338 Tasting Notes
I think I liked this one more than I like a lot of senchas (Sencha Ashikubo not withstanding). It was very drinkable, not too bitter… I’m still getting a taste for straight greens, but this one is definitely under consideration to be an addition to my collection in that sense.
Picked up 10g of this last night (I wanted to try it when I was at the mall, but there was no way I was drinking mate at 9:30pm, haha) and figured I’d give it a go this morning. Definitely nice and citrus-y, which I like, with just a touch of ginger for a bit of added kick. I’m hoping the caffeine mix will kick in later, but as it stands right now, I like this one. I think I just need to lower the water temperature a little, because I’m practically burning my tongue.
I realised I had 40g of this in my stash, so I decided to use some of it to make a latte – you can’t get more classic than something called ‘pure chai’, right?
Alas, maybe you can, because this was just okay. I mean, it was a tasty drink (and I cut down on the amount of milk I added, because the last time I made a latte on my own it was way too milky), but I wanted something a little more above average. The spice is there (very heavy on the cinnamon), but it smells better than it itastes, I have to say. I have a couple other chai blends, so maybe I’ll make lattes with those as well and see what the best one actually is.
Had a cup of this to go today from my local DT and… oh my word. I said I was looking for a tea with a straight up, strong orange flavour? THIS IS IT. I LOVE IT. The first couple of sips were okay, but by the time it had steeped for a while, the flavour turned out amazing. I don’t even think I can taste the hibiscus in this one, as it is a little on the sweet side. A good flavour profile to balance out the pu’reh base and I can’t wait to to get some for my stash!
I thought I had already reviewed this one – oh well! I’m trying to drink more straight greens in my semi-serious New Year’s resolution to drink green tea every day, and I realised I had some of this that came with one of my Christmas presents. I don’t mind this (gasp, shock), but I liked the Sencha Ashikubo far better. Naturally, because that one is so much more expensive, LOL. My thing with greens is getting the water temperature decent, and I’m not sure I did with this one. Sigh. Maybe next time.
I love Earl Greys, so I was all YAY when I received this as a sample. It’s pretty good, but perhaps a bit too vanilla-tasting for my liking. I like to be able to taste my bergamot, and I’m not really getting any of that here. That said, it’s still quite drinkable as a Monday morning beverage.
Drinking this today brought me back to my desert travels over the past couple of years… Sigh, I miss it so much! This is exactly what I hoped DT would come up with – a tea with an entirely different flavour profile than the offerings they currently have (as I’m pretty sure there’s nothing with prickly pear already?). My favourite out of the three new teas, for sure, and I’m happy that it’s a green, as I need to start drinking that more.
Much of a lemongrass flavour? Im still not over that cup of Cold Zing I had right before Christmas lol. I bought the Sunshine collection from DT this afternoon…by the sounds of the weather forecast this week I’m going to need some sunshine!
I only had a sample of this, so I may change my rating when I have a larger cup. To me, this tastes a lot like Pink Flamingo (and it shares a lot of the same ingredients, so not really a surprise). Which is fine in one sense, because I like Pink Flamingo, but why feel the need to make something new that’s basically the exact same thing? I wish the orange was the main flavour here – DT has done several straight up lemon blends, and I’d love to see a strong orange one. Hopefully in the spring or summer collection.
This one smells absolutely amazing, which was what motivated me to try this one first from the new collection. It doesn’t taste as good as it smells, which is a shame, but I still liked it – I am a sucker for anything lime-flavoured. This one tasted different enough from anything I’ve had by DT so I will definitely be getting some more of this eventually.
