Graveyard Mist

Green Tea by 52teas

Have you ever stopped to enjoy the cool quiet of an old cemetery on a fall evening? Ever stayed to watch the evening mist roll in? Maybe stayed overnight on a dare and found yourself waking in the wet grass to the vision of sunlight slipping through the vanishing mist?

Me either, but that’s kind of what this tea reminds me of.

Part Chinese sencha, part Yun Wu (Cloud Mist), with marshmallow root, spearmint and natural marshmallow, spearmint and a hint of malt flavors, this is a smooth, silky experience with the sweet pique of spearmint subdued and made ghost-like–subtle, but haunting.

This tea smells heavenly, very minty with an almost creaminess to it. The flavor is really good also, it is very sweet on its own and I am always happy to discover a new tea with that quality. (I’m a true Southerner – I love my tea very sweet and add sweetener to almost every tea). What struck me most about this tea is that it has a smoothness to it, that reminds me a little of Mandarin Silk from the Persimmon Tree Tea Company.

-Dry leaves are long and wiry with fluffy marshmallow root.
-Dry leaves smell very minty and sweetly of vanilla. Tea liquor aroma is of warm, sugary vanilla.
-Tea liquor is a clear yellow-green color.
-Clean and refreshing minty flavor with a sweet finish.
-Best with a small amount of sweetener.
-Very good tea. Almost sweet enough without additional sweetener. Smooth mouthfeel.

I find the name of this tea a bit misleading as it doesn’t make me think of a spooky graveyard so much as a misty forest in the early morning. The combo of mint and green tea gives the blend a fresh, woodsy taste that’s smoothed out by the marshmallow. I’m glad I bought a full pouch of this tea.

I finally got my order, this with 2 others.
I love the smell of the dry leaves. Minty and marshmallowey mmmmm yum!
Eeeee as it steels it smells a little funky.
The taste is a sweet spearmint flavour, with a touch of creamy marshmallow goodness. And then it follows up with a delicious green tea base.
I’m not positive on how I feel about it, entirely. I like it, but its strange.

This smells and tastes exactly as I imagined it! And it is lovely. I steeped for 2:30 and it is nicely flavoured without being bitter at all. I need to try these parameters with sun and cloud mist to see if it eliminates the slight bitterness I got at a 3 min steep.

This was just the thing for me tonight. I had a bit of a tummy ache after too many sour gummies (my weakness!) and spearmint, green tea and marshmallow root sounded perfect. Normally I would have been tempted to add a 1/2 tsp of sugar, but I am drinking it plain tonight because of my aforementioned overindulgence. It has a nice natural sweetness from the spearmint, and a really nice overall light and airy feeling to it. I don’t usually love mint, but it’s really well balanced in this blend.

I’m so glad to be all caught up with my tasting notes for 12 teas! Now on to backlogging a few things I’ve tried over the past couple of weeks.

Day six (half way through!!)

I’ve been thinking that most of these packets smell like bubblegum and I thought this tea was a bubblegum blend from the aroma, but it must be the marshmallow root ingredient.

Minty things are a hit and miss for me. I love eating whole mint leaves most of all but candied mints are items I’d rather pass up. Mint is also something I don’t seek out unless I’m feeling under the weather or I want something to clean my palate. I undoubtedly have preconceived biases towards this spearmint gum tea.

I made this tea almost an hour ago but I left it take a call from my Grandma. I haven’t seen her in a month so I’m excited to be able to visit her soon. That call was probably the best thing for this, now warm, tea.

It has a lovely fresh spongy texture, like dew covered moss. The spearmint and green leaves aren’t too extreme with only mild nippy greenness. The creamy vanilla bubblegum flavours, from the marshmallow root, are what draw the attention. I’m so glad this isn’t dominantly mint- merely a “mist” of it! There’s only a little bit of that crusty clean flossy feel. The result is a very mellow but moist, cozy tea that I’m very pleased to be able to enjoy on this cold, damp evening.

Today has not been the best. The power cut out in the kitchen and bathroom last night in this crummy basement, and my roommate and I don’t have access to the power box. It sucks because I just bought groceries and it doesn’t look like our landlord is going to respond anytime soon (another five days). At least the rent is somewhat cheap, I guess.

I think my roommate and I are going to get a portable gas stove in an attempt to cook our meat, rice, and kimchi before it goes bad. It will be a feast of sorts, which could be fun. The new carton of milk also needs to go- a perfect excuse to have a lot of chai tea (it’s going to be an unhealthy night).

