From 52teas

This week’s tea of the week tastes like rich pumpkin pie with a crust made entirely of sweet, delicious toffee. I don’t know if anyone could really make a pie like that, but I would love to try one. In the meantime, I’m going to continue enjoying rich sips of this yummy tea. The Dragonwell green tea adds just the right notes of sweet nuttiness to compliment the toffee and contrast with the pumpkin. All in all, this is a really special treat you’ll love serving to your guests, if you’re generous enough to share.

This superior Dragonwell blend is available at zoomdweebies.com for just $9.99 for a 2oz pouch. Get yours today.

52teas’ 12 Teas of Christmas Day 1! (Drank Dec. 2)

[Backlogged because I didn’t want to spoil this for anyone, and am hoping I don’t!]

Doing this review pretty much blind, because I don’t want to scratch the sticker for fear of completely crushing the tea in the packet. So from the outside, all I can tell is that it’s a green. Sencha, specifically. With marigold petals. Upon opening the bag, there’s a delicious wave of scents – creamy, tangy, spicy… I’ve never had the tea, but I’m reasonably certain that this is the green-based Pumpkin Cheesecake, based on my rather dim recollection of the black-based version. Though this one smells far more cream cheesy than the other ever did, complete with the tanginess.

Flavourwise, I can taste… pumpkin? And spices, though they are fairly light. Not really tasting that cheesecake flavour that I could smell. I’m still pretty sure about my guess (although it’s possible I’m wrong)

And, it turns out I am wrong. Apparently it’s Pumpkin Toffee Dragonwell. Which is pretty surprising to me, because this tea decidedly does not look like a dragonwell, nor did I get any of the characteristic dragonwell flavours (savory/umami), which I definitely got in both of Butiki’s dragonwell blend attempts. I guess it does explain the lack of cheesecake flavouring, though why I distinctly smelled the tanginess in the aroma, I’m not sure. I also didn’t get nearly as much toffee as I would have hoped for.

Unfortunate that I was wrong, because had this been Punmpkin Cheesecake on green, I probably would have rated it a 78. As Pumpkin Toffee Dragonwell, it only garners a 72, losing marks for the base tea (and lack of toffee). I still enjoy it though, and definitely wanted to try this blend, so I’m happy it was included!

You were definitely very close! This is a cool way of testing out your senses.

It’s entertaining. Of course, getting the emails, I am aware of what blends things may possibly be… and I can see the tea type, etc. as well. But as I’ve found… (spoilers!) I’ve been correct once out of 8 teas, despite being certain of a few of them. Haha.

Nummers! I don’t grab for this one often and now I’m not sure why. I especially love the toffee flavor. Does Dragonwell have more caffeine than other green teas? I felt like I had more pep in my step today.

Flavors: Pumpkin, Toffee

It’s nice to see you around! I was just thinking about you the other day, wondering where you had gone. :)

I don’t have this tea… So this a bit of a misnomer. I am actually looking high and low for this tea because I desperately wish to try it. If someone wants to part with it, I will trade handsomely for it. Thank you and have a tealicious day

Be sure to put in a reblend request for it on 52 teas! They might bring reblend it if they get enough requests for it!:]

I realize this is kind of old now, and I don’t know if Frank will put up extras from the 12 teas of Christmas… but… spoilers.. :)

Third pot for the potluck. All I really noticed in this tonight was cinnamon and green tea (but no distinctive tea notes). Not that I was paying too much attention. It was alright, but nothing spectacular.

darby

Sound wonderful by name though

Anlina

I definitely noticed more of the flavours the last time I had this, though the body of the tea still wasn’t working super well for me. I do want to try it with milk and sugar at some point.

It sounds amazing! Hope they re-blend this one. I would love to pick some :) Imma sucker for pumpkin and dragonwell

This tea was not too bad. I drank it iced with no added sugar. It had a hint of pumpkin, not so much toffee. I would drink it again.

Tea #3 from Another Traveling Tea Box?!?!?!

I like this tea…the first time I had dragonwell, it was in a spicy tea, and I didn’t like it. I do like it in this tea. It lends a nice counter-balance to the pumpkin/toffee. I love pumpkin, and I can taste it in this tea.

Someone else posted that a black tea would not have worked as well in this combination, and I agree. I think it would have over-powered the pumpkin.

I’m not sure I’d buy a ton of it, but it was nice to sample.

Edit: I think it got better as it cooled.

I love this one more with every sip. In my opinion it would make a really excellent cheesecake, but as it is it already tastes like some kind of creamy dessert with a brûlée top. It’s sweet and a little tangy, and now I know mom likes it too (she asked what I was making and it sounded so good she asked for some). I’m going to be sad to see it go!
