I’ve been avoiding this tea for a while – the idea of Jasmine kind of scares me, it doesn’t seem like something I’d like.
The leaves smell great though – along the buttery lines I like. I’ve become wary of adagio teas that smell nice to me though – they usually end up tasting flat. And I’ve found the opposite to be true as well – teas that smell mediocre taste fantastic to me.
Okay, so I was scared of this tea.
The taste is actually pleasantly floral. It has the scent of gardenia to me. The initial taste is buttery, then the floral notes come out, there’s a touch of bitterness, and then it resolves into a toasty flavor with a little bit of an astringent sensation. The more I drink this the more I like it.

This is the kind of tea I would make a pot of in the afternoon if I had one long single task ahead of me, like a writing session.

Seems too heavy for a Jasmine tea. Earthy and dusty. Also has a sweet aftertaste that overpowers floral Jasmine notes and contributes to overall heaviness. Not refreshing at all, feels more like a bag of dry Jasmine flowers vs fresh jasmine on a bush.

Backlogging. I had 3 steeps of this today. Each progressive steep got sweeter and sweeter tasting, and the jasmine seemed to get more subtle each time, which was actually really nice and made it go down smoother than the first steep. I’ll have to remember to resteep this every time I have it now, it’s almost painful to think about how many times I drank this and only did one infusion before tossing out the tea leaves! At least I still have a good portion of my 4oz tin left.

There are some teas that Adagio doesn’t do very well, and then there are teas that I only ever want to buy from Adagio. Jasmine #9 has this clear, pure taste of Jasmine, that almost feels as if you’re drinking crystal clear jasmine water. This is a good thing, because I feel this tea is sort of an elixir, a kind of tea that will keep you going strong. Although I wasn’t in the mood for jasmine when I was picking out a tea, I find this to be a wonderful noon reprieve. Relaxing, but not so much as to put me to sleep. A very meditative tea that I’m quite pleased with.

Back to work. It was such a nice vacation. I’m glad the company is closed for Independence Day – I only have to work 2 days, then I’m off a day, then work 1 day, and then my normal 3 day weekend will be here. I get to ease back into working.

Threw some Jasmine #9 in my tea bottle. It came out pretty astringent this morning on the first steep. The second steeping seems better so far. I will probably do one more steep later, and start throwing ice in either this one or the next.

It’s a dependable tea. I think I’m starting to tire of it a little though. I should package up a couple of samples since I have a pound of it, and do some trades.

My acid reflux is still acting up, and I have been having trouble sleeping, so I’m watching my tea intake for now, in case it’s aggravating either issue. That’s not fun.

So I limited myself to 1 cup of tea today, and figured a green would be better than a black on my stomach.

Made myself drink an entire bottle of water before having my tea, and then had the Jasmine. Nursed it through lunch, when I iced it and enjoyed it outside in the 99 degree level of Hades that is north Texas at the moment.

Oh look. Jasmine again.

I find myself wondering what I could mix with it to change it up a little. I have some peppermint…

Of all the weird things… this weekend, I grabbed a spare 4 oz canister that I had ordered from Adagio, and filled it with Jasmine #9. I was tired of refilling the little sample canister so often to take to work.

Got to work this morning, and made my tea. Tasted it and… PEPPER? Why am I tasting pepper? Do not like!

I don’t know where it’s coming from – the canister, or if something happened to my tea bottle when hubs put it in the cupboard. Perhaps he set it down near the pepper grinder in the kitchen?

I have no idea why it’s happening, I guess I will just have to make more to see if it still tastes like pepper with another serving.

Blech.

I have a couple of tea bottles I alternate between at work. There’s the Lock & Lock and the generic one (it’s like this one: http://amzn.com/B001KW03I6 ). I realized that this tea really doesn’t like the generic bottle. There’s just not enough room in the basket for the leaves to expand. So the tea ends up kind of astringent, unlike in the Lock & Lock where they float around freely like some strange species of green seahorse.

So if you’ve tried this and found it too heavy or astringent, give it some room to swim around. It’s much better that way.

Jasmine teas are my favorite. Jasmine #9 has a bit of a stronger flavor than Jasmine #5 (from Adagio Teas). Both are a great way to wind down after a long day.

