Date Nut Muffin Rooibos

Herbal Rooibos Blend by 52teas

Here’s our caffeine-free African rooibos, blended with sweet, dried dates, walnuts and natural flavors, including a touch of natural butter flavor (just a little pat on your muffin)–and yes, this tea is still 100% vegan.

Special Thanks to Liberteas for this one!
This is VERY YUMMY!
The dates are amazing! They are HUGE! There is even that lil bit of muffin-likeness. Yes, you can still taste the rooibos but they all seem to work well, at least my palate seems to think so! It might not work for everyone but it works for me! It’s also a little nutty (but aren’t we all?) It’s YUMMERS!

Ok so I have no idea what dates taste like. All I know is they are good for sweetening stuff and they grow on some kind of palm tree.

So I was kind of meh about getting this tea in my grab bag, but it smelled good so I wasn’t going to give up on it without trying it.

It’s actually really good. It’s more walnut tasting, and the dates make it sweet. I’ve also never had walnut in tea before, and I really like it. Given my hatred of almond in tea, I am glad to find this out. Not really getting anything buttery.

I guess there is a nice fruitiness from the dates too. But I really have no idea what they taste like! If this is any indication I might have to try one.

Thanks so much for the sample Kittenna!
Date nut muffin… interesting. I’m not sure where I stand on this. I keep flipping between hate and meh!
I think it’s that the flavour and scent reminds me of Monk’s Blend, which I severely disliked, but it’s not entirely the same so I am wavering on that stand.
Also, it’s a little flower-like, which I find doesn’t go all that well with a rooibos. IMHO.
Milk and agave spruced it up a bit, but I’m still having trouble getting through the cuppa. Oh well. Another 52teas check off my list! thanks again Kittenna :)

Oh, Yum!
Smells like toasted nuts and dates.
Cozy, tasty and SO GOOD!
A bit of a agave aftertaste.
Nice red color.
The only problem with this tea is it makes me hungry;)
Thank you, TeaEqualsBliss
This is also my first 52 Teas Brand tea

I was a little wary when I first opened my bag of Date Nut Muffin Rooibos because the aroma wasn’t enticing me at all. As weird as it sounds, I always fear my rooibos having that weird aftertaste that can only really be described as “rooibosy” and I thought I smelled some indication of that in this blend.

BUT I was wrong, wrong, wrong, so blissfully wrong! There is no weird “rooibosy” aftertaste in Date Nut Muffin Rooibos. This blend features a genuinely tasty combination of cinnamon, dates, and walnuts that makes for a convincing muffin(esque) flavor. I’m likin’ it!

P.S. How are my fellow Steepsters doing? I’m going to get my act together and start logging on regularly again because I miss my fellow tea-fiends!

Thanks momo for this one! I really appreciate being able to try all these teas! I have been on a roll with teas I really really have loved lately. This one is so good. The rooibos is perfect with dates and walnuts. The dates are sweet and the walnuts are toasty. Really, I can’t think of a better combination! It does taste like a muffin, especially since I CAN taste that bit of butter flavor! I do wish the flavors were a bit stronger, but it’s much better than it could have been. Tasting this one, I don’t think I’ve had a rooibos in a while and I must have missed them!

First steep: 5 min. with water very cooled — flavor was perfect
Second steep: 10 min with just boiled water — barely had any flavor other than the rooibos

I do like dates. Back in my vegan days I got into snacking on mejool dates, which I still do today, when they are on sale. I do like baked date goods, but not over the top sweet.

This sample comes from Kittena, ty!

DRY: oooh, a hunk of date in here!

STEEPED: sweet datey smell. Reddy brown tea.

TASTE: sweet dried fruit taste, a little walnutty skin taste and buttery flavoring up front. The buttery taste is quite different from other buttery tastes I’ve had, it’s not like a buttery green tea, but a butteryness that hits the whole mouth and top of the mouth. I dunno, it tastes like flavoring, but not awful fake popcorn flavoring.
The rooibos is pretty backburner here and I can enjoy the date muffiness with rooibos being complimentary. I’m thinking dates and rooibos = good mix.

Sweetened, it’s much closer to date taste as dates are pretty sweet. However, I like this tea unsweetened to enjoy the nutty flavor.

COMMENTS: I love the butteryness in this tea – I’m one of those awful eaters that add butter to my muffins. This is pretty good, but I’d love MOAR walnut! I like this tea, but thinking of it having more walnuts makes me disappointed, if that makes sense.

Infused for 8 minutes

Aroma of the tea has a fruity punchy-ness to it. I am reminded of the smell of baking dough. I can also detect a fresh-muffin scent in the background. Maple sweetness.

The tea is rather thin tasting. Watery on the sip and then blooms into maple sweetness with a hint of bakey muffin taste.

It is possible that this tea lost some of its flavour in transit.

I Feel like this would be a pretty good blend for those who enjoy dates. Frank has done a great job here of blending the flavours. This isn’t my favourite but I’m happy to cross another 52 tea off my list.

