Blueberry Zabaglione

Black Tea by 52teas

Following the HUGE success we had with our Strawberry Zabaglione, I decided we should offer a blueberry version.

Here’s our premium Indian black teas blended with real (HUGE!) freeze-dried blueberries and natural flavors. This is a truly delicious combination of creamy zabaglione and blueberries with great black tea.

To be fair, I have to warn you that my favorite tea is 52teas Blueberry Cream cheese Danish… All blueberry teas will be compared to that masterpiece of a tea. So, I am sorry to say, that while this is delicious, it isn’t quite at the level of mouthwatering mastery of Blueberry Cream Cheese Danish!

The dark leaves are 52teas new black tea base. I find it to be a little stronger tasting than the previous one. I smell the blueberry with a hint of tartness followed by the scent of black tea which mingles in your nostrils for a while. There are quite a few whole dry blueberries surrounded by the tea leaves.

Once brewed, the liquor is dark brown and strongly scented of blueberry. I still find a bit of tartness in the scent, but the is a creamy note that I couldn’t find in the dry tea.

I first tried it unsweetened… and wow was it astringent. Immediately sweetened it and obtained a tasty cup of creamy blueberry deliciousness. The blueberry flavor was the first thing to stand out. 52teas has a particularly delicious blueberry flavoring! The creamy note came second as more of a sensation than a flavor, but it was very definitely there. Finally a delicate wave of astringency and black tea rolled across my tongue.

I recommend this to any one who hasn’t had the opportunity to try 52teas blueberry flavoring yet. It really is spectacular. If you like this tea, then I think that you will love Blueberry Cream Cheese Danish!

Wow… I am in blueberry heaven. 52teas’ blueberry is incredible. I can’t imagine living without it! It smells like blueberry through and through and it tastes even better.

I woke up late and decided to eat breakfast before going for my run. This tea poked through my memory and I decided to give it a try again. It is even better than I remember it. Right up there with my all time favorite blueberry Blueberry Cream Cheese Danish. I am nearly out of my pound of that tea…. So now I am going to have a lot of trouble deciding if I want a pound of this or a pound of that for my next blueberry fix of tea… Oh, tea decisions are hard!

Upping the rating on this one!

OK, now, to go run! Enjoy your Sunday everyone! :)

So tomorrow morning I am helping my coffee friend at Cartoon Network!! by taking video of him making them better coffee. I have to wake up soooo early and now I’m all excited to do something useful during my break.

I had this earlier before going off to a yelp holiday party, and I can’t say I’m a big fan. It came out super smoky and not very blueberry tasting. Definitely didn’t get any cream at all.

I don’t remember now what the water temperature was but I think I could drop it, but the steep was only 3 minutes. I’m glad I’ve given a lot of this away in swaps because it’s not my favorite. I’d rather have Blueberry Cream Cheese Danish.

I went back and forth on whether or not to get this tea for a long time, but as the stock started dwindling, I knew it was now or never – so I went for it. And lucky for me, now it’s sold out.

I LOVED Strawberry Zabaglione, so I thought I would give this a try. I cold brewed this as I knew a traditional steep wouldn’t work (strawberry zabaglione wasn’t great as a traditional brew either). As others have said, it’s not exactly as creamy as the strawberry version, but it’s definitely blueberry-y (is that word?). It depends on what you are looking for in a tea.

The black base is also a little more prominent here. It’s got a tad bit of astringency, even with a cold brew. It’s still great without sugar, but it doesn’t quite compare to the strawberry version. Overall, though, not a bad tea.

Oh… I am kicking myself for brewing up so many teas right now…. :S This sample is another from Azzrian – a blend I wanted to buy, but knew I shouldn’t at the time.

The aroma is pure, heavenly blueberry. My mouth is watering! I wish I had thought to grab the last of my Blueberry Cream Cheese Danish (also from Azzrian) to see how the two compare, but it’s definitely too late for that now. The flavour is simply a (very tasty) juicy blueberry black to me, though. I still don’t really know what zabaglione is, although I’ve gathered that creaminess is involved, and I can believe that there’s creaminess here taking the edge off of potential blueberry tartness, but that’s about it. The base tea here is slightly astringent and not overpowering yet present, which is just perfect.

I think I probably will still prefer DavidsTea’s Blueberry Jam for a blueberry black tea, even though the stevia sometimes tastes funny to me, but I’d have to do a comparison to be certain. Perhaps in the future!

Thanks again for (all the) sample(s), Azz!

ETA: Second infusion is pretty light on flavour, probably not worth it.

As luck would have it, I also ran across my sample of this gem from Azzrian, and am sipping it down as well! As others mentioned, it’s not quite at the level of blueberry cream cheese danish, but is still pretty juicily blueberry-flavoured. Just not as creamy/sweet.

Bye bye tasty tea!

Mmm, blueberries and cream. It’s as simple as that and I’m loving it. Not quite as creamy as Strawberry Zabaglione but the blueberry flavor is great. This would be awesome iced.