This is my all-time favorite green tea. I would gladly drink this daily and find myself craving it randomly during the day.

This is the first loose leaf tea I tried and I loved it. I associate the smell of jasmine with the time I lived in New Orleans so I have a strong scent memory reaction to it which makes any jasmine tea special to me. Ultimately I’d rely more on other people’s reviews than my own since I don’t consider myself hardcore…yet. TG

I got the job! I got the job! I got the job! ::checks one stressor off her list::

So, Jasmine seemed like the perfect tea to celebrate this morning. And how ‘bout that? It’s the best that any tea’s tasted in weeks! I’m truly thinkin’ that my tea mojo’s returning for realz :D TG

Yes, I live (sort of)! I miss my Steepster and more importantly my Steepsterites, but post-GRE life has gone from crazy to head explodey. I’m out of my nummy GTC Weight Loss Tea (I made my weight goal – huzzah!) so it’s been all about Jasmine #9. I did go wild and finally tried Samovar’s Four Seasons courtesy of JacquelineM, but it was at a librarian retreat and I had no control over water temp — it was good, but I could tell that the water was too hot. Anywho, tea life has been extremely unexciting. Sorry :(

I also want to reassure everyone who was gracious enough to share contact info with me — I do promise that I plan to send out packages! I humbly apologize that none have gone out yet, but if I would have known how insane my life would become in these few months, then I would have held off (I’m still working at both libraries and the library director at one just resigned, and my mom was in the hospital — she’s doing fine). Just know that I do see a light at the end of the tunnel and I’m 90% sure that it isn’t a train.

Hey all — yes, I still exist and haven’t imploded from all the stressors in my life at the moment. Unfortunately, my tea drinking exploration has temporarily come to a screeching halt as I’ve been stuck on Jasmine #9 for at least a week. I typically brew some up in my JOEmo and take it to work where after I almost drink it all I add some cold water and continue doing so throughout the day. And that’s been it. As I type this I’m slightly horrified. Oh well, it’s working for me right now, so I’ll go with it.

One thing that I’ve been meaning to mention is how awesome the JOEmo is at keeping the tea temp. I had filled it with cold water and driven out to my interview the other week where I left it in my car (heat index was above 100 degrees — blech). When I came back out almost 2 hours later my car was an oven. I grabbed the thermos (which was warm to the touch) and then almost did a spit-take when the water inside was as cold as it had been when I originally poured it. It was a super-pleasant surprise. :)

Hallelujah! I needed this tea in a way that I was unaware. It’s one of my favorites and for some insane reason I haven’t had it in months. That’s just wrong. I love me some of this tea. I JOEmo’d it today and it was awesome. TG

This still remains my favorite Jasmine. After my tragic “Tootsie Roll” incident with my GM Jasmine Pearl sample I was sort of avoiding going back to this one for fear that I had forever tainted all Jasmines with that association. Thankfully it did not.

I wanted to add that since I’ve experienced a wider range of oolongs the floral notes here overwhelm the oolong until approximately the 5th steep. That’s when the mouth magic happens. It’s not as intense as a Jade or Wuyi, but it’s there by golly! But until I reach that steep this is the most accurate “spring evening in NOLA” jasmine tea scent that I’ve ever smelled. 6th steep was also full of joy, and I would’ve gone for more steeps, but I need to think about getting some sleep tonight. TG

Mmmm…a perfect day to start it off with something floral!

This brewed up to a surprisingly dark color. The flavor is richly floral, and surprisingly hearty. I think it may be the jasmine green from ThinkGeek’s sampler.

I’ve had this tea a few times and liked it, so I decided I would make a few cups for my after-work tea. I heated the water, put the leaves in, and steeped it for three-ish minutes, maybe a tad too long. Went to smell it… and there was the faint, familiar, turkey-like aroma of Yet Another Oversteeped Dud. Damn. Let it cool for several minutes, then went for a sip… it’s just on the inside edge of being oversteeped!

