New Tasting Notes
From the second the tea was poured I could smell a very strong, sweet vanilla aroma. Apart from that I could not smell much else. Taste-wise, it wasn’t bitter but it was rather tasteless and delicately sweet. I have the suspicion that it was diluted a tad too much. No tea, however ‘delicate’, should be this bland. The vanilla was definitely there though, judging from the scent. There was also a sourish aftertaste, probably due to the natural flavor of the rooibos.
This seemed to be a red tea, instead of the usual black. There was the same sourish aftertaste that I had gotten from a rooibos tea once. Also in the aftertaste was a herb-ish taste from the bergamot. The bergamot aroma and flavor were not as strong as TWG’s Earl Grey Gentleman Tea. I love bergamot, so this mildness disappointed me. I couldn’t detect much citrus flavor; I was more preoccupied with the floral notes of the cornflowers. Unlike ‘regular’ Earl Grey, I don’t think this tea could stand up to the addition of milk.
Wowwwww. Chocolate. The only problem here is that the mouthfeel isn’t thick enough! This is definitely the most chocolatey tea I’ve had, though. Unfortunately, I think I’m all tea-d out tonight, so it’s not sitting well in my stomach. Consequence of it being, oh, 4am…
Oh, gotta compare this to DavidsTea’s Chocolate Cake. Bonus here is the lack of gross sprinkles, however!
ETA: This is undeniably better than Chocolate Cake in one major aspect: when cooled, it does not become a disgusting, grungy mess of luckiness and sprinkle bits. Flavourwise it may also be superior, but the lack of ick is a major, major plus.
ETA again: Second infusion isn’t bad. It smells delicious, but something’s a bit off about the flavour. It could certainly be that it sat for a day or two before the second infusion, so I’ll have to be a bit quicker with it next time! After this, however, the leaves didn’t even smell chocolatey anymore, so I threw them out.
Preparation
This tisane is for maple lovers only! Seriously! If you don’t like maple, don’t even bother. Because this is – essentially – a thinned maple syrup.
YUM!
This is a yummy, warm, maple-y delicious rich cup. It is sweet and I’m loving every sip. But really, unless you’re mad about maple, you really shouldn’t bother with it, because it is almost like pure maple syrup, only thinner.
ETA: I forgot to mention when I was writing this, because I was so caught up in all its maple-y goodness … don’t forget to enter in the Della Terra Teas contest that’s going on at our blog right now: http://sororiteasisters.com/2012/11/23/the-season-of-giveaways-take-2/ But you better hurry … time’s running out!
Ugh, so effing comforting. Broke into my second hoarded stash bag today to have some of this this evening. So happy to learn that uptown has some of this left. I must refill…REFILL!!
Read past notes, but the short short version…AWESOME!!! Still an all time fave.
Yum! Got some of this from Azzrian a while back, and felt like something different tonight in addition to everything else. Good choice self, cuz this is tasty! Not something I’d have too often, because I’m sure it’s loaded with calories, but it’s pretty tasty. Pretty much an instant sweet tea latte made with a sort of creamer instead of milk. One of the only downsides is that this makes a pretty tiny cup of tea, as one packet is only good for something like 150mL of hot water. Either way, thanks for letting me try some of this out, Azzrian! I should take the other two packets to work, as I have no sugar there to sweeten things the odd time I crave it.
