737 Tasting Notes
from the Traveling Tea Box :)
another nightly cup of herbal. fresh and warm in the late evening.
sorry i’ve been neglecting you steepster :(
but lately i’m really into my dance class and finishing up marathon training and my new kindle and not hanging up my laundry and never getting enough sleep instead.
all the un-sampled teas i have are herbal, so my tastings have been kinda slow going.
but due to a slight chill in the air and my perpetual slight dehydration due to marathon training, i actually drank 3 herbals last night :)
this one, i never finished the cup. and i could say that it was because i was too tired? but i think it was probably just because i didn’t really like it. it was just a sample and i don’t have any more, so not to worry.
my new new kindle? it’s on my doorstep right now! i can’t wait to go home and cuddle it. can’t! wait!
this is a tea bag that was sent to me from Scheherazade!
i’ve been actually enjoying my chamomile lately, who would have thunk!
i mean, this is just a big old reminder to me to not be too opinionated.
but really, sure i’m an enthusiastic person, but opinionated is probably not a word that most people would use to describe me. so i think i’m safe.
a crazy thing is happening. i’m getting my own office!
i’m gonna have a mega tea set up happening in there. and look-out cuz if anyone comes in and shows even a little bit of interest i will probably make them smell my teas. MAKE them smell!
i’m gonna have to buy a few cactuses for the window.
drank this last night.
not exciting but not awful! so, yay.
the weather cooling off a bit in the evenings is really making herbal tea drinking much more desirable. i suspect my sister and i are really gonna tear through my stash. which is good because it’s true i need to get it a bit more under control before i can shop again.
i’ve learned a lot about what i like and don’t like in my teas. or basically, drinking all this tea has helped me to know what my preferences are. so i’m looking forward to rebuilding my tea stash once i have the space.
ikr i mean who even AM I?!?!?
i’m drinking a camomile tea!? and bagged tea at that!?
but listen, i did a 20 mile long run this morning and it made me stupid and the day all kindsa weird. (but ya the run went really good)
example. i’m reading a story in which Tony Stark is a werewolf and i’m watching season 2 of a show called Secret Eaters (crap telly) on youtube. so yes. totally weird and stupid.
this camomile is easily covered by the spearmint! i don’t hate it :)
win for grocery store tea. and good for LAAAAZY tea making nights.
i’ll admit my expectations were low.
i ended up in a youtube vortex after watching this video
The Metamorphosis by The Royal Ballet
i’ve been taking a modern dance class and i’ve started doing this ridiculous day dreaming thing where i imagine finishing my BFA in dance. but then my body kindly reminds me that dance is a thing for the young. xo
i’m drinking herbal. cuz i need to get better sleep. cuz let me tell you, i went to bed early last night on the super rare occasion that i was actually tired AND could also fall asleep. and as a result…? I HAD THE BEST FREAKIN RUN THIS MORNING!
i was resenting the fact that i had agreed to get up early and start running at 6am when it’s still dark out and everything is annoying cuz it feels kinda wrong. but my pace was probably the fastest it’s ever been for 10 miles. and if not THE fastest, then damn close to it.
too bad i find most herbal boooooring.
though i’ll snap out of that eventually i hope.
i love the smell of this one! but but but the taste is kinda just fake. i’d rather eat a mango. or an orange. or maybe even an orange squeezed into hot water.
(TMI! reference to lady parts and stuff! bee doo bee doo!
today i am celebrating my 7 year anniversary of being sterilized. i’m gonna honor it with a craft beer and the watching of the Agents of SHIELD pilot episode. Happy Comic Book Day ya’ll!!)
from the Traveling Tea Box!
a nice bold herbal. i think there might be some hibiscus in it? hibiscus is not plum if you ask me. i can tell the difference. and you can’t cover it up with cinnamon either.
that bit makes it sound like i don’t like it. but i do. i do like it enough yes. but harney has a way of being cinnamon heavy i think. or maybe it’s just me? so i like it, but with some reservations i suppose.
my 500th TEA!!
and boy, do i have a cute story to tell about the day.
and boy, do i really like this tea! i’m totally gonna buy a bag. definitely. it’ll replace my highly coveted Caramel Toffee from Dammann since i can’t go back to france anytime soon. yes it’s that nice. it feel decadent and the flavors are deep and dark without being broody. and i’ll probably keep it in stock since it’s local. and fucking delicious.
blabby story time,
i woke up and had my usually saturday morning long run. 18 miles. and my running friend and i were very angry during the last third of the run. see, sometimes if you don’t fuel enough or are just having an off day, you get a case of what i can “the road crazies”. somewhere during the last 3 miles she said she was gonna strangle me. and without missing a beat i said i was gonna strangle her first. we were pissed. starving and hurting and pissed. and then we laughed SO HARD about it on the car ride home. it’s just part of long distance running. and it’s always hilarious after the fact.
i like doing hard things sometimes.
i hurried home and scarfed down as much protein as i could and showered and then went to get my hair cut. lucky me, my hair stylist moved locations and is now in the same shopping center as Carytown Teas!!!
i had planned all week that i was gonna save my landmark 500th uniquely tasted tea for saturday when i could pick a new tea from the tea list. and i knew i was gonna get a black tea because it’s my fave. (i would get a lapsang blend but Carytown doesn’t really have them, though their lapsang is very very good.) i went down the list and picked Mistie’s Blend. there is also a Patricia’s Blend. they are the two store owners. Mistie obviously has my taste in teas because this cup is exactly everything i would want.
i told the tea shop gal that it was my 500th tea and that i keep track of them and she asked what i use and she knew about steepster and i think she finds this website equal parts silly and charming. i told her that i love it and that ALL the NERDZ hang out there!! and that i spend more time on steepster than i EVER spend on Facebook. (i love you, you nerds!)
we went on to discuss tea reviews and how people don’t always know what they are talking about when they review tea, but i think that’s okay. like how i can maybe read a movie review that hates the movie, but i can still tell by the descriptions and observations that it’s definitely a movie that i’d like. even if the reviewer didn’t. it’s just all information that nudges the tea story along.
also aren’t we all SO DIFFERENT in the mouth?! so so different.
okay i’m sorry i’m babbling. i’ve had a lot of caffeine this morning and took a decongestant for my allergies and also slept like 12 hours yesterday which is UNHEARD OF for me. (i’m a 5-6 hrs a night max person.)
okay, long story longer, the tea gal said that “her and Patricia never agree on tea” and that’s when it dawned on me. i’m drinking a tea that was blended by the person i’m talking to! i’m ordering Mistie’s tea and chatting with Mistie about tea as she brews her tea for me.
i was delighted!
AND THEN SHE GAVE THE CUP TO ME FOR FREE.
that’s the ultimate fist bump!!
i love tea and i love tea people.
(i had also brought along a small tupperware container so i could keep the tea bag for a second brew. which i did as soon as i got home.)
(i did not confess to her how ridiculous and uninformative my tea reviews are. haha i hope she still sells me tea in the future if she ever finds out.)
