Watermelon Green Honeybush

Honeybush Tea by 52teas

This week’s tea of the week is a special treat. Here’s green honeybush with natural watermelon flavors. If the cold weather has you yearning for a taste of summer, here’s your chance. I’m enjoying a cup of this as I write this. The green honeybush base is soft and pleasant with light citrus notes. The watermelon is sweet; I can almost feel the juiciness of it.

This is the last of our green honeybush, so don’t miss out; this will be a limited edition blend!

I cold brewed this for approximately 24 hours. It tastes old, understandably. I think this was blended over a year ago. Also, I can no longer recall who sent this to me in a swap. I am so sorry! Whoever you are, thank you!

Aside from the aged leaf flavor, this is actually quite a tasty tisane. I think green rooibos is way better than red. I also think honeybush is way better than rooibos. So green honeybush? Way awesome! I think the base is a great accompaniment to the watermelon flavors. This isn’t the sweet red core of a watermelon, but the melon closer to the rind. Less sweet, but more refreshing. Either way, very watermelony. Exactly what I needed after tromping around town doing errands in hot humid weather.

I’m now considering Frank’s latest watermelon blend, but I think that one is a red honeybush. Hmm… It probably won’t be as refreshing. Naaah. I just got a sample size of David’s Tea’s Luscious Watermelon. Hopefully that one will be good enough to replace this tea. Frank certainly has the fresh watermelon flavoring down. I suspect David’s will be more candy-like, which I wouldn’t prefer, but we will see.

When I saw this I didn’t even stop think if I should or shouldn’t buy it. A force took me over and I just had to buy it. I am happy to say it was a wonderful decision. The scent out of the bag was of sweet watermelon and the smell after the steep was also a strong watermelon. After taking the first sip the flavor of watermelon was lacking in comparison to the smell both pre and post steep. Nevertheless, I truly am happy I purchased this. I enjoyed the essence of watermelon and for a brief moment I felt like it was spring time. Since am in Chicago the daydream; as a result of this tisane, was priceless. I suspect this would make an amazing iced tea. I will try some later.

Bumping up, this tastes amazing iced. It is perfectly watermelon! Gee, I really want spring to come.

Yay! This is so Yummy! This tastes just like sweet, juicy watermelon! And as good as it is to sip hot, I am betting it’s better iced!

This is AWESOME iced! I brewed up a pitcher of it last night for today, and wow!!! Refreshing, sweet, watermelon-y. YUMMMMMM!

Here is my full-length review of this one: http://sororiteasisters.com/2011/02/16/watermelon-green-honeybush-from-52teas/

I am having another cup of this before I put it away to save for summer, because I want to finish my review of it (which will publish sometime next month on the SororiTea Sisters blog: http://sororiteasisters.com) I’m also increasing my rating for this, because it is so good and it IS worthy of a raise!

This is really yummy!!! Sweet, juicy watermelon with just a hint of citrus in the background. Yum Yum Yum!

Oh, Watermelon Honeybush, where have you been my entire life?! Thanks to the lovely Meghann for splitting with some from her stash. I am in watermelon heaven!

This is summer in a cup! The leaves smell like fresh watermelon – like a natural flavor not artificial. Once brewed – and I steeped for at least eight minutes, although the bag is still in my cup – the watermelon smell becomes irresistible!

First sip tastes like a bite from a summer watermelon. OMG! This is summer in a cup. I never knew honeybush could be so pleasant; we have a sordid past, honeybush tea and rooibos, with me. But this tea erases the bad memories.

If you love watermelon, you need this tea. Bottom line. It’s a must! And it’s wonderful to taste summer in February. :)

2nd infusion. I actually left the teabag steeping for the entire length of me enjoying the cup. So this is more like a fifth infusion. ;)

Still watermelon-y. Still summer in a cup. A bit weaker than the first infusion, but since it steeped for almost 20 mins, I’ll let that pass.

I will be placing an order for this in the near future. And I’m glad I found a honeybush that I get along with! :)

So I was super excited to try this one it sounded so unique! And let me tell you it is worth it. Another tea that I really enjoyed from Frank, I must say that he has sold me on many teas!
When I opened up the package it smelled sort of like a green watermelon… one that is not quite ripe, it was sort of odd but I went with it. I steeped it and I wish that it said the amount of time to steep for on the package but this one doesn’t say so I steeped it for about 5 min.
The smell was juicy but still sort of unripe melons. When I tasted it hot it was like drinking watermelon it was really really good! But I decided that I wanted it iced so I added a bit of sugar and then poured it over ice, this is the way to drink this tea!
It was juicy and left my mouth watering! It is juicy and wonderful watermelon flavored even it was a bit unripened!

Thanks LiberTEAs!

This is a gently watermelon flavored green rooibos…quite tasty! I won’t fear kickin’ the watermelon flavor up a notch on this, there, Frank! LOL – Still a goodie tho!!! Both hot and cold! Tasty!

I got this in a sampler pack from iheartteas
It smells nicely sweet, a little like honey bush.
Once steeped it smells like real watermelon. I poured it over ice. It tastes slightly like watermelon, but more ‘green’ tasting. Overall it was alright, but not something I would buy.

I was a little freaked out by the smell of this one- I thought “Oh no, it’s just like my dentist’s fluoride!” BUT I was pleasantly surprised when I made a mug of this. I let it basically steep all morning in my tea travel mug, and it stayed mild and pleasant. I am not sure I get watermelon from it, but I’m not sure I don’t either. I really am having trouble pinning down the flavor other than to say it’s “lightly sweet” and will make a splendid iced tea (which is what I wanted anyway).

This came as one of my “Frank Really Messed Up The Inventory” teas, and I was quite pleased. I am really liking the honeybush, and this is one I’ve considered buying.

This is good, and definitely watermelon. However, I can see what another poster said about it being a kind of watermelon rind/raw watermelon taste. It’s still a nice taste, though it’s pretty mild and unassuming. I had a cup of this hot and let a glass cool to room temperature, and that was very nice. Still very mild, but very pleasant. I can see it being good on a hot day.

I think this is my favourite cold-brewed tea, and wish I could get more of it!

This is so good dumped in some cold water and allowed to sit for a couple hours. Incredibly refreshing.

Last night I put some of this in cold water as I felt like iced tea would be nice this morning. I ended up trying it only two hours later as it seemed so appealing, and it is! It was subtle but so fruity and crisp and refreshing. I think this will be an iced-only tea.

I agree that this is not a strong-tasting tisane. In fact, brewed, you might mistake it for some really pleasant-tasting brownish water. It really doesn’t taste of much, and I couldn’t smell the watermelon in the bag, in the tea, or in the brewed leaves. Honeybush is my friend in general, but this is the only time I’ve tried it green, and, well…maybe green honeybush HAS no flavor? I’m going to try this iced with some sugar next time and see if that brings out the flavor.

On the upside, it doesn’t have any unpleasant aspects.

This is delicious. I love it iced. It is sweet, watermelon, and refreshing. I’ve rationed this one out because I like it so much. Strangely, there is a chocolate element, which is great. I suppose people taste things differently.
