6686 Tasting Notes

Genmai from Sakao Enterprise
92

I grabbed a small cup of this and will pass on the rest to Liberteas and Azzrian

I do like the Hojicha in this! It’s it’s woodsy yet green tasting. It’s nutty and toasty. The popped rice is wonderful too! Larger than most popped rice I have seen in genmai.

This is much like soup! Quite brothy! I really REALLY like it!

Russian Maple Souchong from Tealux
84

Another one from SIL
I must say I am really in LOVE with Shanti’s Maple offerings but this is darned tasty, too! It’s not as strong with the maple but the Russian Caravan likeness – the Souchong – is pretty delightful! It’s done RIGHT. It has a good amount of smoke without it being obnoxious! YAY! Probably one of my faves from Tealuxe so far!

Blueberry Wonderland from Majesteas
81

Thanks SIL
This is a nicely flavored Black Tea with Blueberry! This is NOT overly astringent, it’s NOT bitter (at least at about 3 minutes infusion time it isn’t), it’s NOT soapy or artificial tasting…it’s just a nice blueberry flavored black. Not too strong but not too weak – just right!

Marie's Muffins from T by Daniel
84

Another one from SIL – thanks!
This is cake-E, Bake-E, Crusty, Lusty, Croissant-E!
Out of ALL of that you only saw the word lusty, didn’t you?
LOL

Anyhow…this has a deep blueberry flavor in addition to it being muffin-like, which is GOOD because it’s all part of the muffin, right? YUM!

This is a fairly intensely flavored Rooibos and the Rooibos itself even taste deeper than most Rooibos’s – or should I say Rooibos-EYE? Not real sure…perhaps Rooibos is like Deer – it’s Deer – if there is one or 100 of them – is it the same for Rooibos? Or is more than one Rooibos known as Rooibos’s? LOL – teehee! Just jabbering!

This is a nice tisane, tho! Clever! I like it!

Apple & Fig Crumble from Tea Blendz
81

Thanks SIL
Oh! Clove! Hello!
And then there was FIG – yay!
The black tea base is nice – about medium strength – but I didn’t really know there was Oolong in here, too, until I read the description. I like that it’s a black/oolong blend but there isn’t much of an oolong flavor that is noticeable. The Apple notes are nice, too! This pairs well with the Almond Butter & Cranberry Power Chews I am currently eating! YUM!

Leslie Grove Strawberry Patch from Majesteas
72

Thanks for this one, too, SIL
I LOVE the name of this one!

It’s a tad bitter but not bad! The fruity combo is good upfront but a little wonky on the aftertaste. I’m thinking this would be better cold. I had it hot. It was ‘ok’ – smelled pretty awesome, tho!

Mountain Black Tea from Momo Cha Fine Teas
93

I tried this one about a week ago and loved it. I must have been in a hurry because I didn’t log it. I only infused it for about 4 minutes but the water temp was quite hot – at least 200 degrees. This review, today, will be based on 10 minutes and 100 degrees C – as suggested by the company. I don’t think I have ever infused a black tea for 10 minutes on purpose. So I thought this was interesting and I really hope it works.

AFTER A FEW MORE MINUTES OF WAITING

Yup! This is GOOD!
It’s of medium strength for a black tea base. It’s amazing that this didn’t get bitter! LOVE that! While reading the package THIS TEA won the Great Taste GOLD 2012 Award! I can see why! It’s an original! It’s unique! This tea is selected and imported from Taiwan! The flavor isn’t INTENSE but it still has a NICE flavor on the tongue. It’s one of those to sit, sip, and ponder!

It’s slightly crusty and quite malty. It’s not a think malt but a smoother type malt. There are dark chocolate-like notes and honey or mead flavors popping thru. It’s really a joy to drink this tea!

Maple Splash from Tealux
62

Thanks to SIL for this one!
The over all taste of this is good but the flavor description and name don’t really add up. I LOVE the addition of the popcorn, I do! However, the black tea base is tremendously weak, the maple flavor is barely there, and the cinnamon is on the lighter side as well. This tastes more like an herbal tea than a flavored black tea to me.

If everything were about X 10 – I would think this is the perfect flavor combo. It’s just really on the light side.

BUT…what I can taste I do like! I just wish it had more POP!

Pistachio Gelato from California Tea House
75

VERY pistachio-Y. Almost a little LIME-Y, too. Toasty, Nutty, Vegetal, quite…GREEN, really. I’m not tasting the chocolate notes they mention but maybe it’s the chocolate notes that contribute to the creaminess on the back end. Pretty good, just be sure NOT to over infuse – it can get a little bitter!

Caramelized Pear from The Tea Place
70

Well, this one is ok – nothing special – but nothing bad. It’s slightly flavored pear, slightly caramel, slightly rooibos flavor. Yes…keyword is SLIGHTLY all across the board. Probably better iced, not bad hot, just not memorable.

Phoenix Mountain Oolong (#25) from Golden Moon Tea
85

These are crazy sturdy leaves! Long and winding, stiff and artistic-looking. It’s a lovely Oolong. Somewhat floral-sweet, nutty, a little buttery. The end sip is somewhat like a gentle Jasmine in comparison to give you an idea of flavor.

Delightful!

