Sipdown (379)
Just opened and finished the packet of this I had from last year’s 52 Teas 12 Teas of Christmas. Figured it was about time. I brewed it up as an eggnog latte and drank it quickly but if I am being honest, it could have been any tea in the mug under the eggnog and milk because despite overleafing, it didn’t impart much flavor.
This is one of my favourites. Subtle and gentle. I have always had it black and straight up.
Guess that I should buzz through the remainders of last year’s 12 Teas as well.
It was in my Sipdown box given it was from before 2017 and it seemed like a good option for a latte. I was originally planning a chocolate milk latte but the eggnog was more accessible and I wonder if the flavor would have come out more
Yeah, on my to-do list in the coming days, create a sipdown box and hide it out of sight. I have found herding all my sipdown targets into one space a bit overwhelming, so what I’ve been doing is targeting two or three teas that I have in larger amounts and a handful or two of others that I have in sample sizes. When I get bored of the ones in larger amounts, I switch for another for a while. It’s all good in theory, but ooooh, shiny and new.

I made this as an eggnog latte and though it’s actually really good, I don’t think that’s because of the tea so much as the eggnog latte. It’s creamy and cinnamon-y with a generic chai flavor. I’m happy the stevia isn’t at play here but ultimately it seems like this could be any other chai tea.
The other day I commented to Sil that for some reason Black Friday Rachel (aka me from the not-so-distant past) apparently decided that now was the time to explore oolongs. They’ve never been a favorite so as I added oolong after oolong to my cupboard when our orders showed up I was a little confused. I blame the creamy oolong by Sloane that I had at high tea not too long before placing orders.
Thankfully I brewed this up and it is actually really nice. It’s a little bit floral and a little bit green but a whole lot of milky creaminess. It is making me less anxious about having a growing oolong selection in my stash.
Excellent, excellent, excellent. I thought it was just me who consistently drinks blacks and yet stocks up on oolongs I do adore oolongs, but I need one or two cups of a delicious oolong to start the oolong trend and sometimes, it is challenging to reach for that first one to make the switch from black teas.
Another thing is that good oolongs require such a commitment to experience all that they have to offer, steep after steep. I am not always prepared to make such a commitment. And it seems wasteful to begin and stop at only a steep or two.
When I was little and it was Chanukah, I used to get beautifully wrapped presents every night that my mom would spend hours wrapping after my siblings and I went to bed. Then when we got older our beautifully wrapped presents turned into “do you want your Chanukah money via check or direct deposit this year?”
However it seems my mom is feeling festive this year because she even left the house to go buy presents and along with presents she returned with gift wrap to the hilt. So for over an hour my mom and I have been wrapping presents and tying bows and feeling pretty festive which made this tea the perfect accompaniment during our gift wrapping (which still continues (we’re taking a break).
It’s vegetal from the base but I find that blends with the slightly spiced creaminess of this tea. Tbh it almost reminds me of the Butiki eggnog tea which I tried forever ago and was aged a little so my interpretation might be off but whether it’s subconscious because of the name or the actual flavor, that’s what I am getting and for that I am happy.
Beautiful. Somehow I missed this one.
What a lovely holiday memory! Glad that your mom has decided to resurrect the gift and gift wrap tradition. Happy Hanukah to you and yours, VariaTEA!
First of all, I love this company’s packaging. It’s like you’re conversing with the tea given it greets you with a fun “HELLO!” And then that Hello is followed by the reveal of some pretty good tea. Honestly, I was shocked at how much mango flavor this actually had.
