drank Soylent Green by A Quarter to Tea
6444 tasting notes

This is what I drank, iced, while actually trying one of those tasty videos with my family. In particular, this tasty video: https://www.buzzfeed.com/hannahwilliams/french-roll-ups-four-ways

I get what Sil was saying about some taste being off here. I’m hoping it’s not people and I’m thinking it might be the cucumber mixed with the pear and sugar flavoring. Not sure but whatever it is, I don’t love it.

Autistic Goblin

It’s from people that drink too much green tea! LOL

Morning latte. Well afternoon latte I guess. It was good. Eggy and bready and just the right amount of cinnamon.

Sil stopped by today bringing with her teas from herself and Evol Ving Ness. A box full of goodies. As I added them to my cupboard (something I am not quite done yet as a few seem to not be listed on steepster) I noticed there were teas that sounded really interesting, teas that sounded a little scary (sneaky pu’erh), and some old favorites that I would get a chance to revisit.

This falls into the latter category. It is a tea I originally tried when living in Montreal. My roommate at the time got me Camellia Sinensis blends as a channukah present and this was the one we tried first.

It tastes exactly as I remember, which means it is delicious. It’s light but so flavorful. The strawberry is standing out in this cup and has a candy-like sweetness thanks to the pineapple (I am assuming). It is really lovely and has such a well rounded fruit flavor. I honestly didn’t realize I missed this until trying it again. Alas, every time I look at Camellia Sinensis’ site, I am saddened by the lack of Des Roses et Des Bonbons and that dissaudes me from placing an order.

Nonetheless, thank you Evol Ving Ness for the chance to revisit this one. I have enough leaf for another cup and I certainly will be savoring it.

Sil

yay!

Evol Ving Ness

Delighted that this one is bringing you tea JOY! Yay!

Ftr, people, the puerh scary things are not from me :)
I may be guilty of the scary chai teas though. Ahem.

So pleased that you’ve gotten the teas and the steeping can commence. Thank you, Sil!

Evol Ving Ness

And yeah, it happens that I include teas in swaps that I am opening for the first time. At least, swapping reminds me that I need to get busy.

Evol Ving Ness

I am so looking forward to your reviews!

drank Butterbeer by The Forest Witch

Sororitea Sisters TTB

I pulled this out of the SSTTB and I was going to write a review for the blog but after smelling the strong rooibos flavor of both the dry and steeped leaf and seeing the murkiness of the brew, I had a feeling I was not going to be a fan of this tea and felt bad hating a tea from an Etsy shop on the blog. I have done it before but tonight I guess I just didn’t feel like it. Instead I would hate on it (or love it) here.

So, in one hand I have a glass of red wine sangria and in the other this tea. This weird tea that tastes like lotion. Like lotion and spice. The sangria is nice at least but I am definitely not a fan of the tea. Didn’t have high hopes going in so maybe it’s like a self-fulfilling prophecy where I expected this to be bad so it was. Also could just be a bad tea.

Roswell Strange

I drank this one tonight too – I don’t LOVE it, but I definitely like it a lot more when I stop thinking of it as a “Butterbeer” flavour and more of a Chai type of thing. Have you had a chance to try any other teas from The Forest Witch? I liked her Cancer blend a fair bit, but I REALLY enjoy the Slytherin one.

VariaTEA

I honestly wasn’t even looking for butterbeer. I just wanted something other than lotion. Tbh I looked at the envelope it was in and it was ripped and not properly stored so I’m wondering if maybe the coconut went rancid or something went off because this was bad.

Also I think this is the only one I have tried from her which may be part of the reason I felt bad hating this tea on the blog.

Also yay for tea twins drinking the same thing! It’s been a while since we did that :P

fluffduck

After checking out your profile and stalking through you tea cupboard I’d be interested in doing a little tea swap! I know this isn’t an ideal place to discuss but unfortunately I can’t send you a PM… I think maybe steepster only lets you PM people who follow you?