Keemun from Red Blossom Tea Company
84

Thanks SIL
A little ‘bitter-crusty’ like toast with a bit of smoke which I like! A natural berry note as well as cocoa type aroma and end sip on to the aftertaste. This is fairly strong and I like it! I should have started my day with this one!

Cheers!

Classic Christmas Blend from House of Tea
65

Thanks SIL
This sort of tastes like Cinnamon Water. The black tea is gentle, not strong. The Cinnamon is that of a cinnamon powder type cinnamon. And maybe Clove. The aftertaste lingers a little funky but it’s ‘ok’.

Might be good to add to something – a food – maybe another tea? It’s a good starting point but was left a ‘tad’ wanting…

Glad I got to try it tho!

Goût Russe Douchka from Dammann Freres
73

Thanks Sil
This is different than I thought it would be! It has a medium-weak black tea base with a quesi-citrus flavor but there is also a bit of tart in there – maybe like a not-quite-ripe-yet berry of some sort.

It’s an interesting flavor and a nice change-up, tho.
Creative Flavored Fruity Black, really…not bad!

21st Century Tea from Mountain Rose Herbs
81

I feel like I walked out in to my backyard and picked these myself! Well, not quite, but it’s very herbally and earthy to the eye! I was especially surprised by the Red Clover Buds/Blossoms! I don’t know if I have ever had a tea/tisane that features this ingredient!

It smells herbally and soupy. It looks, smells, and almost tastes like a broth.

As far as this being a full-out herbal tisane – this tastes quite good – in a more neutral type way, that is, it’s not overly herbally but it still serves a purpose. This really surprised me, actually. It’s pretty decent!

Champagne White Tea Fleury Doux from Art of Tea
86

This one smells subtly grape-like but it’s really hard to see/locate the black tea – most of it’s white tea. I understand that they probably did it this way so they don’t overpower the white tea with the black tea but again I’m having a hard time locating/see the actual black tea!

The flavor is very much a white tea tasting base with lovely grape-like notes and rose hints, as well. It makes a great gulping-cold-brewed tea and delicious sipping-white/blended tea as well!

Purely delightful!

Oriental Beauty Oolong from Golden Moon Tea
93

I grabbed enough for a cups-worth before passing the rest along in the Traveling Tea Box. This one lives up to it’s name…Beautiful! It’s gentle and mouth watering and somewhat citrusy – naturally! This is very nice! Glad I was able to try it!

Green Tea with Rosehips & Roselle & Orange Peel from Nature's Tea Leaf
65

I’m so sorry I have taken so long with the Traveling Tea Box…I’m almost thru it and ready to send it along! Last week I was ‘missing’ because I was super busy and in and out of the Chiro’s office! Eeeek! But…I am back and trying to catch up!

Nature’s Tea Leaf has some herbals that are coated with tangy hibiscus/rosehips/fruit ingredients and some straight-up herbals or fruity flavors that are all across the board. I’m glad they have so many offerings but some are hit and miss for me.

This one is alright…not on my faves list but ok. It has that tangy Rosehip/Roselle Flavor going on along side the Orange-Citrus. Those ingredients alone pack-a-punch but there are some green tea flavors as well as some herbally notes that popping thru too!

It’s a bit tart for me but is ok iced…so I am rating with the tarty factor in mind as well as the cold brewed idea, too!

Strawberry White Tea (851) from SpecialTeas
44

Looking back to the first time I tried this – I really didn’t like it – but I just had a cup and it was toned down quite a bit – for the better – I don’t know if it’s because it’s aged OR if it’s a better batch – it’s BETTER but still not awesome. Upping rating a tad because this is better than the last time I had it!

Ruby Pie from Butiki Teas
88

Sil you are wonderful!
Stacy from Butiki you are a genius!
RUBY PIE you are a delight!

This is a masterpiece – because RARELY do people MAKE IT in LIFE by ‘playing it safe’ and Butiki thrives on the creativeness behind the cuppa! Thank you for being so creative and taking those creative combo risks! They are great!

The Black tea base is fairly strong and I like that. The Vegan Bunny Grahams are a brilliant addition! They give it a wonderful crustiness to it! The floral notes give it a peppy and peppery pop here and there and the Strawberry notes are WONDERFUL! The Cinnamon notes are strong and appreciated. This tastes more like a meal than a cuppa!

I’ll have to order this and SOON!

If you over infuse it will be a little more cinnamony as well as stronger and “darker” or more astringent but it’s still an interesting flavor and satisfying and filling at that!

La Menthe Glaciale from Le Palais des Thes
98

This is absolutely amazing! This is one of the best ‘minty’ greens I have ever had! I like this both hot and cold even tho it was designed to be a ICED tea. From their new line of Iced Teas…this is wonderful! Les Plaisirs Purs! YUMMERS!!!! I’ll be sharing the rest of this with Liberteas and Azzrian and I hope the enjoy it, too!

Rockville Raspberry from Charleston Tea Plantation
92

My sister brought some of this back for me while she was in Charleston! Woot! I have a nice bit of it in my stash now! I had at least 10 cups last week! BACK LOG! Sorry for the dashboard flood! Sorry I was ‘missing’ last week! I should be ‘back’ most days now :) Miss everyone!

Blueberry Matcha from Red Leaf Tea
94

Backlogging from Friday! LOVE LOVE LOVE this! Upping rating!
