271 Tasting Notes

Campfire Blend from Whispering Pines Tea Company
90

This is a beautiful tea. It’s smooth (yet I can’t understand how it’s smooth with the amount of different teas in it), yet kind of smoky, but not overly so.

It’s nicely spiced & a touch citrusy. It’s just yum. I hate when I love a tea, but failed to buy enough of it. This is one of those teas. So far I have liked every tea I’ve had from Whispering Pines.

Grandma's Pumpkin Pie from Della Terra Teas
100

I got this one because I had read a few reviews saying this one was better than DAVIDsTEA’s version. Better? Is that even possible? I feel that it’s probably the same… as was Autumn Leaves the same as Oh Canada.

It smells the same, looks the same.

I have to say they taste the same as well, which is just fine by me. I love both versions and you can never have enough of your favourite tea. When I run out of one, I’ve got the other.
Super yum!

Dirty Chai from Della Terra Teas

This is one of those teas I knew I wouldn’t like, but had to at least try.

The dry notes smell like a chai flavoured coffee, as opposed to q coffee flavoured chai. Hmmm not quote what I expected
The steeped notes smells mainly the same.

It has a rather hot tamales candy flavour to it (in the US I do believe they’re called red hots). It’s interesting , it has a slight coffee tastes, it kind of good (I hate coffee). As it cools the coffee flavours come out way more and then I can’t drink it.

If you like coffee, you’ll like this. If you’re a coffee hater you probably won’t like it. Definetly not a tea for me.

The Gingerbread Man from Della Terra Teas
89

I way over steeped this one, probably 12mins or so. I forgot about it while chatting with my daughter after I got home from work. I’ve had one tea that tasted like a ginger snap. Other than ginger snaps, I’m not much a fan of gingerbread cookies.

This tea is ginger like, but more of a bakey ginger than thie kind of ginger you get from most teas. Generally I find ginger can way overpower a tea and ruin it.

This works nicely, ginger like, sweet perhaps a bit fruity. Not really bakey like a cookie. A nice yummy bedtime tea.

Chocolate Pumpkin Pie from Della Terra Teas
87

I didn’t know if I’d like this one. I’m not generally a fan of other pumpkin flavoured things like ,cheesecake. I wasn’t sure how chocolate would lend itself to pumpkin.

The dry notes smell kind of like artificial chocolate, musty ick. Steeped it smells chocolatey and pumpkiny
My first few sips I felt it tasted like tootsie rolls. Yummy delicious tootsie rolls, but that aren’t getting stuck in your teeth. This is yummy, I’m impressed. The more this tea cools the more it tastes like pumpkin pie mixed with some chcolate. Another win for Della Terra.

Om nom nom

Nut & Honey Crunch from Della Terra Teas
90

Ohhh first note for this tea.

I received my second order today from Della Terra. So many teas for such a good price. But I’m left wishing I had ordered 2oz of them.
The dry leaves smell mostly of apple and the faintest hint of nuts. Steeped it smells more nutty, applet and oatmeal like.

This tea tastes apple like and nutty, its also quite sweet, but not overly so.. I find as this cools the nut flavour comes out more. This is a great evening tea. I have been having a hard time finding night time yeas that are reminiscent of fall and safe for me at night. (Insomniac and anxiety prone, over here)

Chili Chocolate Truffle from Della Terra Teas
95

Dear Della Terra Teas, why you make teas so yummy? I think you may be my new favourite tea company, even above DAVIDsTEA & I LOVE DT. But you Della Terra, you are awesome.

I can’t believe this tea received anything below a 90 rating. It’s too yummy.

The dry notes smell like I opened a bag of truffles, it’s malty, milky, chocolatey goodness. Oh boy! No artificial chocolate in here.

The steeped tea brews up to a nice medium brown colour. The taste…. oh the taste, malty, creamy, chocolatey. Slightly sweet, with a hint of bitterness, everything that makes up the perfect chocolate truffle. And then you get the whole subtly spicy chilis. This is so freakin good.