Thanks to kittenna for this one, not quite a sip down as I have some saved for a small cup for when I’m no longer sick. However, sickbuds tell me that while this isn’t a bad cup of tea, its not my favourite. I’m getting the date taste but its nothing that screams! Omg why hasn’t frank brought this one back! :)

SIPDOWN! Not a bad tea and i’m happy to have been able to try this. It’s nothing i desperately need to have in my cupboard but it was an enjoyable tea to try.

This initially smelled a bit play-doughy to me, like some other not-great teas have smelled in the past. My cooled cup from last night tastes much the same, blech. The re-steep is moderately better, but still not very tasty to me. I wonder if it’s an age thing?

Anyways, I’ll try this again sometime and see if it improves. Perhaps I just don’t like dates in tea?? At least the rooibos isn’t particularly medicinal…

This tisane is delightful! I love rooibos, even more than honeybush actually.
That characteristic rooibos flavor, often described as woodsy, is very pleasant to me.
Many flavors go well with rooibos, but most cover up that rooibos-y taste. While that may be preferable to those less enamored of rooibos, but not so for me. I want the flavoring to leave room for the rooibos.

That’s this tisane. The subtly sweet date flavor here compliments the rooibos so well, both prominent without masking the other. The walnuts are welcome added note.

Very good!

Backlog. 19 days ago, last Monday night.

When I’m having a cup of tea quite late at night,
I find Date Nut Muffin is quite often just right. ;)

2nd steep: 14 mins.

Backlogging. 9 days ago. Friday late night.

The February Backlog: From the 1st to today.

Before bedtime cup. Prolly while online. Drank the second steep in the morning, I believe.

Backlogging. 2 days ago. Tuesday night.

2 mugs while studying. Thought drank half of the second steep cold the following morning. Even though I only have slightly less than half of this left, I’m already starting to hoard it a bit. It might be my fave 52teas blend, but I don’t think it’s one they’ll ever reblend.

I cannot believe I haven’t had this since I decided not to put the massive backlog into Steepster and it’s not in my cupboard on here. [edit: Apparently, I have logged this tisane on Steepster. I just forgot to add it to my cupboard.] This is one of my favorite herbal creations that I’ve had from 52 Teas. I love love love and hearts it.

It tastes like a date nut muffin and is eminently drinkable. I usually finish my first cup before I even notice I have.

2nd steep: 12 mins.

I had high hopes for this one, because the fragrance wafting up from my mug is amazing – it smells like freshly baked muffins. And when I read teataku’s tasting note stating that this tisane reminded her of cucidati (Italian fig cookie) I got really excited because those are favorites of mine.

Unfortunately, this tisane just isn’t working for me. It’s the rooibos. The rooibos just isn’t working for me.

The other flavors ARE there … and this tisane does deliver what it says it will. I can taste the date and the nut and the muffin and even the touch of butter. But the rooibos just isn’t working for me with all these other flavors. Perhaps this would be better if it had an Assam base? I don’t know.

How are there no reviews for this one yet? Ida thought people would be jumping to try datey muffins. Anyway, I was. I actually think this manages to taste quite a bit like a muffin, which is to say if you think of the way the batter tastes, this is quite spot on. It has little nuts in the mix too, which is just cute. I missed my Rooibos while I was in Japan, the land of green tea over the summer, and it’s absolutely too cold in this library I’m writing from so tea is just what I need. I’m snuggling my travel mug like a heat blanket.

Anyway, this is actually a rather nice autumnal one. Sweet like dates, with that muffiny component. Not too nutty tasting, but decent nonetheless. I think this would combine really well with other teas too for a unique cocktailing experience. Something of the backdrop reminds me of my beloved cinnamon raisin toast tea, but without the smokey “burnt tea” note that the black tea adds to that one.

This one is growing on me a lot. I can enjoy my beloved cinnamon raisin toast tea at night now because this tastes a lot like it, but has no caffeine! I just love this date flavor, and the little nuts in the tea bag. A great evening tea, especially with a cookie.

Hmm. I’m not currently sure what to think of this. The loose tea smells pretty good, a little fruitier and less muffin-y than I was expecting.

The liquor doesn’t taste so much like a date muffin as it does those Italian fig cookies you can get at specialty grocery stores (and your grandmother’s kitchen). They’re delicious, don’t get me wrong, and I suppose dates do sort of taste like figs, and vice versa. However, I like my muffins. I wish this had a little cinnamon, or some other sort of baking spice. I like the walnuts okay, but they didn’t do for the tea what I thought they would do.

It’s possible I didn’t steep it long enough. I normally steep rooibos for at least 5 minutes, usually longer, but this time I got impatient and only steeped it for 3-4 minutes. Perhaps giving the rooibos more time to steep would have filled the gap in the flavors that I experienced. Not a bad tea overall, but on this my first try, not a total success either.

So I decided to give this one a second try, but this time I blended it with Teavana’s Rooibos Peach Bloom. I figured that the peach cobbler-y-ness of Teavana’s tea would go well with the muffin-y-ness of this tea. I mixed them in equal parts, 1 tsp. each.

Well… hmm. How do I say this? Between the smell and the taste, I really didn’t get much of the Rooibos Peach Bloom, so I wouldn’t call it a successful blend… but somehow, the result was all right nonetheless. I’ll be tinkering with these two teas in the future, because I did like the overall outcome.
