I received this sample from Camiah. Thank you so much for sharing!

What a fun tea! The warm, rich smell, the bready taste of the pancake, the hint of butter, the sweetness of the syrup – it is all delicious. I did two steepings from my sample, and they were both great. The first had more of the pancake flavor with the syrup begin most pronounced at the end of the sip. With the second cup the sweetness of the syrup was not as strong, but it was there at the beginning of the sip and constant throughout. Both cups were thoroughly enjoyed!

CHAroma

I agree the first steep of this is usually the best. And now it’s in the permanent collection so you can actually have more of it!!! Yay!!

Veronica

I didn’t know it was in the permanent collection. Thanks!

Has anyone tried this iced? I’m sure everyone is sick of my iced tea experiments, but this is definitely noteworthy. I thought it would be weird. A cold pancake iced tea? Huh. But actually, cold steeped, the black base calms down and the maple syrup is stronger. In general, I tend to find Frank’s black tea bases too domineering despite playing with the steeping parameters.

The maple syrup flavour isn’t just maple syrup though. It’s a melange of maple syrup, toffee, and vanilla syrup, but mostly maple. No cakey flavours but I like this the way it is.

Try it sometime!

I am wonder what mystical powers Frank has, or what magical process he submits his teas to, but this tea is spot on. Maple sweet and doughy. I’ve having my breakfast in the evening, and it’s so much fun! I’m having it unsweetened, but it is so pancake-y that it is actually as satisfying for my sweet tooth, as having the sugary item itself.

TeaEqualsBliss

I’ve been craving this tea and I don’t have any left :(

Ninavampi

I love this tea…… : )

TEB, I would gladly send you some of mine. I’m not sure how much is left in the pouch (and I am not at home at the moment). But I will check later on and PM if I have enough to make it worthwhile.

Also, this morning I saw that Frank has reblended this – there are only 3 pouches left available.

I just ordered this and looking forward to it!

I just wanted to thank keychange for sending me the rest of her package of this. My friend Meghanne was visiting me from Chicago for a long weekend and I made this tea (among others) for her. She really liked it a lot, maybe almost as much as I do.

I’m so glad it finally reached you!

This is another tea that came to me from iHeartTeas during her sell-off sale.

The first time I tried this tea I found it very underwhelming, so much so that I didn’t even bother to write a tasting note about it. Today I decided that it was going to be one of the two teas that I either sip-down or add to the traveling tea box that is on its way to me.

I wasn’t very satisfied with my results of the first cup today, it was slightly astringent and all I was able to taste was the very strong black base. I added a bit of rock sugar to see if I could temper the astringency that I didn’t care for and promptly forgot about my cup of tea. Hours later I came back to it and drank it at room temperature.

I’m still not so sure that I get pancakes from this, but the sugar helped draw out some of the flavors I’ve been missing. I’m just beginning to pick up hints of maple. I do think this is an ok breakfast tea, but I don’t care for the black base enough to drink it on a regular basis. I think I’ll add this one to the traveling tea box, I have a fair amount of it and I’m sure someone along the way will enjoy it much more than I have.

I would LOVE to try this one! I have been wanting to for some time now. I pray that he reblends it. I am sorry it wasn’t your thing.

I have been wanting to try this tea for forever, and KittyLovesTea was nice enough to send a sample with our swap (thank you!) The dry leaves smell strongly of butter and maple syrup, yum! I’m wondering if having this tea right before breakfast will make me want to whip up some pancakes for my morning meal? Ohh, this is good! There’s a nice bready/cake-like flavor mixed in with the black tea, and then a rich syrupy finish. And with all of that a thick, buttery smooth consistency. I’m not sure how all of that is possible in one little cup of tea, but there it is. This one definitely has me craving some fluffy pancakes now!

-Dry blend has medium black tea leaves and twigs with yellow petals.
-Dry leaves smell strongly of butter and maple syrup. Tea liquor aroma is of sugary maple syrup.
-Tea liquor is a clear dark brown color.
-Pastry and bready black tea flavor with a rich maple syrup finish. Buttery mouthfeel.
-Best with sweetener. Milk optional.
-Excellent tea. Reminiscent of warm buttery pancakes and maple syrup.

sorry sis but i drank ALL of the Pancake Breakfast myself!
i couldn’t help it!

this tea has some similar qualities to the ATR brioche, but with less almondness and more of maybe a buttery note. i don’t get too much maple from it myself but i do get a nice bready sweetness.

i haven’t had much luck with 52teas in the past, and took a kinda long break from trying them, but i’m starting to think that i just had bad luck and also that i was too inexperienced to know what i was tasting. i was seriously a newb.

so! a special thanks to Eva for swapping this with me and re-igniting my interest in 52teas.

OMG!!!! I get it!!! For the first time EVER, I taste the “bakery/pastery” or in this case pancake in a tea. I feel like I just had an major tea tasting breakthrough. This tastes like pancakes and maple syrup. (Maybe this is a good time to mention that I don’t really like pancakes).
Anyway, the maple part of this is really good, subtle not in your face. Nice. Pancakes aside, I still like this. It’s one of the better maple teas I’ve had.

Thank you JackieT for sending me this sample.

JustJames

man, you are tempting me! i have exceeded my tea budget and i promised myself no more until middle of july. no. NO! stop writing tempting reviews!

Dexter

Sorry. If it makes you feel any better, this isn’t currently for sale on their site anyway. No worries about breaking the budget.

JustJames

lol. what was it another steepster friend said a few days ago? ‘a website enabling budget breaking behaviour’. jeez. sad, but GLAD it isn’t available!

Dexter

LOL that’s funny, I like it. Five months ago I was happily living my life with about 10 DavidsTea/Teavana teas in my cupboard, didn’t know much about the tea world, and then I stumbled into this site. IT CHANGED EVERYTHING. Enabling – that’s what this site is.

Nxtdoor

Yeah. What she said :)

I’m on my second cup of the day now and this stuff is magical. It tastes like warm buttery pancakes dripping in maple syrup.

I’ve never really gotten the butter note in Franks other blends but it’s really strong here and goes well with the “cakeyness” of the pancakes and the sweetness of the maple. Even after sipping on this all evening I’m still amazed by how realistic it is. The balance between the flavoring and the tea is perfect.

The only thing that worries me about this one is the butter. I can’t stand butter on my pancakes.

QueenOfTarts

This note is very reassuring for the butter note! I also haven’t been able to taste any butter in some of the other blends, but I’m even more excited to try this tea! When I receive it, I think I’ll try boiling and steeping for about 3 minutes like you did here. :) Great review!

Thanks so much to Will Work for Tea for this sample. It tastes so much like pancakes. I have no idea how this is achieved. Reminds me of Eggo syrup. Mmmm <3.