It’s a good jasmine fix, if you like jasmine (which I do!) The only other thing I have to compare it to is the Jasmine Dragon Phoenix Pearls from Teavana, which is my hands-down “Calm the F*** Down” tea. It’s a lighter flavor of jasmine without being too light for my tastes. Floral, soft, jasmine, yadda yadda. Bit cheaper alternative to my beloved Pearls. Will probably become a standard.

My fiftieth tasting note! * dance * (…That’s scary.)

I’m debating on whether I’ll get this tea after I sip it down. Probably not right away. I’ll probably go on pursuits for other jasmine-flavored things, or just stick with my normal jasmine pearls.

The thing about my tea obsession at this point is that when I was starting out, I had a couple of things I liked, and I was willing to try everything. I’ve only been doing this for about three months now, but I’ve found a niche (malty black teas!), and it makes me kinda “meh” about having anything else. Nooooo…

(meanwhile, looks at tea description)

Wait a minute WHAT? Oolong?!? Since when has this tea been an oolong?
It was listed as a green tea on Adagio’s website! Are they lying to me, or have I had an oolong in my cupboard this whole time and not known about it?

Some days I find myself suddenly craving the taste of jasmine tea…

Go easy on this one. I didn’t measure the exact water temperature, but it was right as I started to hear it boil on the stove. I let it steep for about two minutes with some help (aka me swishing the pot to stir up the leaves.) Nice, mid-level jasmine flavor, very smooth. A little less strong than some jasmine pearl teas. One of my evening teas.

I guess I’m just not a fan of jasmine. I found this to be nearly undrinkable and the smell started to give me a headache. I threw out the last 1/4 of the cup. Someone else said the jasmine got more subtle on resteeps, so maybe I’ll throw out the first steep next time I try it. I’m glad I only got the sample!

I read some of the other reviews of this tea and I think maybe I prepared it wrong. For the first couple of sips it was really bitter but then it mellowed out and the Jasmine was really prominent and both the scent and the taste was delightful. It was a very smooth clean taste to me unlike the earthiness of some of the blacks and oolongs I’ve tried. The pack said 3-5 minutes at 195, I had to estimate the temp by bringing it to boiling and waiting a minute and steeped for 4 mins. I’ll try resteeping (since someone said it resteeps really well) and for less time, see if that takes out the early bitterness.

The dry tea leaves smell sublime, the steeping tea smells amazing, and a deceptively clear beverage (at Adagio’s recommended steeping time) yields a clear, smooth jasmine flavor. Additional infusions progressively tone the jasmine down and let the green shine through.

This is definitely one you want to filter. Leaves left in the cup, it becomes unbearably floral and approaching soapy near the leaves.

This tea was hard to drink if you like your teas to have a more earthy taste! It is very sweet and the Jasmine is very very strong! not one of my favorites!

Not the best for me. Be very careful with temp and steep time as both can make this tea taste like soap. Even after careful preparation it still seemed off.

One of the best teas after dinner.

My mouth is slightly tingling from the spicy peppers I just had. I drizzled them with a tiny bit of rosemary sencha tea oil http://market.bonteavant.com/rosemary-sencha-tea-oil-AretteRosemarySenchaOil.htm which I got thanks to the promotion here. “Rosemary sencha tea oil” sounds so fancy and evokes so many images in my mind. It tastes really good and you need just a tiny bit. Finishing it all of with some jasmine tea which seems just a perfect match.

Just had a nice, fresh pasta from the farmers market + maitake mushrooms finished with a cup of Jasmine #9.
I’m quite addicted to jasmine teas. I think it’s just the perfect after dinner tea and I like the smell too. Very uplifting.

I’m always in the mood for jasmine tea :)

Not much left in the tin … Will re-order Jasmine #12 to support Adagio’s Roots Campaign helping farmers behind the tea.

Lin Chui Feng, the farmer making Jasmine #12, says: “the hardest part for jasmine pearl is jasmine flower blending. In order to get the best flower time, we must do this job in the midnight in Jul and Aug when the best time for flower blooming comes. Meanwhile we must control the temperture and time. A good quality jasmine pearl requests several time of blending so as to absorb the richest flower flavor”.

I added a dash of chamomile/lavender and it came out better than I expected.

Steeped for 3 min. Delicious after my lunch!
