Marshmallow Treat Genmaicha

Green Tea by 52teas

Had some extra genmaicha (and a little bit of uji (matcha mixed with-) genmaicha that we blended together to create this awesome blend. Unfortunately, we didn’t have enough of anything to make it a tea of the week, so here’s a bonus blend (VERY LIMITED EDITION) for this week.

We’ve blended genmaicha (Japanese sencha (I got it before the earthquake, so no worries) blended with toasted rice) with mini marshmallows and natural flavors. This blend is going to go FAST, and we won’t be able to blend any more for a while, if we ever do, so DO NOT drag your feet about this one.

I missed this one the first time around. So I was thrilled to find it in my 12 Teas of Christmas box today! It smelled just like marshmallow treats….so much so that my husband thought I made some. :) I don’t know how Frank does it, but I’m glad he does. This one was spot on marshmallow treat for me. All the flavors were there and it was a total win! I need more…I mean I would like more please! :)

This blend is genius. Seriously. My husband saw me with a bag of tea with actual marshmallows in it and said “So have you officially given up on drinking real tea?” I had to explain that the marshmallows scared me at first too- but that this was genmaicha, and that the toastiness of the genmaicha (it has toasted rice in it) works remarkably well with the marshmallow. As I explained, he considered the notion and agreed that he could see how it might, just maybe work.

I love this one. It’s an utterly surprising blend- the sweet and the nutty/toasty genmaicha go really well together. The sweetness of the melted marshmallows really is very mild- I don’t sweeten my teas and it’s acceptable for me :) This is truly, truly creative. Bravo!

I’m a fan of genmaicha, and I had high hopes for this one based on all the rave reviews on here. I do like it, it is sweeter than straight genmaicha, but is it marshmallow? Almost, or at least that’s how I feel. I don’t think this is quite marshmallow enough for me. Or maybe it’s my uneducated palate that can’t quite pick it out. Either way, I’m happy to have tried it. Thanks JackieT for sending me this sample.

I have had many cups of this tea, but haven’t actually logged it yet. I had actually missed the original release of this tea and the reblend as well. I thought my chance to try it was gone, but thanks to the lovely Rachel Sincere, I was able to happily drink this blend.

In short, I don’t think that this tea is exactly like a marshmallow treat, but it is very, very yummy. What I notice first is the toasted rice against the green tea. I usually don’t like roasty teas, but this is the perfect amount. The green tea base is smooth and not too grassy. The initial toasty flavor changes into a wonderful sweetness… very much like a marshmallow in that it tastes almost like pure sugar. All it needs is that fluffy character and it’d be just like a marshmallow.

I think that this tea is one of 52Teas’ best. I hope that it pops back up on the website again in the future. Thank you, Rachel Sincere, for sharing this tea with me!

I have never been a big fan of rice crispy treats, but for some reason when I saw this available I had to get it. It smells delightful. I am still not very familiar with green teas and this is my first Genmaicha. It does taste a little like marshmallows, and I can taste the rice. I added about a teaspoon of sugar, and it is very pleasant. Not my favorite, or one I would rebuy, but I am glad I got to try it. I think my husband will love this one. I made this way too weak on Sunday and was sad because I bought a bag before I even got my 12 teas of Christmas set. Today though, I did it right. Awwww yeah.

I love genmaicha and I love marshmallow treats. It tastes exactly like that. Sweet, nutty, and delicious. I’m glad I got a bag because I am definitely going to want more. I think the rest of my sample will be used before I even get back to my apartment tomorrow afternoon!

It also has me wondering what if I made green tea marshmallows and then use them to make rice krispie treats…

This is my first from Frank and I was not disappointed. Got this on Friday when I came home from work and had to try it. Normally I stick to rooibos after work but I figured it was a Friday and a green so why not? Awesome tea! The marshmallow is subtle but there. I added some splenda to it and it was really good.

My only beef with the tea is that it didn’t come with brewing instructions. I rarely drink greens because I generally prefer bolder flavors so I had to look at the back of a Teavana blend for brewing instructions for green tea. As such, I’m not sure if I brewed it right, my marshmallows didn’t melt completely so I may have lost some flavor there.

Held up well for a second steep, probably could have done a third but I wanted to try my other new teas so I tossed it after the second.