The Sleeping Bear Blend from Whispering Pines Tea Company
100

I received this as a sample with my order.
The description of this tea reminds me exactly of camping in Northern Ontario. As much as this tea drew me in I didn’t want to commit to a larger size because it isn’t really a flavoured tea & it had pine needles in the description. I like my pine needles on the ground.

Alas I am disappointed I didn’t include this as a larger portion. It steeps up to a beautiful light green. The taste is very light, refreshing & reminicent of my days of camping in a secluded forest. Where you can hear all the beautiful sounds of nature & smell everything so exquisitely.

I didn’t really get the pine needle flavour or smell. But this is a beautiful tea that I feel I can drink all the time. I guess I have to place another order to order myself 2oz of this.

Hot Cinnamon Spice from Harney & Sons
69

I received this in a swap either from Alphakitty or Jes sorry I can’t remember who.

This is super cinnamony smelling, like hot, spicy cinnamon, not bakey cinnamon. It steeps up to the same scent. So delicious.

This tea is super sweet. Wow! It would he great if it wasn’t for all the sweetness. As it cooled it got even sweeyer. It had a nice flavour when and if you can get past the sugary sweetness.

Toasted Coconut Chai from Whispering Pines Tea Company
94

Backlog from yesterday.

This is my second tea from whispering pines and it smells delicious. Very chai, very spicy. There is a ton of coconut in it, but I don’t get the smell of coconut.

This steeps up to pure deliciousness. It’s a right in your face chai, the way a chai should be. Unfortunetly I don’t get any coconut. I’m gonna tryththe stove top method with it AMD see if that helps.

Don’t get me wrong, this is fabulous chai. I just want more coconut flavour.

S'mores from Della Terra Teas

I think I ruined it. I didn’t follow steeping instructions and steeped for nearly 5 mins. My regular for a black tea.

The dry notes smell choclate and marshmallowy. But not or the real variety. A little artificial. I have to say though as it sits beside me after its done steeping it smells like a real s’more is sitting there.

My first two sips were good, not great. I had let it cool significantly. The chocolate is there (I find it artifical like), and then you’re hit with the creamy, gooeyness of marshmallow. I’m not getting Tue graham cracker though. (I wonder what would happen if I added a lil of Whispering Pines graham cracker Rooibos to it?)

My subsequent sips were bitter and very much just black tea. I let it cool too much.
What I do like about this tea over say Teaopia’s s’mores tea, is that the marshmallows actually melt.
Hmm also thinking about trying this on the stove in milk.

I won’t give this a numerical rating until I can try it again at a shorter steep time.

Caramel Candy Apple from Della Terra Teas
7

This is probably the prettiest tea I’ve had, both the dry leaves and the steeped tea. The red candy sprinkles make it shine and then once steeped the tea is shimmery.

The dry notes smell rather perfumy, I had to sample one of the chunks of apple and a piece of caramel. They also taste perfumey.

The steeped tea smells the same as the dry notes, like perfume. Unfortunetly the tea tastes pretty much the same. Perfume! Yuck. There are hints of caramel and apple, but I couldn’t get past the perfume taste. O had to ditch the tea. Too had :(

Flaming Chocolate Mate from 52teas
51

Stupid phone ate my tasting note…. grrrrrr

Honey Pistachio Biscotti from Tealux
78

I got this in a swap from itachi

This smells like that artificial honey I’ve mentioned before. I can see the pistachio, yum.

Once steeped this tastes mostly like honey, but kind of like caramelized honey, if that makes any sense. This is a nice honey tea, quite good. I just wish it had all the layers as the name suggests. It could be so much more, bakey and like pistachios. I think this one will be good with milk too.

Honey Graham Cracker from Whispering Pines Tea Company
80

My Whispering Pines order is here woooohooooo. So everything kinda smells spicy chai like from my coconut chai and peppermint chai. I split them all up to alliviate some of tue spice from the ones that werent supposed to he chai like. I accidentally order two ounces of this instead of one. I only wanted to try it because of the Rooibos.