Coldbrewed for twelve hours and sweetened. AMAZING. The blueberry flavor comes out even more, it’s vibrant and sweet and maybe a little bit tart (in a pleasant way). Contrary to what I expected, the creaminess was more subdued but it was delicious nonetheless. Coldbrewing intensifies the blueberry flavor and makes this an incredibly refreshing iced tea. And now I try strawberry zabaglione iced!

mmmm so this tea… this tea makes up for my sad story with strawberry zabaglione :) in fact.. we were making chili and hamburgers in the kitchen and i opened the tea up…it cut through ALL of the smells and the other half who was in the other room holloared “woah..blueberry”

So that gives you a sense of the smell :) The taste is wonderful…it’s like a mouthful of blueberry goodness.

Backlog

I had this earlier in the evening but we’ve been doing some running around this evening to ikea for some much needed shelving. We rearranged the house again last weekend so we needed one more bookcase, since that’s where i keep my tea. :)

I’m still enjoying this one though it’s almost gone and likely won’t be a repurchase. I suspect i’ll try a cold brew with the last of it. :) still decent enough but there are better blueberry teas out there:)

I had this today in the afternoon and somehow managed to hit it just right in terms of brewing it at work. I’d forgotten how much i enjoy this blueberry tea from frank. Not astringent at all this afternoon – just a cup full of creamy blueberry!

Sipdown! 276….

Tried this cold brew with the last little bit that I had. It’s not too bad but overall I’m ok with this being gone from my cupboard. There are better blueberry teas that I love a lot more :)

Taste comparison!

Blueberry zabaglione vs blueberry creamcheese danish who will win!

First up, we’ve got BZ in this corner! An oldie but a relatively decent cup of tea in a pinch. Always trying to be as good as it’s sister tea – strawberry zabaglione!

blueberry taste? check
Creamy taste? mostly
restock in my cupboard? Nope.
astringent? check
better with a bit of sugar? check.

Cold Brew! wheee! So i have not one…not two but FIVE travel type mug things of tea on my desk at the moment. It’s great! Cold brewed this one last night to see how I like it. Only downside? It needs a bit of sweetner as a cold brew so i’ll have to go “borrow” some honey or something from downstairs to finish it off. Good times though, having fun cold brewing things :)

So this one time, I loved this way more than strawberry zabaglione. Azzrian fought for strawberry but no….I would not b persuaded!!!

Then I learned how to pay attention when brewing things. And now…. Now I see the error of my ways. Blueberry zabaglione….I loved you once, now I love you a little less.

I’m a little loopy tonight. Wheeeee!

Come home from a business trip tonight and was soooo happy that I had this cold brewing in the fridge. Had to go a whole day without tea! This is pretty darn nice as a cold brew.

I love love love Frank’s Blueberry. I enjoyed a pouch of Blueberry Cream Cheese Danish, and now I am happily sipping on my freshly opened pouch of Blueberry Zabaglione. The blueberry is so sweet, creamy and bright on the tongue without any tart bitterness. I hope another blueberry flavored black is in the works, as I don’t know what I’ll do to satisfy my cravings once this pouch is gone:(

I absolutely loved Frank’s Strawberry Zabaglione so when this was offered up as a reblend awhile back I pounced on it as fast as I could.

The smell of the tea reminds me of blueberry shortcake – very sweet, fruity and dessert-ish. The flavour is distinctly blueberry but there’s something more to it as well – there are sweet, almost creamy notes that make me think of vanilla. Like the strawberry version I bet this tea is great with milk, but I wanted to try it plain first to get a proper sense of the flavours.

1 tablespoon for 375 ml of water

The brewed tea aroma is a nice mixture of a smooth black tea and baked-goods blueberry.

Sourness in the flavour. Authentic but dilute blueberry taste. Very nice black tea compliment in the background. I’ve never had zabaglione so I can’t comment as to how well this tea captures the flavour.

A creaminess creeps into the flavour as the tea cools.

Will infuse this one for only 2-2.5 minutes in the future.

Rating: 74

Thanks to Sil for sharing this with me!

1.5 tablespoons for 375 ml

Authentic blueberry flavour carries through to the aftertaste. Slight creamy note. Delightful black tea tones in the background. Baked goods notes. Slight sour note.

Big thanks to Josie Jade for the sample of this!!

I wanted to love it because I’m a big fan of Davidstea Blueberry Jam, so I thought some kind of baked good notes would only add to my happiness with a blueberry tea.

Admission – I have no idea what zabaglione is, (SOME zabaglione? A zabaglione??) so maybe I don’t know what to look for in the notes of this blend, but I’m really only getting blueberry with a hint of something sweet in the background. Is it a decent blueberry tea? Sure! But it doesn’t really taste like cake or pastry or anything else that I imagine zabaglione must be.

I’d love to try the Blueberry Cream Cheese Danish one, that might be more my speed.

This was perfectly pleasant, but not mindblowing.
So far, Della Terra is the king of flavoured teas which all others need to bow down before!