I definitely oversteeped this one, but it was very forgiving! I like this one a lot but I think I might like the s’mores slightly more. It is basically a good genmaicha with a hint of marshmallowey sweetness :)

I received this in a swap with AlphaKitty, thanks! The dry smell is amazing. It smells like a light hint of marshmellow with a doughy kind of scent, which I attribute to the brown rice. I’ve never tried a genmaicha before and I didn’t even know what it was. All I know was that is said Marshmellow so I was excited. Brewed, the scent of the rice and the green tea stands out more to me than the marshmellow, which made me nervous. I don’t know how I felt about having rice in my tea. On first sip, it really is quite good. It sort of has an earthy flavor mixed with the light sweetness of marshmellow. I was pleasantly suprised by the rice taste. It’s soft and earthy without making me think of rice floating around in my tea :). Quite delicious. A nice, gentle dessert tea.

I have been wanting to try this for some time now. When it first came out back in April I thought “marshmallow in genmaicha?” I could not see it. Then I read the reviews and wanted to try it. I missed the xmas box, so when it was blended last week I jumped at the chance. Of course I did not read the difference in this blend from when it was first blended. No matcha or real marshmallows…..:(

I opened up the bag and it smelled great. I brewed it and the sent from my wabi sabi pot was nutty, which was great since I thought the marshmallow root would over power the brown rice. Then when I drank it I lost the nuttiness and got more vegetal green with vanilla….
Hmm..I might grow to like this, but I wished I would have had the original blend with the matcha and real marshmallows…:(

Having another cup of this. Maybe I should just add some matcha and real marshmallows to it.

I love the toasty flavour in this,, Having said that I’ve had a bad hangover and this is just the perfect thing to drink right now.. not too much for me. Perfect on it’s own..

Loved it last time, love it again.. had this with my sister this morning, it was delicious!! Unfortunately I was so tired I automatically put sugar in it… bad idea.. It really didn’t need the sugar, it’s better without.. but still all in all it was delicious and all gone! Only a little left of this!! nooo… :(

This is pretty nice. I think I expected more marshmallow flavor. I have a vanilla creamer that tastes like marshmallows, maybe I should add a dash of that.

Edit.
I am REALLY craving marshmallow treats now. Damnit, Frank.

Got this in the post this morning – very excited, especially afetr reading all the sparkling reviews it has.

Anyway, it has so many marshmallows in the mix, and I’m really tempted to eat them. But I won’, I will be good and save them for the tea. So, my cup has three little marshmallows in it and they are dissolving in the hot water very nicely. And this taste just like marshmallow treats! The first thing I taste is just the genmaicha, but then I get a more marshmallow-treat taste after that, which is quite sweet and really good.

Steeped in 10 oz. of water.
The dry leaf smells sweet and toasty at the same time, but also separate from each other, if that makes any sense. In other words, it smells like it looks, which is to say, genmaicha with marshmallows added.
As far as taste goes – it is really interesting!
I get the genmaicha on the front of the sip, and after it’s gone, there’s the marshmallow – it’s not sweet, really but it is marshmallow, none the less. If I added some sugar or sweetener this would be right on for a rice krispy treat. I’m impressed!

2 heaping tsp. tea to 500 ml. water at the below parameters in my Breville.

This is one of those teas that I tend to forget about, even though I really like it while I’m drinking it. It has just enough sweetness from the marshmallow to not need any other additives. It really is reminiscent of a rice krispy treat – albeit a slightly vegetal one.

I really do need to remember to have this one more often – it is a great option for a dessert tea!

2.5 tsp. in 500 ml. water in my Breville.

I wanted a lighter tea this morning, and it’s been a while since I’ve had a green so I picked this out. The tea is divided today; I get the marshmallow more in the scent and the roasted rice part in the taste (it pretty much tastes like a regular genmaicha, in other words). I’m pairing it with something sweet (October Snickerdoodles, I have called them, since I rolled them in Pumpkin Pie spice instead of cinnamon) so I don’t mind.

This is a smooth genmaicha, even though I was worried about the steeping time being kind of long it didn’t affect the tea negatively. A nice light tea that will get me going today.

Cold brewed 3 tsp. in 750 ml. water for 20 hours. Tried at 9 hours but it was still too light so I left it overnight.