I’m finishing off the rest of this today and I think I will miss it a bit. I started off not liking the samples from 52teas but there is something comforting in all that marshmallow root and flavoring. They’ll forever remind me of Christmas and relaxing, full-power times.

I used 1.5 tablespoons for 375ml of water.

The aroma of the brewed tea is fresh mint.

Complex flavour profile. Sweetness throughout. Mint is in the background. Roasted green tea taste is detectable but not a significant part of the main profile. A slight bitterness in the aftertaste. The marshmallow is a very nice match for the spearmint and gives the mint a softer, sweeter edge. The taste reminds me of fresh morning dew.

Light, fresh, fog-mist-like aftertaste.

Second infusion for 4 minutes still has enough marshmallow-mint flavour to be enjoyable. The roasted green tea taste is also allowed to come through more.

Thank you to Ellyn for this tea!

I used 1.25 tablespoons of dry leaf for 375ml of water.

I’m getting a good balance of smoky-roasted green flavour, mint and marshmallow root sweetness. There is a light airiness to the flavour. The immediate aftertaste is delightful.

As the tea cools, I am detecting hints of creaminess and slight heaviness near the end of the sip.

This is my first 52teas! I was very excited to receive the package. When it came yesterday I knew it had to be first on the list of teas for today.

I love the marshmallow minty flavor that just kinda melds into the green tea base.

The green tea flavors are really delicate and do not overpower the minty mellow goodness!!! By mouthfeel I can tell this is not a herbal.

I LOVE THIS TEA! I can’t wait to try other 52 teas!

thank you kallieboo for a sample of this one! I’ve got a bunch of tasting notes to catch up on since i got distracted organising my itunes and backing up my computer. Lots of silly things that i’ve been doing today.

This one isn’t bad. I’m not as in love with it as a number of people are, but it’s nice to finally try this. I like the marshmallow/mint combination.

SIPDOWN!(274) I’m still trying to make sure i get at least one sipdown a day to help get my cupboard to a manageable state so that i can do more swaps and try more of ALL THE TEA! I quiet enjoyed this one from me swap with kallieboo, though it’s not something i need to have in my cupboard or love like some others do :) still though, the base is smooth and complements the minty marshmallow goodness well.

Gah! Marshmallow root needs to be in all the things! Also, thanks jessiwrites for being awesome as usual, as sending me this to try out :)

This tea I’m really enjoying. The green base is light, great for an evening tea and the spearmint complements it nicely. The marshmallow root adds a great flavour that’s ever so subtle but does amazing things for the tea (just like White Christmas). I’m thrilled I’ve got enough for a couple more cups.

Second steep still yummy!

I didn’t really know what to expect from this tea but I like it. It’s sweet, minty, and delicious. I’m glad I ordered some :)

Its been a few days since I’ve been able to post. Just so busy!

This graveyard mist is awesome. Great blend of marshmellow and spearmint. It really hits the spot. Thanks Ellyn for sending this one over to me :-)

Huh, okay. I didn’t hear my phone alarm because it was too quiet and oversteeped this… and it reaally does not like to be oversteeped – whoa, bitter! Still, I am going to try again because when I saw it come up again and again on the 52teas 12 days of christmas set I KNEW IT HAD TO BE MIIIINE. Smells so good dry. Kinda bubble-gum-y, a bit. Nom nom. So yeah, cold steeping would probably be really good too.

Anyone have a good temp/time mix?

I still can’t decide on a rating but omg SO MUCH BETTER with the temp/steep time advice, thanks guys! This has a real creaminess with the mallow root & nom nom nom spearmint, it’s so good! I expect a bit of sweetness to come in with that creaminess but no, there’s STILL a hint of bitter. It’s just a hint but I haven’t decided how much/if that bothers me. I think it normally wouldn’t but I’m getting flashbacks to that first fuckup cup /o\

Might add a teensy bit of sugar next time.

I completely forgot I had this in my cupboard. I received a sample of Graveyard Mist in a swap awhile back. I forget who sent it, but Thank You!

While steeping it smells like mint and marshmallows- I’m definitely intrigued! I’m not a huge Sencha fan, but this was surprisingly tasty! I normally don’t care for mint teas but this one made me smile. It has just enough sweetness to compliment the mint. I understand what all the hype was about. I can see this becoming a staple in my cupboard.

Wow. I’m completely blown away by this tea. It’s like the liquid form of a cool eerie fall morning. Not to mention that the weather outside right now is overcast and misty. The combination of which is perfectly haunting. I’m seriously loving it.

