It brews the color of gas station coffee, has a true bitterness to it, and tastes like tea without the fluff (I like fluff sometimes, don’t get me wrong). It’s probably fair trade in the way that it comes from some small plantation run by a couple families. It’s probably organic because the families can’t really buy chemicals. It is tea without the adornments.