This is very tasty cold brewed – but not sweet at all, though I should definitely have expected that, as marshmallows don’t melt in cold water. (Not my smartest moment). Since the taste was affected but it was my fault, I won’t detract from the ratings. In fact, I compensated by having it to drink with a peanut butter and marshmallow sandwich, where it paired REALLY well. Plus I didn’t need to sweeten it! I love when I can drink a tea with no sweetener!

I’ll probably stick to keeping this brewed hot so I can taste the rice krispy treat that it is named for, but it was a fun experiment none the less. :)

This is the first tea I have been able to taste in almost two weeks! I had sinus surgery and just got the packing out that was preventing me from smelling and tasting. I came home and opened up a few of the new teas I got and was able to smell them for the first time! This tea won the sniff test of what I was going to drink first.

When I smell the dry tea, I’m hit by a huge sweet smell that I can imagine being the marshmallow part of the treats. I taste the toasted rice flavor when I sip the tea, but don’t get a sweet flavor translating from that sweet smell. Adding a little sugar really completes the taste, bringing out more of the marshmallow flavor for me. This is a really fun tea! I can see why so many people love it!

First the smell of the dry tea alone is amazing. It smells like sweet marshmallowy goodness and the roasted rice gives it the perfect toast smell to it. I got the most recent reblended version of this so I was really excited that I would get to try it :-)

Oh wow this is amazing. I wish this was on the permanent list on 52teas I would buy it all the time! The combination of marshmallow root and the roasted rice is perfect I am surprised more companies haven’t tried making this before. But that’s what makes Frank great, he makes blends other companies don’t even think of.

I am sipping this cuppa as I write this and I just can’t get over how good this is. Yum!
Bravo Frank!

So sad this is my last cup of this…. :-(

Vegan!
Great flavor. This is what Genmaicha should always taste like. Love the real marshmallow root. This is sweet, smooth with a hint of vanilla. Yum

Delicious! Today (although it’s only Monday) was my Friday, since I have the next two days off. Usually that makes for an especially long and tedious day, however, this was the perfect tea to energize me and calm my nerves with it’s perfectly-balanced sweet demeanor. It cheered me up and allowed me make it through! It has a toasted quality that I assume is because of the Genmaicha, and the marshmallows complement divinely. A most intriguing concoction and wonderful addition to the 12 days of christmas lineup! So far they’ve all been a hit!

I have one thing to say about this tea: Wow. I have the vegan version and as soon as I opened the package my mouth started watering from the sweet marshmallow scent. After steeping it, I must say it is super delicious. It’s naturally sweet and really smooth. I love it! 52teas should add this to the permanent collection.

I just received this yesterday. This is my first steeping and it is amazing! I have never had genmaicha before so the whole thing was an adventure. The smell of the leaves is very nice and the brewed tea is very much a toasted brew! I knocked off a few points for being less marshmallow-y than what I expected, but I will continue to play with the temperature and amount of tea.

How I still have some of this tea left is a mystery! I’ve mostly been squirling this away for special occasions. This tea has such a comforting smell in-bag. The itsy-bitsy popcorn pieces are too cute!
This was one of my very first flavored teas and will always remain on my list of favorites. I just wish I could get my hands on more!

wow, I don’t know what happened the past week but tons of teas are being eliminated from my stock! This is the next to go! I’m realizing that I’m going to be left drinking a lot of unflavored teas if this keeps going that way. I have a lot of samples lying around that I need to finish off as well!
This was part of my very first order to 52 teas. I’ve enjoyed it so much! This is the vegan version, so there was a lot less marshmallow flavor then I expected. It did have this amazingly large pieces of mallow root (correct?) in it that were fantastic to brew. This was also my very first genmaicha.
Since then I’ve totally fallen in love with it! The rice bits add a lot of fun to the flavor.
I’ve really loved this tea and I hope that at some point they bring it back! This tea is mellow and the base is a really clear addition to the flavor that really provides a solid base to the rest of the tea. I loved this tea and I’m sad to see it go!

The smell of this takes me back. I remember when I first got this and really had no idea how to brew it. Now, it has become a favorite of mine and I’m sitting with one my very last cups of this. I love the rice bits in this and the mellowness of the green tea. Lovely and will be missed!

mmm I have been rationing this tea. Mine is the vegan version but the mallow-ness still stands out in this blend. I think this is a great after meal tea. After trying this tea I loved genmaicha in general. I think this should be another tea that should be in the permanent stock. wink wink :p
