Let me preface this by saying I know I like this tea.

My fiance and I were away this weekend for a freshwater fish convention — three days of aquarium/fish vendors and lots (and lots and lots) of seminars on different kinds of freshwater fish. My aquarium-obsessed significant other was in his glory. As a concession to me, I was encouraged to bring along my kettle and tea so I’d have something tasty to drink while we were away. Kiwi’s Big Adventure was one of my travel teas because I like it and because (historically) oversteeping doesn’t lead to bitterness. What better tea to bring, right?

Well….

The hotel water and the convention center water both tasted strongly of chlorine. I brewed this tea in a travel mug at our hotel, brought it with me, and the first taste was pure bleach. Absolutely foul and it lingered — don’t know if that one was the tea or a sensory memory, but this was so unpleasant. Going to try again tonight now that I’m home and, hopefully, get a good cup out of my remaining leaf so that I can actually rate this one appropriately.

(While we were at the convention, my fiance bought a bunch of aquarium supplies as well as some fish. So now, the 25 gallon tank he put in our bedroom has been set up and contains fish. This would be happy news — that tank has been sitting empty for a while now — if not for the fact that he’s now talking about doing a small saltwater tank. We agreed to stop at three tanks! Aghhh!)

I became interested in tea spring 2013, when some friends of mine brought me to a local tea shop. I’ve been experimenting since, and am absolutely in love! I am especially fond of blended teas, and I’m a sucker for gimicky flavors.

My cupboard is stocked with a lot of DAVIDsTEA at the present, although I do have a few teas from some local shops. I’m looking forward to branching out and trying teas from different vendors and shops. Let the journey begin!