Yum, yum, yum.

I think I prefer White Christmas, but I am loving this blend, as well. It’s a bit sweeter, since it has spearmint instead of peppermint, but the mint is still a subtle, refreshing flavor. It does have the same wonderful creaminess that White Christmas has, and I am a fan of the green tea base.

The only sad part about these lovely 52teas blends is that I can’t order them whenever I want them. Pout.

I’ve been drinking comfort teas a lot this past week, and this has become one of them. It’s so sweet but refreshing and light all at the same time. Such a unique tea, I love these mint / marshmallow root blends from 52teas. I think I will go have some more, because it resteeps beautifully.

Backlog:

I really wanted to love this tea because of the name. My husband loves it. To me, it’s another novelty flavor that hardly tastes like tea at all. It’s fun and pleasant to drink, but my cravings are usually aimed towards tea (and flavored teas so long as the tea isn’t lost to the flavors).

This tea tastes like a melted stick of chewing gum. The marshmallow gives it that gummy-like texture. Unlike the 52teas Lime Jello Salad tea, I could see myself drinking this tea again, but not too often.

So it finally happened.. The one thing I have been dreading this entire 12 Teas of Christmas experience… a mint tea has appeared. I was so disappointed when I opened this. I am allergic to mint :(

So I gave it to my BF who drank it iced and here’s what he had to say:

“Too much spearmint. Needs chocolate. It’s ok.. 3 stars out of 5”

Sorry I couldn’t drag any more words out of him about this tea. I’m also sorry about the low rating because I’m sure this is a great tea (as all of the other ones have been so far). I’m just going to rate it off of his ‘3 stars’ comment.

On the sixth day of Christmas, 52 Teas gave to me…Graveyard Mist!

This is one of the teas I’ve been wanting to try desperately, but which I only found out about after it was sold out. Cue much excitement, then, as I opened the sachet and discovered what it was!

I LOVE the smell. It’s cool and fresh, and it does make me think of a graveyard, strangely, either in the early morning or very late at night. Spearmint is the dominant scent, but there’s also a delicate sweetness from the marshmallow root.

To taste, much the same applies. The dominant note is again spearmint, but there’s a definite sweetness, stronger than I was expecting, from the marshmallow root. There’s also a hint of bitterness from the green tea base, but I have a feeling that might be my fault. I think the water was perhaps a bit too hot still when I added the tea. I don’t mind it at all, though; I actually think it complements the other flavours a little, and cuts through the sweetness of the mint and marshmallow root. I’ll be a little more careful next time, though, because I’d like to know whether that’s really the case or not.

I’m finding this an interesting tea, with an imaginative selection of ingredients. It’s very atmospheric, to say the least — perfect for this time of year!

I guess I like greens more than I thought.

I definitely don’t get toothpaste. It tastes creamy and marshmallowy up front with mint in the background, it doesn’t smack me in the face with mint like smelling the dry tea does. after I smelling it I was dreading acually tasting it. Spearmint is my least favorite of the mint family.

Related: I asked for them to draw me a picture of a dinosaur and send it with the tea. He totally did! A dinosaur drinking tea and eating a cookie. Well, it could be a scone, but in my perfect world, scones are triangular and cookies are round, so its a cookie. That made my day. :D

I’m updating this review allready. I liked it so much I decided to go for a whole pot at about 2AM.

Like I stated before, this tastes creamy and marshmallowy up front with mint in the background, but that description really doesn’t do it justice. The mint in it is really just enough to taste in the background and cool your mouth on the exhale. The creamyness of the tea is really the star player, which is neat becuase I never understood what people meant when their reviews called a tea creamy, I totally get it now.

This tea is also pleasantly sweet without adding anything to it, in fact, I think adding sweetener to it would throw it off and make it taste like liquefied toothpaste (Isn’t that what mouthwash is? Maybe? I don’t know, I’m sleepy). I totally get where it gets its name from. It justs tastes like something you would drink if you wanted to go and goth out in a cemetery somewhere. It makes me want to go and goth out in a cemetery somewhere. I guess I know what I’m doing tonight.

The tea when brewed doesn’t kill my senses with mint like smelling the stuff dry does. Seriously you guys, this tea smells really bad when dry. Spearmint is my least favorite of the mint family, it reminds me of toothpaste. With this blend I definitely don’t get toothpaste like other reviewers had reported tasting. Thank God.
