17 Tasting Notes

Organic Hangzhou Tian Mu Qing Ding Green Tea from Teavivre
90

This my first sample and tea from Teavivre. Thank you for the chance to try your teas. It will be a great help in my discovery of this world of tea.

I brewed 7g in 8oz water for 1m. It has a wonderful creamy, vegetal taste. It finishes with just a bite of bitterness (the good kind). I love this tea.

2infusion 2m, similar to the first
3infusion 3m, smoother, but still flavorful.

leaves are wonderful to look at in the glass.

China Keemun First Grade zk11 from Upton Tea Imports
80

This is a mellow black tea without bitterness. A slight hint of pepper and smoke and a smooth, light fruit taste

Laoshan Black from Verdant Tea
98

I really have little to add to what has been said. This tea is excellent. Lots of chocolate brownie the first infusion, cinnamon with the second, and a creamy citrus with the third

Dian Hong from Dobra Tea
81

This is a pretty good yunnan. I tried it at 3, 2 and 2.5 mins with the latter being the best. Not too astringent with a mellow malt to it.

China Green Young Hyson (ZG12) - Organic from Upton Tea Imports
82

1tsp 3mins 180f
Slight vegetal flavor and a little smoky. Pleasant, smooth, and affordable organic tea.
infusion 2
4mins 180f
Slight hint of bitterness comes through, but still quite good.

Huang Shan Mao Feng from Dobra Tea

Ok, went with what I thought was a tsp per cup and 1m, but I’m sure I need to double both. Way too thin. I can tell there is something in there trying to get out. I won’t rate this one due to my utter lack of tea-making ability at this stage. :)

Ooooh Darjeeling from Adagio Teas
70

This tea came in an Oolong sampler.
I have little experience with oolongs and have never had a straight Darjeeling, so I was reticent to try this tea. It doesn’t remind me of the straight oolongs I have tried (all 2 of them!). It tastes like a fruity, less intense black tea. I can note what tastes like grape.
I will revisit it after I have had some experience with darjeeling. Waiting on an Upton sample.

Black Dragon Pearls from Adagio Teas
70

This is a good black tea. I’m afraid that just having a sample hasn’t allowed me to get the tea/water ratio right. The first batch was too weak because I used to few pearls. This second one is better, but it still tastes like a weaker Yunnan Jig from Adagio.

Fujian Rain from Adagio Teas
77

I’m new to oolongs and got this from a sampler. From reading other reviews, I do notice the rock mineral taste. There are also some peach notes after it cools. Very nice.

Sencha Overture from Adagio Teas
70

First sencha. I bought a sampler and it is an ok tea. I like the salt air smell and the slight veggie taste. I gather from the reviews, there are many better senchas out there.

Yerba Mate from Guayaki
Foxtrot from Adagio Teas
Dragonwell from Adagio Teas
47

Not sure if I need to add more tea or whether its just a weak green. 1.5 tsp per cup.

Breville One Touch Tea Maker from Teaware
97

One day with this machine and I am so glad I splurged. I am a beginner and this helps me make sense of adjustments I need to make when brewing.

Tie Guan Yin from Dobra Tea
83

I doubled the tea per cup to 2 tsp. The shop recommended 1.5 minutes, but I found that weak. I infused at 3, 3.5 and 4 and found this to be better. Nice tea to drink whle studying all day

Tie Guan Yin from Dobra Tea
83

Very tasty. Bought at dobrateame in Portland. 3 infusions at 1.5, 3 and 4 minutes.

Yunnan Jig from Adagio Teas
77

This was a good tea, but I will put it up to 5 mins next time. Perfect flavor for a cold morning.

Profile

Bio

I am very new to tea. I began moving away from coffee because it was wrecking my nerves, but also becoming “necessary” to navigate a full life of work and grad school. I switched to Yerba mate and now am moving to strictly tea. I have found I like black tea in the morning and green or oolong the rest of the day. I’m going to try as many as I can in hopes of finding affordable everyday teas and some standouts for all day writing sessions on on the weekends.
