From 52teas

I was happy to have the opportunity to reblend this – mostly because I love banana teas and I’ll take up just about any excuse to make a banana tea. I find it a little funny, I’m not a big fan of bananas – I mean – I like them alright but if I’m in a produce market shopping for fruit, bananas are not usually the first fruit in my cart. But I love banana flavored stuff – banana ice cream and ice pops, banana bread, banana desserts, banana pancakes … you get the idea. And that adoration for banana flavored stuff extends into banana teas – and perhaps especially banana teas! Banana and tea just really does it for me.

So, here it is, the reblend of Banana Pudding Black Tea. The original description says:

You want to hear about pudding. Did you know that pudding was created using techniques for making Haggis and blood sausage? Eww. That’s not very appetizing…

Changing gears… Bananas are very yummy, what’s more, they are yellow and shaped funny.

Our Banana pudding flavored tea also has coconut, which some people dislike in pudding because pudding is supposed to be smooth and creamy and who wants shavings of coconut in there? But hey, it’s better in the tea. And I’m feeling a little loopy tonight and rushing to get this posted since it’s already late, but I think you’re all really going to enjoy this blend–mentions of Haggis and coconut aside.

I stuck pretty close to the recipe on this one because as I mentioned in my review of the original blend, I was pretty satisfied with it. One obvious difference is that the black tea base will be somewhat different because I’m using different teas.

And I’m really happy with the result of this blend – after a short cool time, I find the flavor to be very banana-y with nice coconut notes. As the tea cools a little more, the creamy pudding-like notes emerge – so definitely give this tea time to cool a little and your patience will be rewarded!

organic ingredients: black teas, freeze-dried bananas, coconut and natural flavors.

I considered not adding milk because the flavor was quite lovely plain, but I figured it could only help the pudding aspect of it. It’s not my #1 favorite banana tea, but it’s pretty impressive! I like how the pudding flavor isn’t just cream – there’s something extra in there that really leans toward pudding. And the banana is quite flavorful as well. The rebrew is lovely – I’m sad it’s gone!

This is most definitely one of my most favourite 52teas.

Which one is your favourite banana tea?

AJRimmer

I’m sure there are others, but Pudtea’s Banoffee Pie is the first one that comes to mind! I wish they were still in business just for that tea!

Evol Ving Ness

longing for bygone teas. deep sigh

Evol Ving Ness

(Not that I have any business longing for tea. I have a lot. But still. I remember that perfect buttery depth of this one.)

52Teas Countdown- Day 4
This tea is INCREDIBLE. I love banana teas and I’ve been happy to see try so many good ones over the last couple weeks.
This really does taste like banana pudding- the creamy custardy vanilla and banana, and even the mushy Nilla wafers. There’s even a creamy mouthfeel that enhances the experience. I already sipped through my entire bag and have ordered some more.
The only problem is that I really want a tub of banana pudding from Magnolia Bakery now.

Lexie Aleah

There’s actually a Pinterest Magnolia Pudding recipe that I’ve been wanting to try to make it looks pretty easy. I’ve never actually been to that Bakery.

amandastory516

It seems quite easy! There used to be a bakery next to my work that made it and I had it weekly. Unfortunately they closed and Magnolia is the only option [that I know of].

Another one that I really like when I am in the mood for it. Today I was in the mood.

Unfortunately, I was on the go and took this in a travel mug. This tea did not survive that particular travel mug. The very gentle banana was altogether killed off. The coconut was missing in action too. Thankfully, I had brought my thermos stocked with this tea as well and the tea managed to do nicely through that experience. Happily, I drank the not great one first, so I was pleasantly surprised by the other one.

Am I the only crazy person who lugs around a huge heavy bag full of steeped tea through my day?

I put my bags of loose leaf with my thermo, two tins, and disposable tea bags in my backpack…

I was so excited when I scratched off the sticker for this tea, and when I opened it, BOOM coconut. so, while I did pick out the larger pieces of coconut (I’m not patient enough to get the smaller pieces) and tried this tea, it wasn’t something that I’d drink again. but I would like to try more banana-y teas in the future.

On the fifth day of Christmas, my true love gave to me… Banana Pudding Black Tea!
Sweet freezing jeebus, it has been so goddamn cold this last couple days. Yesterday was so cold, my fat Alaskan Malamute, Kuma didn’t even want to go outside. It dumped a ton of snow on our doorstep, and temperatures dropped to -5F during the middle of the day. And to think, it was in the upper 50’s not two days before. Thanks Denver. So grateful for a steaming cup of black tea today!