In any case, I have a laoshan black and an autumnal darjeeling I’m particularly interested in doing a sampler swap to compare to the ones you’ve got. I’ve got quite a few others in my cupboard and some that aren’t marked as stocked yet, too. Feel free to PM me if you’re interested :D

I think it’s the rosemary combined with lemon that is throwing me off here. Something about it is just coming off a bit like a cleaner. I will probably try this again and pay more attention because this cup cooled before I got to it and the result was not for me.

Sil

i need to get my teas lol house bound atm with stupid laundry and cleaning, but maybe tonight

drank Honeybee by A Quarter to Tea
6444 tasting notes

This tastes like a sweet sweet honey tea that is definitely an A Quarter to Tea tea. I definitely get both honey and vanilla and yes its on the sweeter side but the addition of chili makes for a nice foil to the more prominent flavors.

Now speaking of sweet things that have a bit of something else happening, I am about to go on a bit of a rant…prepare.

Alright so I have a coworker, (we’ll call her Jane) who is very friendly and a whole lotta fun and I do like her a lot however something happened at work today and I must say I am a bit offended/put off. This coworker is fairly new to the company, just a few months, and a couple of months ago we decided to get a gift together for a mutual friend. However, despite agreeing to the amount we were spending, Jane waited until AFTER I fronted all the money for the gift to tell me she didn’t have the $30 to reimburse me and would pay me at the next pay period which was about a week later. I said that was fine except when the pay period came around she again didn’t have the money and told me she’d get me the money later. Later came after two more pay periods passed. On that day, she reimbursed not only me but two other coworkers she’d borrowed $30+ dollars from.

Anyways, this Wednesday rolled around and Jane and I decided to go for lunch. She told me about Whopper Wednesdays at Burger King where you could get 2 whopper combos for $10. Jane insisted she pay because we had to buy the food together to get the deal. I told her I don’t really ever carry cash so I could pay or etransfer her the money. Nevertheless, she paid and the bill came to $12 total for the two of us together. We got back to our office and I said that I had a $20 so I could give that to her and she’d just need to give me change or I could etransfer her the money. She told me not to worry and just to get her the $6 when I had it.

Today Jane comes to me and asks me for the $10 I owed her. A reminder, our meals together cost $12 so I was sort of taken aback that two days later she was now requesting more money than I actually owed her. However, I know she is hard up for cash so I wasn’t about to fight for $4. I told her I still only had the $20 and asked if she had change. She took the $20 and told me she’d bring me the $10 after lunch. Well, after lunch rolled around and she hands me $5 and says “my lunch was actually $15 so I guess I owe you $5”.

The thing is I could care less about the money because I have never been one to hound anyone for cash nor am I someone who thinks twice over buying someone a meal or putting my hand in my pocket. And I understand that there are those who need money more than others but I am feeling taken advantage of in light of her (1) taking over a month to return the money I put out for her, then (2) asking I give her back money she put out after just 2 days, and such a small amount at that and (3) asking for more money back than I owed her and then (4) when I give her more money than she asked for, she proceeded to spend more of it than she was entitled to without even asking me. I feel so dumb being this bothered by the situation because its such a small amount but I was really frustrated by this and just felt taken advantage of. Not to mention Jane cornered another coworker into loaning her $200 and has yet to return that money but still continues to go out and eat and buy clothes and jewelry for herself.

Am I being overly sensitive or is this a sort of messed up situation?

Roswell Strange

Definitely a messed up situation, and I think it’s only natural to be pissed off. It doesn’t matter if the money itself isn’t important, that’s a ridiculous way to behave (in particular her spending the extra $5 on her lunch!!!). It’s even worse when it’s a coworker/in a professional setting. I don’t know that I can offer any meaningful advice, but the rant is DEFINITELY not unjustified.

VariaTEA

I thought that too. Like yes we are friends but work friends and it’s weird to so quickly come in and start asking for money or just helping yourself to money.