I tried this one first because its bedtime and I need an herbal at this hour. I’m pretty well only getting a cinnamon scent from this one. Ergh as it steeps so much Rooibos smell… Damn you Rooibos.

This is definetly nice tasting, Tue Rooibos flavour isn’t really there, which is grea. I’m mostly getting a cinnamon taste like the dry notes. I’m definetly not getting graham cracker , but its nice and light. Great for evenings since I’m so sensitive to caffeine.

I’m going to try like Amanda said the next time and add a little honey to it.

Butter Truffles from The Tea Table
94

I feel that I received this from Alphakitty in a swap.
I requested this thinking buttery soft chocolates. I didn’t check the description so when I got it I was surprised by what I smelt and saw. Straight up butter with spices. I then realized truffles are also some other type of food, but can’t think of what it is.
Once I steeped this is smelt so butter like, and then you got some of the spice smell.

This is really unique and complex. I like it, a lot actually, which I’m surprised by. It’s super buytery and them freakin deliciously spicy, but not your typical tea spicy. I don’t get the pistachio or any sweetness from it. Purely savoury. This could easily replace a bag of chips for those nights that I’m craving salty things.

Autumn Leaves from Della Terra Teas
94

I bought this because I figured it would be like DTs Oh Canada!

It smells like mapley goodness. I only bought 1oz because it’s a Rooibos. I love the leaves in the tea, so cute.

This tea is deliciously maple. It’s like when you would go on a field trip to the sugar bush and they’d pour the fresh maple syrup on the snow, then you’d twirl Tue hardening syrop onto a popsicle stick. Ahhh memories. I wish I had some real maple syrup to add to this, this should he an indulgent treat.

You get a bit of a woodsy taste with the maple (that’s the part that reminds me the most of the twirling syrup on the popsicle stick.). And the best part… no yucky Rooibos.

I bet this would be delicious with milk and would probably taste like maple fudge. Another win from my Della Terra order.

Oatmeal Raisin Cookie from Della Terra Teas
100

Everyone’s review were the main reason I bought this tea. Oatmeal raisin cookies are my favourite kind of cookies, but only if they’re chewy.

The dry notes smell like cinnamon, bakey and like raisins (do raisins have a smell?). Oh geez, goodness already.

On first sip I get the bakeyness of the cookie, the cinnamon and the raoisin. Oh the layers of perfection. This is so good. This may be the most layered tea I’ve had. I want to chug the whole lug down, and yet I just want to sip it and slowly enjoyt it. I’m so torn.

You have got to try this. This tea very well be my Kew fav. So scrumptipus.

Banana Nut Bread from DAVIDsTEA
94

I got this in a swap from Sare, thank you!
The dry notes definitely smell like banana. But raisins in banana bread? I actually prefer my banana bread nutless. My Nanny makes the best banana bread.

The steeped notes smell bananaie, cake like and buttery. It even brewed up to look like melted butter. I allowed this to steep extra long because it was so light in colour.

This is really good. It’s like a piece of fresh banana bread with butter that has melted on it. It’s a little sweet for my liking, in the way of teas (which is weird, because I have a major sweet tooth), this almost rivals my Nanny’s banana bread and that’s definitely saying something.

Ick, there’s a yucky scum, powdery layer on the bottom.

I actually wanted to try my banana matcha which also came today (I got four packages in total today) but I knew the caffeine would probably keep me up.

Azteca Fire from Teavana
59

I got this in a swap, thanks * kallieboo*
So this is one I wanted to try, probably the most from Teavana. Once I smelt the dry notes it wasn’t what I expected. I figured it picked up the chocolate smell from another yea, my memory doesn’t serve me well, I didn’t remember this was suppose to be a chocolate tea.
I’m only getting a chcolate smell from the dry notes.
I used 3 perfect teaspoons for my 16 oz mug, as I usually do. Good thing too, because this is super light on flavour, something I’ve come to know from Teavana.
It tastes like hot chocolate made with water, which I don’t drink, my hot chocolate has to he made with milk. I’ll finish what I have I’d this tea, but I’m pretty sure I won’t buy it.
With the leaves I have left I think I will brew it up the chai way. On the stove with milk.

