Sipdown (288)

I went through my tea drawers the other day which called to my attention some older teas with just a serving or so left. This is one of those easy sipdowns that I figured was worth just finishing off. I have enjoyed this tea well enough but never loved it. It never stood out to me so I think it is time to say goodbye.

Eggnog Latte Sipdown (289)

This tea is an interesting spice cake flavor. I wish I waited a little longer to try it because I am getting that spice flavor cutting through the eggnog and I think if my tastebuds were 100% back to normal, I would really enjoy it. At the same time, there is something more than spice cutting through. Something sweet and fruity. I just can’t put my finger on it. I also think I can get some of the pine which is an interesting ingredient that works here.

I really like this one, unfortunately they didn’t bring it back this year. QQ

:( I had a small tin of it but the tin was literally 4 scoops.

drank #3 II Lazy Breakfast by Tea Revv

Lazy breakfast tea to go with my lazy breakfast of a roasted bagel and cream cheese. My plan was to make a fancy breakfast but that didn’t happen so this tea seems fitting.

Taste wise, this is briskand more floral than I typically like. Tea Revv recommends a splash of milk however i have a whole lot of eggnog that’s going bad December 4 so i put a splash of that instead. It was a weird choice because now this tastes like floral eggnog. Oops

Sounds delicious lol!

VariaTEA

Minty licorice with a cinnamon ginger aftertaste. This is warm but fresh but also just a whole lot of weird.

Ginger and turmeric are the stars here. It’s got a nice spiced flavor atop green tea. It is nice though not something I would reach for often. It is awesome to be able to taste again but I am saving rating until I’m back to 100% normal.

Anyways, instead of doing my studying for exams or preparing for my client meeting tomorrow, I decided to go through my steepster cupboard and make sure it is up to date. Turns out there were a bunch of teas I have finished or traded but left in my virtual cupboard. So, I went from 330something to 282 real fast when I actually took the time to go through it all.

However, one question I have is what to do with the teas in my swap box? Currently they are not in my online cupboard because I have no interest in drinking them. Some teas I have designated for certain people so I think it makes sense that those are no longer listed but for the teas that are just in my swap box with no intentional recipient, should I add them in to my virtual cupboard? What do others do?

Sil

i took them out of my cupboard when i used to swap and if a swamp came up, i’d either throw in a few random things i thought the person would like or let them know about the teas in my swap box..

VariaTEA

I like that plan. It keeps my cupboard number down under 300 lol.

Sil

well….sort of. your teas are here haha

drank Toasted Marshmallow by 52teas

Woke up this morning able to breathe through my nose. Things are looking up and my tastebuds are coming back. I steeped up this tea and noticed all the vanilla bean seeds dotted throughout my mug. This smelled 100% like vanilla marshmallow and I’m getting some of that but mostly I’m getting the roastiness of the hojicha.

I have been terrified to drink this since the pickles yesterday but it is caffeine free and it is hot and I can’t taste anything anyways so might as well drink up an old blend. This is slightly pickle-y but not as bad as yesterday. Thank goodness!

drank #5 Ice Cream Earl Grey by Tea Revv

This smelled really good. Taste I get bergamot and maltiness and then a void. Soon I’ll be back to normal…maybe.

I wasn’t planning on writing a review for this cup but then I drank it and couldn’t believe that it tasted like pickles. I would prefer to go back to tasteless if pickle is my other option.

My cupboard has grown exponentially since joining this site and I have a lot to share. Feel free to snoop through my cupboard and message me if anything interests you – I am always happy to swap!

For me, flavored teas are definitely my sweet spot. I will most often reach for black teas and rooibos or honeybush blends but I do keep some flavored whites and greens around for when the mood strikes. I have a few herbals/tisanes but most of the time I find myself disappointed by them as they often smell deliciously sweet and then end up tasting tart/sour. I have a little bit of an aversion to pu’erh and oolong teas. I am also wary of florals, earl greys, and chai teas. I do not like overpowering citrus flavors nor do I usually like hibiscus, licorice or chamomile. I love dessert teas – caramel, vanilla, toffee, cookie, cream, and other sweet flavors make me smile. Fruits like strawberry, peach, mango, and pineapples will often catch my attention as well.

I have also realized that although I really enjoy adding frothed milk to some of my teas, if I do not like the tea with zero additives (just in plain water without milk or sugar), I probably won’t drink it. The one exception is flavored matchas which I will happily drink in cold milk if I do not like it mixed with hot water. My theory is if the tea can’t stand on its own then it is not for me and I will more than likely try to swap it out for something else.

Tea Ratings Guide (as of December 10, 2017)
90-100 Teas I NEED on hand at all times
80-89 Teas I want to keep around for a cup every now and then
70-79 Teas I am glad I have around and can experiment with but probably don’t need more than what’s in my cupboard
60-69 Teas I would not turn down a cup of from a friend but that would probably be enough
50-59 Teas I can see why someone would enjoy but are not for me
Under 50 Teas I really did not like and most likely got dumped
