From Adagio Teas

While Arabica leaves do not have the roasted, rich character of the coffee bean, in our Arabica Mocha, they are blended them with toasted mate, chicory, cocoa nibs, and a touch of hazelnut to recreate the cozy comfort, add body, and beef up the caffeine levels a touch. A nice alternative beverage with a bit less jitteriness, the cup is nutty, toasty, and offers a dry finish. Please note, this herbal blend contains a small amount of caffeine.

Blended With: Arabica Tea, Toasted Mate Tea, Chicory, Cocoa Nibs, Natural Chocolate Flavor, Natural Hazelnut Flavor & Safflower

Finally something different for the advent samples. Arabica Mocha is pretty good – it has a warm and cozy nutty chocolate flavor. It fits the holiday season, unlike some of the others. At least it’s not yet another green or roobios.

As it cools, this one stays good. Did not need or add any sugars or additives.

Day 9 of 2022 Advent Calendar

Good, subtle mocha. Honestly thought it would taste stronger than it did

I liked the smell of this blend but that’s about it. I did not enjoy the flavor at all. I handed the mug to my mom and she drank it instead.

Adventaggedon Day Nine – 2/5

This is the first tea I’ve come across in the Adagio advent that I actually own already, but I enjoy it so I wasn’t unhappy to see it – and I love the idea of including one of their coffee leaf blends in the advent. It’s a great way to introduce the ingredient to more people.

Since I was able to take from my own bag of this tea to have enough leaf for this preparation method, I decided to make today’s sample as an eggnog latte. I was worried the coffee leaf might be a little thin in body but the eggnog was plenty rich enough to make up for it! Most surprisingly was how tremendously strong the hazelnut flavouring was. It reminded me a little bit of those flavoured coffee creamers, but in the best sort of way. It was perfect with the softer but present notes of coffee and chocolate.

Strange VariaTEA TTB – Tea #20

I love maté, and I don’t think I’ve ever tried coffee leaf before, so this one piqued my interest. I do generally enjoy coffee-flavored teas, though it looks like there isn’t actually any coffee flavoring here. There was just one single serve packet of this tisane in the box.

It mostly tastes like a mix of green and roasted maté to me. I assume it’s the coffee leaf that’s adding that green, herbaceous flavor, since there is no green maté here. The chicory root adds a nice earthiness that goes well with the roasty maté. To be honest, I’m not really tasting any chocolate, either cacao or flavoring, but I don’t mind. I do pick up on the hazelnut, which is nicely rich and buttery. It’s interesting because even though this has so many roasty notes going on, it actually tastes rather light because of the herbaceous coffee leaf.

Anyway, I like this one. I’m not sure I love it enough to order, but I’ll keep it in mind. I definitely need more maté in my cupboard, as I really do enjoy the flavor of it. But first, sipdowns! :P