Vampire Voodoo from The Tea Store Ottawa
85

Ok let’s face it, i pretty much bought this tea for its name. Halloween is my favourite holiday, so what better way to incorporate two of my favourite things.

The dry. notes are fruity and have a touch of spice, but also smells a little medicinal. The steeped notes are very fruity and this tea brews up a deep red, kinda like blood… Hence vampire! So awesome.

This is very fruity and berry like, its a hodge podge of fruit, but it works. I cant pick out a specific fruit. Right at the end of the sip I get a touch of what I believe to be cardamom, its very light, but its tyere and nice.

I would probably prefer this cold, but it is one that will work both ways.

Candy Cane Tea from The Tea Store Ottawa
99

Oh my goodness! This tea could get 100 based on smell alone. This is quite possibly the best smelling tea I have ever smelt. It smells exactly like a candy cane. It smells sweet and minty. The mix of cinnamon and peppermint blend perfectly in smell.

The black base comes out at the front with quite the bite, its not something I have experienced in a black tea before. The candy cane taste follows directly after. It tastes just like I’m min Hong on a cane I pulled right off my Christmas tree.

I dont generally add anything to my tea, but I think I’m gonna try adding a rock or two of rock sugar to it.

I don’t think the rock sugar really did much for the tea and I don’t want to add more incase it ruins it. As the tea cooled it lost most of the bite from the black tea and kept the deli opus minty candy cane taste.

This is quite a special tea. I’m glad I took the chance on this company. And I wish you could all try this.

Chance Combinations from Custom
51

A cold came up & smacked me in the face yesterday evening. So this morning I decided to brew up some of Teavana’s Jinga Citrus Twist with some honey… but I though, well I’m super congested and nothing helps that better than my Teaopia’s Peppermint. So I threw in some of that. So basically it was a 3:1 combination (perfect tea spoons). 3 Jinga, 1 Peppermint & about a teaspoon of honey.

Stupid me I forgot the Jinga was a green tea, but I had already boiled the water & poured it over my leaves. Oops. And then I forgot & steeped it nearly 5 minutes.

The peppermint kind of killed the ginger taste, which is great because ginger in tea isn’t my fav. So it had a nice citrusy taste, with a hint of peppermint.

Ahhhh so soothing! It tastes really good & soothed all the symptoms of this cold, the congestion & overall feeling of sickness.

Blueberry Kona Pop Tea Blend from Teavana
85

I’ve tried this iced in store a few times over the summer, mostly because my kids are crazy about it.

In store it is WAY too freakin sweet, belch. It does have a nice blueberry-ey flavour, if you can get past the sweetness. So on my most recent trip into Teavana I bought the exotic iced tea set, mostly for my kids, but there are some flavours in it that I wanted to try.

The dry.notes of the blueberry alone are so delicious, so much blueberry goodness. I live in Northern Ontario where THE best wild blueberries come from, so I know blueberry. The pineapple on its own smells gross. But I mixed em up anyways (this was my first go at blending teas together). I added 4 perfect teaspoons of each flavour to my steeping basket, plopped it into my pitcher added about 1.5 perfect tea spoons of rock sugar (had I been making this for myself i wouldn’t have added the sugar, but it was for my girls.), then I poured the boiling water over it. i allowed it to steep for about 15 mins as per the guy at teavana.

This is nicely blueberry-ey, it probably could have been sweeter for the kids liking, and could have been more blueberry flavoured for my liking. I’m not even sure that I get any flavour from the pineapple. What I definitely don’t get is a Rooibos taste, thank goodness!