Indigobloom

It speaks to integrity. She has shown you that you can’t trust her. I’d be put off as well. Sucky situation :(

Fjellrev

Don’t you EVER feel like you are being sensitive or overreacting. That is absolutely disgusting and it doesn’t matter rather it’s a $1 or $1000, it’s the principle of it, and her actions are unacceptable. I have had people like that in my life in the past, in a workplace environment too (one of them being a manager and thus would bully me into paying for her things or else make me suffer by cutting hours, for example) and the best is to just avoid any situations with money involved, period. They will do anything they can to try to screw you over. I don’t understand how people like this can sleep at night. It’s infuriating. I really hope you can find a way to get around this without it affecting your job.

Maddy Barone

Jane sounds like a careless person at best, and an unethical jerk taking advantage of others at worst. I lean toward the unethical jerk. If this had happened once, I might be willing to write it down to carelessness. But this is clearly a way of life for her. Steer clear of any situations with her involving money. She has proven she can’t be trusted. Sorry this happened to you.

VariaTEA

Thanks guys. I honestly felt silly being mad so I’m glad I’m not the only one who thinks this whole situation is messed up. Obviously I learned my lesson and won’t be lending her any money nor allowing we to pay for anything for me in the future. It’s not worth it.

This is a pretty tasty tea. It tastes like 7D brand dried mangos when cold brewed and I love that. Yum!

This made for a pretty subpar smoothie if I am being honest. It is strawberry and…nothing. That’s it, just strawberry. And in light of the milk and all the frozen bits lingering at the bottom of the bag it is a muted strawberry at best.

drank Red, White and Blue by 52teas

Sipdown (304)

I got this sample from Kittenna probably around a year ago and I am finally getting to it today. If I am being honest, my reasoning behind this sipdown is kinda silly but yesterday I had 3 sipdowns and wrote 3 Sororitea Sisters tea reviews and I decided to track that in my bullet journal but actually wrote down the information for today instead of yesterday. So rather than crossing that out, I decided to just write 3 reviews and drink 3 sipdowns today. This was an easy one to hit that number.

It is also a nice tasting tea which makes for a smooth sipdown. I’m getting a lot of blueberry despite their being no actual blueberries in the dry leaf in my filter and lots of raspberries. There is a touch of raspberry among the blueberry and maybe a slight coconut creaminess but if I had to blindly guess, I would say this was a blueberry tea through and through. Thank you for the share Kittenna!

My cupboard has grown exponentially since joining this site and I have a lot to share. Feel free to snoop through my cupboard and message me if anything interests you – I am always happy to swap!

For me, flavored teas are definitely my sweet spot. I will most often reach for black teas and rooibos or honeybush blends but I do keep some flavored whites and greens around for when the mood strikes. I have a few herbals/tisanes but most of the time I find myself disappointed by them as they often smell deliciously sweet and then end up tasting tart/sour. I have a little bit of an aversion to pu’erh and oolong teas. I am also wary of florals, earl greys, and chai teas. I do not like overpowering citrus flavors nor do I usually like hibiscus, licorice or chamomile. I love dessert teas – caramel, vanilla, toffee, cookie, cream, and other sweet flavors make me smile. Fruits like strawberry, peach, mango, and pineapples will often catch my attention as well.

I have also realized that although I really enjoy adding frothed milk to some of my teas, if I do not like the tea with zero additives (just in plain water without milk or sugar), I probably won’t drink it. The one exception is flavored matchas which I will happily drink in cold milk if I do not like it mixed with hot water. My theory is if the tea can’t stand on its own then it is not for me and I will more than likely try to swap it out for something else.

Tea Ratings Guide (as of December 10, 2017)
90-100 Teas I NEED on hand at all times
80-89 Teas I want to keep around for a cup every now and then
70-79 Teas I am glad I have around and can experiment with but probably don’t need more than what’s in my cupboard
60-69 Teas I would not turn down a cup of from a friend but that would probably be enough
50-59 Teas I can see why someone would enjoy but are not for me
Under 50 Teas I really did not like and most likely got dumped
