Tea of the Week for August 17, 2020!

As you may have noticed, I’m so ready for fall! It’s my favorite season – I love the beautiful changing colors of the leaves, every time I step outside, there’s a beautiful showy display of color in the trees! I love the smell of wood burning in the fireplaces & the scent of autumnal spices like cinnamon in the air with people selling apple cider & scented pine cones everywhere you turn. I love the cool, crisp feel of the autumnal air & the sound of crisp leaves crunching underfoot & the crackle of the fireplace. Let’s not forget about the flavors – & for me, nothing says fall more than a cup of chai!

Of course, I typically turn to a cup of chai crafted with black tea – but that doesn’t mean that I don’t love the warm spices blended with the sweetness of a green tea. Here, I brought together the contrasting flavors of sweet & spicy with the lovely roasty-toasty goodness of Genmaicha, & the warmth of cinnamon, cardamom & ginger. Since we haven’t yet said goodbye to summer either – I thought – let’s bring a bit of summer into the mix with the tropical flavors of banana & mango. To enhance the sweetness a bit, I also added some vanilla & marshmallow root.

The results are nothing short of extraordinary! This tea is seriously yummy! It’s also all organic, VEGAN, gluten free & allergen free!

Taster size is approximately 15g

organic ingredients: green tea, toasted & popped rice, mango, banana, cinnamon, ginger, cardamom, marshmallow root, vanilla bean & natural flavors

OH! My! Goodness! Guys, I think you’re gonna love this one!

It’s warm but not overly spicy. At first, the sip seems to have a softer spice note to it – but as the sip progresses into the aftertaste, you feel the warmth blanket the palate. It is never super spicy – but it’s warm enough to remind you that this is a chai! The green tea is soft & sweet & there’s just enough of that roasty goodness from the toasted rice to give it that unmistakable genmaicha taste. The banana & mango lend a sweet, fruity, tropical note that is oh so delightful.

A must try for chai lovers, for tropical tea lovers – not to mention for genmaicha lovers! This is the stuff!

to brew: give the pouch a really good shake. There’s a whole lot of ingredients here & you want a fair representation of everything in your cup! use 3g of leaf to 12 ounces of hot water (175°F) & allow to steep for 2 minutes. strain & allow to cool for 5 minutes.

sweetener is not required here, it’s really delightful without. But because this is a chai, you really can’t go wrong with a teensy bit of sugar or honey. It will bring out the spicy notes just a bit more.

Not my favourite but it did taste tropical-fruity, with some spice, and of course, genmaicha toastiness. This 1.5-year-old tea was accidentally misplaced for a while, so this is the first time I’m drinking it!

There’s some light toastiness along with some mild chai spices. This one smells so good, but the flavor is a little milder than I prefer. I liked it a little more with milk. It’s a nice genmaicha, but not quite a strong enough chai. To be honest, I never really tasted any tropical flavors in it either. I was making some homemade key lime pie ice cream and accidentally squirted some lime in the most recent mug of this, and that gave it a fun tropical sendoff.

Such an interesting combination of flavors! I mostly smell the ginger in the dry leaf, with the cinnamon and toasted rice being the dominant aromas when brewed. However, the balance in flavor between the tropical fruits and spices is so unique! I can taste the banana and mango distinctly, with some cinnamon and ginger balancing out the fruitiness. The roastiness of the popped and toasted rice adds to the overall flavor rather than detracting from it.

Flavors: Cinnamon, Ginger, Mango, Roasted

This was nice and cozy. Had a bit of that waxy tropical pineapple note and then settled into toasty rice and warming cinnamon/ginger. Made me feel relaxed in the evening while hanging out at the hotel.
