New Tasting Notes
Goodness this is good! I love yellow tea! Thank you LiberTEAS for sending me some!
I am going to have to add this to my TO GET list as well!
A perfect example of yellow tea for those who may want to venture into yellows or anyone who is already a fan!
Sweet, buttery but not too buttery, creamy, slightly vegetal but not like a green, even a slight candy like flavor when cooled.

Now THAT’S what I’m talking about! This is what a CHOCOLATE tea should taste like. This is even more chocolate-y than my Chocolate Rose Romance was! Yes… I’m saying that THIS is better than my Chocolate Rose Romance. What this one lacks in complexity (my Chocolate Rose Romance was more complex … more layers of flavor) it more than makes up for with MORE chocolate. Della Terra Teas is after my heart here. If only I could get them to change their name. (Sorry… my step mom’s name was Della and I hated that woman, so when I see the name of the company, I just sort of go red, full of rage hatred for a moment).
BUT… I was able to overlook the name to place an order for the fall sampler pack which included this tea and I’m very glad I did. First of all, I’m VERY pleased with the service. I received my order promptly, I got a free sample of my choosing and it was packaged nicely.
This tea has earned a spot in my permanent collection. I will be buying it again as soon as funds allow for it.
This sounds awesome as does the tea you used to make. I always wish when you mention your former blends i was into tea when you were making them!
Me too, I am sad that I never got to try any LiberTEAS blends. Maybe we can convince her to one day make a Steepster private reserve for us… :D
I’m currently experimenting a bit with this since I need to empty the tin since it’s rather old(the tea, not the tin).
<Now seems like a good time to retrieve and store the english description, to add when my account is old enough:
The deep rich aroma of Madagascar vanilla makes for a velvety smooth, naturally sweetened tea that is excellent hot or iced.
Ingredients: Black tea from China, Sri Lanka and India, vanilla bean pieces and flavor.
Preparation: One heaping teaspoon per 8oz cup of filtered, boiling water. Allow to brew 2 minutes.>
I purchased this two weeks ago at The Whistling Kettle’s tea tasting event. I liked it so much I took home a sample (taking home more than that would have broken the bank). I still noticed the heavy earthy tones of this tea when trying it again today. I also got more of the seaweed taste again. Which most of my table companions didn’t care for. But to me that’s a pu-erh…earthy! This time around I did add a little half and half plus some vanilla sugar. Just to give it a little something else. And you know what? It didn’t do a thing to this pu-erh!
On a side note the owner of The Whistling Kettle said he was playing around with this one and some bourbon in their testing room. I’m hoping he’ll share with his customers whatever it is he comes up with!
The flavor is citrusy, slightly artificial. Maybe an OK flavor for an ice tea. However, there is some ingredient in here that consistently gives me a headache. Sometimes citrus flavors can do that to me, but not usually the natural ones. Mostly this is cheap nonsense with very little resemblance to real tea.
Trying another gongfu session this afternoon. This is 6g (exact measurement) of tea for my 6oz pot. This tea was a sample provided by Fong Mong for review (that I’ve been bad about getting around to tasting), so thanks!
Perhaps it is just the power of suggestion from the name but the dry leaf on this tea does smell fruity to me. This time I steeped this oolong at slightly under the boil, for 45 seconds as recommended by Fong Mong, after a rinse. The tea smells very floral and a bit fruity, with a bit of vegetables underneath, but not leafy vegetables like I often get with oolongs. More cooked zucchini or something. The flavor is mild at first sip but it quickly blossoms in the mouth, sweet and candy-ish. Still with a bit of those vegetables, as if it was candied zucchini (which I saw some chefs do on Chopped recently, so maybe that’s where I’m getting the idea from). I like it, it’s pretty different from most other oolongs I’ve tried.
Second steep is, once again for me, kind of lackluster. I steeped it an additional 15 seconds as instructed by Fong Mong, but it has now lost much of the sweetness and more of those leafy vegetal notes are coming out. I don’t blame the tea because, as I’ve said, this is a problem that has plagued me for a while. I tried to do an extra long steep, almost western style, but it’s always as if I steep out all the good flavors early on.
I am rating this one based on the first steep, which was very tasty and unique.
Preparation
My daughter put me on to this tea company and its definitely one of my favorite companies to order tea from! They have great specials with free tea & free shipping and SO many great teas to choose from! The chocolate tea is the best chocolate tea I have tried…. And I have tried many!!!
The whole kitchen smells yummy when this is steeping!!!! I highly recommend this tea :)
Great tea, very flavorful for a bag tea. I love cardamom, and wanted to try Pu-erh, so I tried this. I was so happy! It gave me lots of energy (no doubt due to the caffeine content) but didn’t make me feel jittery, just happy. Brought color to my cheeks, meaning it was probably doing my circulation good. A great fall or winter tea.
I made some white monkey today and used my perfect tea maker from Teavana. It had a earthy smell during steeping, and was a fairly run-of-the-mill, mellow green tea with slightly earthy undertones until the finish which was intriguing. After every sip there was this unique flavor sensation that I’ve never come across before.
The best way I can describe it was the smell of water. It was a cool, bright brassy note after every sip that stayed on he tongue for just about a second, but it was consistent and definitely there. It was almost metalic in its brightness, but not heavy or cloying like metals. A really interesting flavor to say the least. I’ll be buying more of this one.
Preparation
I really wanted to like this tea. It was the first white tea I ever tried. I’m not sure I like white tea at all. And I don’t think the blend of white tea and bergamot really works. It’s kind of bitter on bitter. The smell of the tea was good, but it didn’t smell like something edible, more like a quality perfume. It’s all natural, so that’s not the issue. Overall, a very perfumy, overly feminine flavor.
And the clue that maybe white tea isn’t for me is that I kept over-steeping it to try to get some flavor out, which only makes it bitter. If you love white tea you may love this, I don’t know.
Oh my, this is good. I opened this up this early afternoon and sipped it while watching Felix Baumgartner jump from the stratosphere. That was very cool.
The tea doesn’t have the spicyness I normally associate with chai, but it’s a very good, very enjoyable tea. It’s a very gentle chai I suppose.
Frothed a small amount of stevia and half and half, then added the chai after steeping it in my ingenuiTea.
I am defnitely getting some maltiness – it’s more chocolatey than the chocolate chai as I did it yesterday in the gaiwan.
Preparation
Top-notch Chai. I recommend finding some molasses sugar or equally dark type of sugar and blending with it. Then I add a little pinch of vanilla-sugar. For a rich version, try half-and-half. It also works with soy. I’m looking into buying an aerolatte to make chai lattes.
Note: you can’t cheat and steep this like normal tea. The spices won’t come out and you’ll be extremely disappointed.
Preparation
I love this tea! Cacao Mint Black tea has to be one of my most favorite teas of all time! I love the refreshing, cool taste of the mint. It honestly feels like you are drinking mint hot chocolate! This tea is excellent if you are trying to reduce your sugar intake or just sweets. I’ve already bought this tea twice so that’s actually very good because I only buy tea twice or more if I really love the tea. Only brew this tea for three minutes like it states or else the tea will be too bitter! Get yourself to Teavana and get it! :)
Yay… I’m glad you are loving Yellows!
Oh I DO! I was lucky to be introduced to yellow tea the first time I ever purchase loose leaf! WOO HOOO its good stuff! :) Thank you for this!
You’re very welcome. :)
