Got a sample size of this with a previous order which was at least a year ago now. As I was steeping this I wondered… what makes a breakfast tea regional? I’ve had French, English and Irish breakfast teas. They are all malty, heavy, go well with added cream, but what differentiates a French from an English one? Is there a different base used in each? I’m going to have to consult the googles and see what info I can find.
This tea follows the breakfast tea profile; malty, heavy, goes well with cream. There is a sweetness to it. The finish is almost a barley like flavor. It’s good and mildly interesting, but probably not something I’d put on my shopping list.

I tend not to order straight teas or blends from companies specializing in flavoured tea, although in retrospect that’s kind of silly given that if I’m so in love with their flavoured teas due to the bases, the odds are good that the straights they carry are pretty spectacular… Long story short, this was surprisingly delicious – I drank it not remembering what I’d brewed, and couldn’t identify it (straight blend problems), but was immediately hooked. Flavourful and completely smooth, I have no idea what is in this tea but… yum. It reminded me of one of Butiki’s last straight black blends, which I’m not remembering the name of, but which was also delicious. Thanks for the free sample, Lauren – this blend might make it into an order of mine at some point!

Anyway; this was a freebie sample from my most recent AQTT order. I would never think to get a tea like this from AQTT if I was ordering; it’s not that I doubt that it’s a decent tea but I just feel like they’re more the kind of company you order fancy flavoured blends from, not classics like English Breakfast. It’s actually a really nice EB though – really smooth and sweet, with an almost jammy strawberry note to it that really through me for a loop because of how unexpected it was. Some of the typical raisiny/malt sort of things going on too.
Not bad at all; actually really solid! Still not the kind of thing I’m going to be ordering from AQTT in the future though.
