drank Citron Green by Adagio Teas

This wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be and that’s a pretty high praise considering how much I hate citrus in my tea. Honestly, I expected a lot more citrus in it just based off the scent of the dry leaves. When I opened the package there was an overwhelming lemon scent. What it ended up being is a very light green with a hint of citrus.

The resteep lost the citrus flavor entirely and left me with a glass of a barely flavored cup of tea. I’ll probably save the last of this for when I have a cold and only steep it once.

I do think this is another green tea that those who don’t typically like greens would enjoy.

So far this was my least favorite out of the green sampler pack that came with my ingenuiTEA. It had a very strong earthy flavor to it, in fact it was the strongest tea in my sampler pack. However, I found it to be on the astringent side and had a bitter after taste that I didn’t care for. The bitterness disappeared a little bit at room temperature, but it wasn’t much of an improvement

I started out not really caring for this one and I can’t quite put my finger on why, but I didn’t like it hot. I’ll have to make some more up later and post another review once I can put my finger one exactly what it was I didn’t like. It’s also possible that the taste is just so different from the Dragonwell I had just finished up that it was a bit of a shock to my taste buds to go to such a sweet tasting green tea. I left it to sit on the counter for awhile and once it cooled off to room temperature the flavor was noticibly sweeter and the flavors mellowed out. By the end I really started to enjoy this tea.

I did steep this twice and iced down the second steep for later. This is another green tea which worked well iced and I actually preferred it that way. My second steep took on a melon flavor that just worked well iced.

I think this would be a great green tea for people who don’t normally care for it. This doesn’t have the grassy taste that many people seem to dislike.

I found that this tea didn’t have the depth that other dragonwell teas do, but it had a nice subtle grassy taste to it that I enjoyed with slightly sweet and buttery flavors towards the end. What I did notice was a lack of astringency with this tea, although I drank this after it had cooled quite a bit and had the resteep iced the next day. I thought this made a nice iced tea, there are many green teas that don’t work well iced.

I think next time around I’ll use more leaf and see if I can’t pull a stronger flavor out of the leaves. I used a heaping teaspoon, but it just didn’t give me enough of the flavor that I was looking for.

I am always interested in swapping so if you see anything in my cupboard that you want to try just send me a message. Please keep in mind that I order most of my teas in sample sizes and may not have a lot to swap. I’m also trying to keep my swaps limited to one a month so I don’t break the bank.

My favorite tea companies to order from are American Tea Room, Rishi, TeaVivre, and Single Origin Teas, however I am constantly lured away from my favorites by a good sale.

Ingredients I love in tea
rose, peach, oolong, osmanthus, vanilla, marshmallow root and peppermint

Ingredients I dislike in tea:
spearmint, chocolate, orange, hibiscus, sage and for the most part lemon.

I am a firm believer that sage only belongs in my thanksgiving stuffing/dressing and absolutely not in my tea.

Allergies
Cinnamon, Chocolate, Burdock Root, and Goji Berries

Teawares:
FORLIFE Curve Teapot, 24oz
Adagio ingenuiTEA, 16oz
Adagio Iced ingenuiTEA, 32oz
Zojirushi Water Pot, 4L
Libbey Country Fair drinking jars for ice tea
TeaVivre Travel Gaiwan

Rating Guidelines:

100 – 90: Pantry essential and some of my all time favorites that I can’t live without.

89 – 80: You’ll have a pretty good chance of finding this is my pantry on a regular basis, but it isn’t the end of the world if I run out.

79 – 70: I might consider restocking this at some point if the price was right.

69 – 40: Not undrinkable, but I wouldn’t go out of my way to buy it again.

39 – 20: What in the world were they thinking? Probably still finished this just because I hate to waste anything.

19 – 0: Wow, that’s so terrible chances are pretty good I dumped it out and gave away the rest.

My current top five favorite teas:

China Black – Rishi Tea
Earl Grey Cream – Zen Tea
Lemoncello – American Tea Room
Nonpareil Anxi Qing Xiang TieGuanYin Oolong – TeaVivre
White Tea Rose Mélange – Rishi Tea
