Monthly TTB Club.

Wow this has a surprisingly low score. I actually quite liked it. It has a delicate strawberry flavor, with just a hint of oolong to it. Most of the berry teas I drink are bold, hibiscus-based blends, so this is a nice change of pace.

This is good! I like it as much if not more than the jasmine greens I’ve had.

I was curious about this because I like creamy teas, but at the same time I wasn’t sure that an Eggnog flavored tea would work well on a green rooibos base. This also comes presweetened, which I don’t always appreciate. As it turns out, my concerns were well-founded. This is sweeter than I prefer, not all that cream, and tastes weird and artificial with the green rooibos base. I am not a fan.

This is a pleasant enough tea. Flavor wise it seems to straddle the line between light and dark oolongs, which is interesting. It has the smooth almost nutty flavor of some dark oolongs and a light vegetal note. I find myself wishing the flavor were a little bolder, though.

Montly TTB.

This is my first tea by Whispering Pines, and unfortunately it doesn’t live up to the hype for me. I’m not sure if it’s the vanilla or the base itself that I’m objecting to, but I didn’t love this. The base is a light, smooth black with cocoa notes, but they don’t taste quite right to me. They taste artificial, which is odd since this doesn’t contain artificial flavoring at all. Well, it was nice to try anyway. I’ve been really curious about Whispering Pines teas, but they’re very expensive. At least I won’t waste money on a tea I don’t care for.

Butiki Educational TTB. Taiwanese Shan Lin Xi.

Another black tea that tastes like sweet potatoes. These are really good! I’ll have to find a good place to buy tea like this.

Butiki Educational TTB. Bihar Black.

This is an Indian tea. When someone says “black tea” to me, this is the flavor I think of.

Butiki Educational TTB. Taiwanese Golden Dragon.

This is the first tea I’ve had that tastes like sweet potatoes. This definitely does. It’s really tasty. I may keep this. I’ve pulled out a few black teas that I definitely want to try and several more that I’ll try if I have the time, but I plan to send the box along by Monday or Tuesday.

Butiki Educational TTB. 1993 Aged Oolong.

I was curious about this one as I’ve never had an aged oolong before. It tasted somewhat like toast in a way that reminded me of barley tea, but I think I actually prefer the barley. On to the black teas!

Butiki Educational TTB. Chinese Roasted Oolong.

Mmm. this is more like it! Smooth, roasted nutiness. This is my kind of Oolong. I was hoping for a wider variety of dark oolongs. I’ve liked most of the ones I’ve tried, and I know I’ve had some in Asian restaurants that I’ve liked and have yet to identify.
