Pina Colada Honeybush

Fruit Herbal Honeybush Blend by 52teas

Sweet African honeybush appears to be MADE for tropical flavors. Combine it with dried pineapple, unsweetened coconut flakes and a touch of rum flavor, and you’ve got a tea so soothing, relaxing and pleasing to the senses, that, like I wrote on the label, you ought to be required to sip it from a hammock on the beach.

  • This tea won 3rd place in the Flavored Herbal Teas category at the 2010 North American Tea Championships! **

I am one of those people that actually prefer rooibos over honeybush, woodsy taste and all. That said, this honeybush is VERY GOOD. I drank it hot, but now I’m thinking I need to make a huge pitcher of this iced. Should be awesome.

Thanks to Meghann M I had a fantastic mail day! Samples of different 52teas!! This definitely makes a Monday brighter. After sniffing each bag, I finally decided on trying this one.

Oh, sweet baby jeebus, is this good. Pineapple, coconut, rum, sweet, tasty. Just like a pina colada should be. I had it hot tonight (brewed for 10 minutes), but will definitely be trying it iced!

I’ve only one complaint about this tea: it’s non-alcoholic, and I’ve no rum to put in it.

Inspired by MeghannM, I’m steeping the last pot of this from the 12 teas of Christmas sampler at 5 minutes. It’ll likely be my last pot of the night…school has already been called off for tomorrow, and there’s a merlot in the fridge with my name on it.

At 5 minutes, I do taste a bit more of the rum and coconut flavors. I’m undecided as to which steep I like better, but I think this one might just be winning out. Yum!!

Oh, and just so you know, I’m about to post today’s tea of the day. So, in case you’ve not looked in your little pack o’ tea yet…well, I’m about to spoil the surprise!

ETA: yup, I like this better at 5 minutes!!

Oh, I do love this blend. It’s almost identical to a real pina colada: pineapple, coconut, all in a warm rooibos base! All I need is some rum. Must remember to get some rum…

This is the last of my sample from Meghann M. I am rather sad to see it go (and very well may resteep the leaves to wring the most out of it).

It’s just simply lovely.

Tried a sample of this tea today. I liked it. It sort of reminded me of coffee. I did not really taste the tropical notes, but overall a good tea.

This is more like it.

In my first cup the flavours tasted a touch artificial, and there was a lot of dryness in my mouth, however since then I’ve splashed the dry leaves with cold water before adding the boiling and it seems to clear those issues right up (well, there’s still a little dryness, but I think that’s a honeybush/rooibos thing.)

Not quite at the level of TeaNoir’s Bangkok, but unlike most it’s at least playing in the same (Premier) league and will help stretch that precious last 2 ounces a bit further.

Edit: Chris has decided it sounds like a Bond Girl’s name and is now doing Sean Connery impersonations. My day is complete.

I’m surprised to see this tea hasn’t been logged/commented on more. This is the tea I am thinking of entering into the World Tea Championships next year. It is truly spectacular.

I just spent $150 that I REALLY don’t have to enter this tea into the North American Tea Championships. I could only (not) afford to enter one tea. I hope I picked the right one and that my partner doesn’t kill me for doing it. (I would have stewed about it all year if I hadn’t done it.)

Absolutely heavenly iced. I had it hot with a splash of cream. The coconut is the real star here, transforming plain old rooibos into a base for something delectably delicious.

Had this hot with soy milk and sugar. Mmm…delicious. (My delivery food was 2 hours late, so I’m all out of adjectives today.)

Slurp. I’m not a tisane drinker by any means. I’m no great fan of rooibos. I like my real tea. Thus, I’d never tried honeybush, and I was pretty sure I never wanted to. Then I read all the great reviews about this, so I decided to give it a try. I’d like to have a caffeine-free option available. So, I brewed it up, and wow! It really does smell like a pina colada. It tastes like one too. I can’t really figure out what the base honeybush flavor is, but whatever it is, it was overshadowed by the pina colada-iness, which is just fine by me. Now, if this flavor could be added to a black tea, I’d be in total tea heaven.

light flavor, but i hear that has to do with drinking it warm? maybe i’ll try it next time cold for more flavor.

This is a good tea also but not one of my favorites.
