15695 Tasting Notes
Colour me surprised and delighted because this taste eerily accurate to a soft and doughy sugar cookie to me! Like, one of the closest sugar cookie tasting teas I’ve had in a long, long time. Y’know the little circular sugar cookies you get at the grocery store that almost become a paste in your mouth? With the bright layer of super fun colored icing? Yeah, exactly that!
Another more simple and toned down blend because I guess that’s just where I’ve been at in terms of the cravings I’m having while working from home lately. I love the pecan note of this blend and the subtle cinnamon and brown sugar notes are a welcome compliment to it. However, the star is really the base! Pu’erh is such a nice choice with these milder decadent tones.
Cold Brew Sipdown (1602)!
Y’know, with this type of Doctor Who inspired name it really feels like a missed opportunity to have not included rose in the blend. Even if it was just petals.
I’m kind of glad this is a sipdown. I was hesitant at first because how awesome of a fandom pick would this have been for future Geek Steep episodes!? However, sipping on it now… Yeah, not a fan. It’s busy. I can tell there’s jasmine and some type of citrus flavouring as well, but mostly it has this dominating overarching flavour of children’s chewable Flintstones vitamins. Definitely not the most pleasant flavour to be drinking longterm.
So… welp.
I think I’ve been putting off writing this tasting note for far too long. Mostly I’ve been kind of dreading it because I feel like I don’t have anything to add to the flavour comparison because to me it really just tasted like hops with the more sweet leaning kombucha vinger taste that is common for all of Gutsy’s assortment. It was light and refreshing and I enjoyed it (though not as much as some of their others) but I just don’t have much experience describing the nuances of hops…
So this is the note.
I’m not sure why but when I got up this morning and was picking out teas to take into the office with me, I looked at this one off on a shelf and it just spoke to me. I ended up steeping it hot, which is actually something I really never do with this tisane – it’s usually reserved for iced teas/cold brews and fun recipes. I tossed three of the large flowers into a mug and just steeped them like that. It steeped slowly but evolved into this gorgeous and very clear/crisp looking rich pinky red colour and the taste, while still tart, wasn’t aggressive or sharp. Just a super clean finishing berry tinged pure hibiscus. It was nice and surprisingly very calming and grounding in the moment.
Cold Brew!
It’s nice to revisit old friends, and that’s what this tea feels like. Sweet juicy and tropical peach with a hint of pineapple, ginger, and that familiar borderline buttery undertone. It’s got the perfect sweet cocktail lingering sticky finish but the hint of ginger is grounding and offsets some of the syrupy elements of the taste.
Friendly reminder that I do not numerically rate DAVIDsTEA blends as I’m currently employed there and it would be an obvious conflict of interest. Any blends you see with numerical ratings were rated prior to my employment there. These reviews are a reflection of my personal thoughts and feelings regarding the teas, and not the company’s.
Cold Brew!
I’m just finishing off this cold brew now. I was really craving something sour yesterday and then again this morning, since I hadn’t scratched that flavour craving itch. I ended up having this and a bag of Sour Cherry Blasters while casually working on tasting notes this morning and now my tongue is sore/raw from all the acid…
However, my sour craving has been satisfied! This was delicious and punchy tart sour apple – like a Jolly Rancher apple flavour but just jack up the malic acid pop to a ten out of ten. It’s soooo clear cut and straight forward and I feel like you either love it or you hate it. Certainly, it’s not the type of tea I could have all the time. When it’s right, though? Oh, it’s soooo right!

Cold Brew!
Very simple and direct flavour of peach on a neutral black tea base. Like, there’s no frills to this tea at all – but as a very sippable cold brew to drink during a day of working it’s inoffensive and approachable while still conveying the taste of peach.
This is a really lovely chocolate orange blend; the orange is aromatic and sweet and the chocolate notes so dark and rich. The both play beautifully with the tastes of malt, honey, grains, sweet potato, cacao, and soft fruitiness of the black tea base as well. However, I’m not necessarily getting anything that makes me think of cannolis specifically. That could be either the fried dough/shell or more of the sweet cheese/cream filling – I’d take either.
I see I rated this very highly in the past, so I’d be curious to go back and read those tasting notes. Maybe this is something that’s unique to the cup I steeped in particular, or just this reblend? Perhaps my tastes have changed slightly. Regardless I still liked the mug a lot and thought the flavours were exceptional. Just missing a slight ‘something something’ in terms of nailing the name perfectly.
Is this S&V Almond Sugar Cookie? Because that one is delicious.
Oh I LOVE those cookies.
Cameron B. Yes and no ;) They’re definitely the same tea but because of all the weird backend wholesale craziness it’s not really correct to say it’s S&Vs tea – they just happen to be buying from the same source (along with MANY other teas).
I think S&V blends their own teas? At least they claim to, and their prices would seem to support it.
It’s… complicated. Lots of grey area. I can send you a DM on IG if you want :)
I’m curious about this as well! I try to mostly buy from companies that blend their own teas, so I’m interested in these details too if you wouldn’t mind sharing!