This tea blend has only a few blueberries in the whole pouch, which was a little disappointing. The tea is a little bitter until sugar is added, and then it becomes a nice strong, blueberry cup. I almost didn’t add any milk, but oh once I did it became so delicious! Adding milk really perfects the flavor of this tea and brings out nice creamy notes and a fresh blueberry flavor. The blueberry flavor smells a little artificial, but the berry taste is nice enough. It’s the cream and hefty black tea that really makes this one a winner!

-Dry blend has medium size black tea leaves and a few blueberries.
-Dry leaves smell of strong black tea and sweet blueberries. Tea liquor aroma is of artificial blueberries.
-Tea liquor is a clear orange brown color with a shiny film on top.
-Soft whipped cream flavor with a strong blueberry malty finish.
-Best with milk and sweetener.
-Very good tea. Creamy with the sweetness of fresh blueberries.

This has been my iced tea for two days now. I love, love, love the blueberry flavor. It is perfect, and as an iced tea it’s very refreshing. I’m not as big a fan of the cream flavor. It isn’t bad. I just find myself wanting less of it and more of the blueberry. Guess I’m a blueberry purist. :)

OK. So, this is the tea that convinced me that there was such a thing as a great flavored black tea that wasn’t the ever popular Earl Gray. It’s also the tea that convinced me that I did actually like black tea very much, but I first had to learn brewing parameters that I liked. You see this was the first tea I had ever purchased from 52Teas (a couple years ago now ?) and when I first brewed it (boiling water, maybe 10 min?), I thought it was bitter and couldn’t reconcile the awful taste to the great reviews I was reading about 52Teas. Before this I thought that to make tea you just pour boiling water over the tea and let it steep the entire time you’re drinking it, but I kept reading about people taking their tea bags out after so many minutes and not letting their water hit boiling. So, I started experimenting with water temperature and steep time. And, when I got it right, the flavor just popped and there was no bitterness. It was the first time I realized that temperature and time really did matter for black tea. And, Blueberry Zabaglione became my favorite black tea. Still is one of my favorites. The creamy blueberry flavor is just really good and absolutely terrific iced. And, the flavors do not have the artificial aftertaste present in so many flavored teas. I’m so glad to see it reblended if only temporarily. So, I’m finally finishing the last of my first bag, which I had been hording :) It ages quite well by the way. Tastes just as delicious as I remember.

I received a sample of this in a swap with silvermage2000. Thank you so much for sending this one…..It is always so much fun to try one of 52 teas blends that I missed.

The blueberry is great. I found this one to be slightly less creamy and buttery than Blueberry Cream Cheese Danish, but now I must beg Frank for another blueberry tea! Please, Frank!

I’m feeling kind of out of it tonight so I took the chance and brewed up a black tea for the evening. I actually chose this because I saw Indigobloom’s review of Strawberry Zabaglione while my water was heating up. And it’s a good thing that I read it so I knew to keep the temp and steeping time down.

When you open the bag, it definitely shouts blueberry. That’s a good sign. The brewed tea maintains that strong scent. I was a little worried because it brought to mind that Disney tea I tried a few months ago, but I have more faith in Frank than that.

Plain, there is a bitterness that Indigobloom also notices in the Strawberry Zabaglione. Like her, I found that a half teaspoon of sugar solved that issue nicely. And a splash of milk adds to the creaminess of the flavour I think. I’m really enjoying this mug, and hopefully it will stand to another steeping. More importantly, I hope it keeps me going till I finish what I have to do and still lets me sleep tonight (finger crossed).

Thank you Momo! I’m going to attempt a sip down today. I have way too many samples and they’re building up.
This tea is delicious! I love the blueberries in it. It’s very sweet with berry taste. The blueberry flavor is very nice and not candy-like like I was expecting. Not as creamy as the strawberry but it is still delicious.

Just finished the last of my sample off! It was nice. Thanks again Momo!

Two listings for this tea on here… since this is the one onto which most people are logging, I figured I’d log here too. This tea is absolutely yum. The blueberries are huge and plump up big and juicy after infusing.

Delicious blueberry flavor, sweet, creamy background. Very nice.

YUM! I do love this tea.

Thank you Meghann M. for some of this to try. I drank a cup last night. Yes the blueberries are big. This is a very good tea the blueberries in this have just abit of tartness. The creaminess is nice and just the right amount. The black tea is there to and very nice. Thank you Meghann M. for letting me try this tea!

This tea is like a sweet buttery pastry !! I don’t normally add sugar to my tea. Milk, yes, but I usually like my teas unsweetened. This tea, however, really comes to life with milk and sugar.

This was a one cup sample that did not have freeze-dried blueberries but the scent is definitely there. I had Lupicia’s blueberry black tea this morning and the two are different. At first my impression was Lupicia had more blueberry but that is because it is one note. However, I did hope Blueberry Zab would be more creamy (I don’t know how old this sample is, so that may be a factor). The Strawberry Zab was more dessert-like and to my liking but I am glad for the sample.
