Jasmine #12

Oolong Tea by Adagio Teas

Oolong tea from the Fujian province of China infused with the delicate scent of the night-blooming jasmine flowers. If you enjoy jasmine tea, we urge you to try the sublime taste of its well-made varieties. The ‘Jasmine Suite no. 12’ is an exotic Dragon Phoenix Pearl tea, comprised of intricate jasmine-infused pearls. Each pearl combines two delicate leaves and an unopened bud. When added to water, the pearls majestically unfurl, releasing their delicate scent and flavor. A spellbinding treat for all senses. While not cheap, this tea is well worth the experience.

My first experience with pearls. I missed out on the fun of watching them unfurl while steeping as I don’t have a glass mug and just a regular infuser. The pearls make me want to buy one of those fancy glass contraptions.

Taste-wise, I like Adagio’s Rooibos Jasmine better. A lot better. I initially appreciated that this tea is more subtle, but soon discovered that I missed the stronger flavour of the other jasmine teas I’ve tried. It’s just my first cup, though, and it could be that I mucked up the steeping time. If you’ve read any of my other tasting notes, you’ll know that I have a tendency to forget that I’ve got tea steeping. Oops. I think I’ll pay more attention next time and re-evaluate.

Very fragrant to the nose. Tastes more like I put a piece of fragrant soap in my mouth in all honesty. I walked around trying to think of what it tasted like and that’s what came to mind. I’m going to add some honey to it and see what my palate says ….

I really love the Jasmine flavor of this tea, although I think it may be a little too powerful. I’m drinking my first steep now and wow it just really pops! If your a fan of the Jasmine flavor teas then this one is for you.

I’m fixing to start last night’s episode of LOST while I finish off this first glass then have my second steep during the episode. This last season is really getting good.

Wow, flowery! Very subtle, and yet not weak.

Love this tea, my favorite Jasmine by far.

It took me several cups to really like this, but like it I do, it is soothing and refreshing. Now this is a staple in my tea pantry.

This is my 1st oolong since my shocking cup of Ooooh Darjeeling as well as my very 1st Jasmine.

Raw leaf observations: I love teas that are as much of a delight to watch steep as drink when they are finished. The tightly rolled leaves have a smooth and slightly sweet aroma, nothing similiar to a pu erh as some oolongs have.

Steeping method: 2.25g of pearls in 6oz of purified water heated at 195 degrees F for 5 min in Adagio’s IngenuiTEA.

I’m surprised at the light yellowish-amber liquor of the 1st infusion. By far not as light as a green or white tea, but definitely lighter than most of the oolongs I’ve tried.

It smells just like it did in the tin, although a bit more pronounced. A smooth and sweet scent, yet not flowery or perfumey like rose might be.

This is much more positive than my last oolong experience. It tastes just like it smells. It’s not weak for my tastes although a bit weaker than I expect from an oolong. It does not have a strong punch of flavor that you’d get from a black tea. It’s lighter and smoother. It doesn’t upset my stomach like most black and flowery teas do.

2nd infusion: 6 min. Hmmm… Interesting. This infusion is darker than the 1st. The smell is a bit stronger as well which makes me wonder if there’s more caffeine in this infusion than the 1st. While this infusion is stronger, it’s not too strong. It’s a personal preference as to which one a person might prefer but both are not just drinkable, but good.

3rd infusion: 7 min. Lighter in liquor, aroma, and taste than the 2nd but yet still stronger than the 1st. Still very good. I think I’m going to switch to something else now, but I’d think one could get a 4th good infusion out of this and I will try next time I desire an oolong. I can see myself buying this one again.

Made this for myself while visiting w/ my friend Helen. Decide to steep it a lil shorter this time to see what’d happen. Pleasantly surprised at the flavor punch! Yummy. I think I’ll keep steeping it at 3min from now on.

The scent of jasmine is beautiful, exotic and nocturnal, and not overpowering like in the previous jasmine tea I’ve tried. The taste is warm, earthy, and grassy—very foresty, but at the same time the feel of it was light and clear. A little bitter, though I think that’s because my water was too hot—I keep forgetting to pick up a thermometer at the store, so I had to guess the temperature. Grass peaking out from beneath a layer of decaying leaves in a moonlit forest.

Dangit, I didn’t put enough of the little pearls in my cup this morning, so I got barely flavored water. Le sigh. And then it cooled because I went to a meeting. So unfortunately, I didn’t get a good cup this morning. Now I am coding, and I need a stiffer beverage, to keep me awake. Out it gets dumped.

Eeep. Went to make an after lunch bottle of tea, and choose this. I poured the pearls into my bottle, and realized that it was my last serving of the sample I got! No more #12 until I have worked through the POUND of Jasmine #9 that I ordered. If you have never ordered 16 oz of a tea before, please be informed… that’s a LOT of tea!

Jasmine #12 smells so lovely. I want a perfume that smells like it! And I love seeing the pearls unfurl as it steeps. If you have one, use a clear glass pot or tea bottle to enjoy the show.

I brewed this right the first time and could not get it right again until I was given a tetsubin (cast iron pot) with infuser. My method for a perfect cuppa now: Rinse tetsubin with hot water (this tea is very sensitive to temperature). Put 1 tablespoon jasmine pearls into infuser. Add 12oz hot (not boiling, definitely not boiling!) water. Steep 1.5 minutes. DO NOT oversteep… it will get bitter. Good for at least one or two more infusions, about the same time plus a few extra seconds for each subsequent infusion. Delightful tea when prepared correctly.

Medium strength oolong tea with a strong floral scent with a sweet taste.

Leaves are tightly rolled up into little balls. Smells really floral. Steeps to a light brown (white mug).

Sweet floral taste. No bitter aftertaste of the cheap jasmines teas. Tastes a bit dry, very slightly astringent on the tongue.

4.5g tea
12 oz water

I lowered the steep time further on this tea to just 1 min. I also increased the amount of tea a bit as well. I liked out this one turned out as the jasmine wasn’t as overpowering as i seemed to remember in my previous steeps of this.

Had this a second time. I lowered the steep time in an attempt to reduce the jasmine impact. I thought it did a decent job of that and made the tea seem more drinkable to me. Otherwise was just too much jasmine.

Best jasmine I’ve had- liquid springtime, with smooth flavorful oolong just underneath.

This is a fantastic Oolong Jasmine tea. The flavor of the jasmine is very light, and you really smell it more than you taste it. Very highly recommended.

Pretty good. Not as flowery as it smells (which is a good thing). Needs some sugar, though.

Not a bad tea, really light & flowerier which I do not usually go for. Brought it into my office though and it got a huge response.

An enjoyable and refreshing tea. It has a wonderful aroma with an excellent light, floral flavor. My first jasmine tea and it’s a great change from herbals, black and green teas I’m more used to. Lots of flavor even on a third steeping.