I have had a couple of banana blends from 52Teas before, and I have enjoyed each one. I was unaware before opening the package that there would also be coconut in this blend. I can see the flakes of coconut being useful in achieving that creamy pudding feel in the tea. I also like the combination of flavors, it reminds me of a blend from Etsy seller Ami Tea created that Muse Monthly had in their box one month.

I confess, I really do not like pudding. I know, I know. Many people are surprised when I say this. It’s all about the texture for me. It’s thick and ultra-creamy texture makes me gag every time I put it in my mouth. I feel as if I am swallowing Crisco. I am the same way about mayonnaise. Thankfully, drinking a tea inspired by pudding does not have the same effect. This deliciously desserty blend was a good balance of banana, malty black tea, with a hint of creamy coconut. I got more of a coconut sprinkled banana bread rather than pudding. An interesting choice to have two blends with coconut in a row, but they are varied enough for me not to care. Another delicious day counting down the days till Christmas! Am I getting a bit stressed out just thinking about it? Yes. They say tea calms you down, right? continually chugs tea

I wasn’t wowed by this blend (or reblend), but it was a nice afternoon cuppa. I was a bit puzzled to see coconut in the sample bag, but, thankfully, I didn’t get a lot of coconut flavor in my cuppa. Even after cooling for ten-ish minutes, the “pudding” note wasn’t really present. I added a tiny bit of milk and that saved the cuppa for me. I love a good banana tea, and, while this one isn’t among my favorites, it was still a lovely little cuppa with good ripe banana flavor.

52Teas

I was a little surprised by the coconut – in the original batch of this tea. I didn’t really get the connection of coconut in a banana pudding BUT since the original blend was popular and what was voted on, I decided to keep the coconut in this. Maybe sometime, I’ll make a ‘banana custard’ which will be like this, only no coconut. :)

apieceofquiche

Banana custard sounds yummy. :)

On the 5th Day of Christmas – I gotta tell you, I really wasn’t expecting this tea to do as well in the poll as it did. I mean – I really like this tea (a lot more than I remember liking it from the original batch) but maybe because it’s not quite as – unusual? – as say a pancake breakfast tea, I really didn’t expect it to be one of the winners of the poll.

But I’m glad it was because I love this reblend. This reblend definitely has a bit more coconut than I remember from the original blend – but I love how the coconut melds with the pudding notes. The black tea is robust and flavorful and there’s a lovely banana note.

Tasty!

YAY!! I am glad this one is back!! Now I am even more excited for my dad to send me all my tea :P

Tabby

I keep hearing about the voting but can’t seem to find it on the site…? o_o

52Teas

@Tabby – the voting is over – we held the vote in June so that we could determine the list of teas that we’d be making so we’d have plenty of time to make them! :)

Tabby

Ohh, no wonder! Lol.

Oh! Ohhhhhh!

It tastes like banana instant pudding. The kind that they serve in cafeterias with the nilla wafers. That stuff.

This really is candy-like (don’t read quite as far as Runts banana flavor, though) banana with a touch of vanilla and coconut. Pretty much spot on flavoring.

Like most the 52Teas black bases, err on the side of caution with temperature, because it gets bitter and astringent fast.

I need to latte this up with some toffee-flavored sweetener sometime. For science.

Thanks for sending this one my way to try VariaTEA I keep trying franks teas, hoping that some of them will stick for me like they did a year and a half ago, but something’s changed as none of them are ever very appealing to me, or when they are, the reblends are never true to form. This one is more coconut than banana to me. it’s anot a bad cup of tea but i’d be hard pressed to say that this was banana anything. :(

Backlog. This one is fairly similar to Banana Pudding Genmaicha. The black tea base is light-medium bodied. Compared to BPG it has a more full, custard-like and creamy mouthfeel. It definitely says “pudding” a little more clearly. The banana flavor is more pronounced in the first cup than subsequent cups. It’s sweet like a ripe banana and very smooth. The second cup was more coconut and cream for me, with a touch of caramel sweetness at the end. Third cup was thin with a hint of coconut/nutty flavor.

Honestly I prefer the genmaicha version better. This one fell a little flat to me.
