692 Tasting Notes
this was my late night reading tea last night!
(i also read a great dark story with BAMF Phil Coulson in it. i will confirm that these two things together were extra awesome.)
i opened the sealed tea pouch and was apprehensive about the hibiscus. but i’m trying to not give hibiscus such a bad rep in my head and be more open-minded about it. (the employees of the awesome local tea shop declare that they ‘love’ hibiscus. and i trust them so much that i figure maybe it’s like sour beer. maybe it’s a flavor you adapt into?)
so yes, it was fruity and sweet but not painfully tart. and i thought i rinsed my mug well, but maybe the scent from the chai i had earlier was till attached to the pores of the surface, because i got a touch of cinnamon notes in the cup. which i THINK may be a nice trick to enjoying hibiscus! it definitely added to the experience.
thank you Shelley_Lorraine for this evening treat!
fact 1, i am not a chai person. or perhaps i am a chai person in training. whatever, point being, not really a chai person.
fact 2, this cup is delicious! low on the flavors i don’t like as much and high on the ones i do. and the tea. i can taste the tea still! (i feel like chai spices usually over power the tea itself.)
thanks for sending these tea bags my way Scheherazade! i’m really really enjoying every sip.
also i do like spicy food. like, more than the average spicy food loving person. or so my boyfriend would agree.
(also salt. but i’m getting off topic.)
so just the mention of a curry house in the tea description has my mouth watering. dangit. where’s the takeaway menus?
thanks to Anna again for the great opportunity to taste some of these teas!
i just ordered a ton of Della Terra’s Cafe Vanilla and i even have a tin labeled and set aside and ready for filling. that’s how happy i will be to have it on hand. vanilla is easy!
i’m really into having some hot herbal tea to drink in the evening as i read.
it’s a good habit i’m getting myself into.
i drank this last night as i watched the movie “It’s A Disaster”.
if you have netflix and you like dark comedies, watch it tonight! seriously.
i flailed and had tons of fun.
the first rooibos, no wait let me rephrase, the first tea i ever ordered and tasted, was DavidsTea Caramel Creme. similar to this. but we all know that Della Terra does it all just a little better. so this is a good desert rooibos and i enjoyed every sip. plus CAPPUCCINO!
thank you Anna for the great sample!
now i will breifly complain that i did place a davidstea order last week, my first in many many months, and it has been sent to the Undeliverable Mail office because of a typo on the shipping label and now i have to, like, email and call davidstea and stuff and it’s annoying cuz i just want me tea darnit!
but at least my della terra order shipped today. i got a sample of that Minty Cow coming and everything.
oh yummm lemony, i mean lemonesque, goodness.
cuz, ya know, it’s yuzu not lemon. and stuff.
but it is very nice. pepper lemon is a good description. cuz it’s slightly tart but not sweet. and has a kinda delicate bite in the aftertaste.
thank you Scheherazade for this wonderfully aromatic tea!
i definitely like it even more than i thought i would.
yesterday i had a puerh-splosion in my house and tasted 6 different puerhs. all multiple steeps. and got mega tea drunk. and i feel like i learned a lot about tasting puerhs! not in a solid way but i definitely gathered info in my little monkey brain.
i have a couple puerh stuffed mandarin tea bombs in my collection, but KallieBoo! crushed her’s up and sent the sample to me that way. and i must say i like it better like this. cuz i’ve just been steeping the whole thing at once in a large pot. which is kinda too bitter. and mine is a white puerh anyways which i think is too mellow for that much rind.
okay okay okay, what i’m saying is, i like this one way better :)
it has a slightly more fishy puerh smell than all of the teas i had yesterday, but it’s still not strong. it’s also somewhat less earthy and slightly more on the leafy tasting side than some other puerhs i’ve had of late.
great as a pre-gym sipper!
i mega oversteeped this and it is still freakin delicious!
i’ll still drink some down and then add some more hot water to mellow it a bit, but seriously this is a good yunnan. the dry leaf smelled VERY honey to me. like sweetener-added in the most delicious way.
i’m so so glad that i have at least 2 big cups worth left from what Shelley_Lorraine gave me in a swap. this is a tea i could get tea drunk on cuz i’d just have cup after cup after cup!
thanks for helping me through monday.
very very nice buttery oolong!
greenly sweet with a light and bright cream. it relaxes in your mouth.
i made a beer and tea cocktail.
for my 454th logged beer and tea. today is the day my logging numbers coincided.
it’s actually not a bad beer-tea-ni!
i’ve mixed iced tea with wine before, and champagne for a brunch type thing.
the good balance for this drink i found was something like 2:1 tea to beer.
Ale brewed with Grains of Paradise, Coriander, Ginger, and Sweet Orange Peel.
this is my 6th puerh today.
i still have 2 more puerhs in my collection of samples but i just can’t do any more. i feel crazy! like euphoric tea drunk awesome crazy!
buuuuuut even with the giddy feelings this puerh is not so exciting. i’ll probably only do 4 steepings and leave it at that.
my sister is watching anime today and the baby is out of the house and we’ve taken over the kitchen with baking and tea and we watched some more episodes of Attack on Titan and that show is totally efficient and pretty awesome.
also i saw Pacific Rim on friday and didn’t even say anything about it?!? wtf?! who AM i?!
yesterday i read a fan fic in which Phil Coulson (of the Avengers) is drunk and he calls himself and leaves a message for his future self and it was good times. consent is always sexy. amiright?!?
“Hi, Phil? It’s me, you. From the… past? I’m drunk and Clint won’t kiss me cause he doesn’t believe you like him? I don’t know. You have to ask him, he says. Right?” – loud noise, the next part muffled – “Will you talk to him?” – another voice – “Sure.” – a click and the muffling goes away – “Hi, Phil. Drunk-you tells me you want to make out with me but I told him I gotta get permission from sober-you. So when you listen to this, if you haven’t died from embarrassment I guess you should maybe give me a call? Although if you don’t bring this up I guess I’ll keep it to myself too. So don’t worry.”
