White Blueberry

Fruit White Blend by Adagio Teas

This tea blends together the taste of juicy blueberries with premium white tea from Fujian province, China. Very fragrant, like freshly harvested ‘highbush’ blueberries (the aromatic variety). Soft, rounded mouthfeel with a clean, refreshing finish. A customer favorite, this tea is delectable both hot and cold.

I logged this a week ago and forgot to write anything! Aah, I’m so terribly behind on tasting notes. When I made my first (and only) Adagio order, I got some coupon thingy during checkout that gave me 10% off. Of course, that negated the free shipping so I had to add more tea! Rather pay for some samples than shipping. They’re sneaky like that!

Anyway, my two samples to balance out the total were this and Thai Chai… which of course were my favorites of the ones I ordered. I mean seriously, I got 3 oz of White Cucumber and 3 oz of Raspberry but NOT of this?! Argh, past me, WHY. This is such a nice, refreshing white. I’ve had it hot, chilled, extra-strength over ice, and this time cold brewed (since their samples are very large). Adagio can be heavy on the flavoring, but this one is done with a gentle hand. The white base is a middle-to-lower-grade white peony but it’s still wonderful cold, crisp and slightly floral. The blueberry is so natural that I was kind of taken aback, since it’s a flavor that is easy to make artificial. Definitely one of my favorites iced, I’ll have to bite the bullet and place another order there!

On a related note, I find Adagio perplexing. A lot of their teas are so-so, but others are downright awful. Yet some are totally wonderful. For example, their Raspberry tastes like cheap candies but Ripe for Romance (a chocolate raspberry black) has a great, authentic raspberry taste. I wonder if they source their flavoring agents from a lot of different places?

I put her name always, because she is my lovely supplier of tea, and she likes reading my notes, apparently. (She’s commented and liked almost every single one, whether they were for tea she gave me or not. Dedicated follower!)

I am very happy with this tea. :-) I had some TAZO white tea a while back, and it had a fancy name, but pretty much it was a blueberry tea, and that was my first white tea. (It was bagged, but TAZO is awesome either way.) I also had some Lipton blueberry pomogranate back around that time too, and that was also white. So it’s been a while since I’ve had any decent white teas. And never any loose leaf!! So I was excited to try this. :-)

Smell: (I’m going to stop putting my little indicators….they bug me. :P) It was blueberry, but not too strong. Nice and delicate. And also the smell of the white tea was very pleasant, and not harsh or overpowering. Floral, almost. It was also very pretty! Steeping the blueberry was definitely there, and it was yummy.

Taste: BLUEBERRY!! YES! THE TEA HAS STUCK FULLY TO IT’S NAME!! Sorry, a lot of my more recent teas loose a bit on taste. And this isn’t a strong blueberry taste, exactly, but it is definitely there. Smooth, just right, and the taste of the tea is also there, mixing in perfectly. I don’t like my tea taste to overpower if there is supposed to be some other flavor, and this tea delivers the right mix. No complaints, what-so-ever.

Also, even though this is a “no duh” thing, white tea really isn’t white. :P I just find stuff like that funny to think about. I’m weird, I know. But it is a very, very light light brownish-yellow, and a spoonful of it actually does look very white. So it is but it isn’t. (Yes, I had to put all that.)

Happy! Happy!! BLUEBERRY!! :-)

Having seen this get high praises on Steepster, I decided to include a sample in my latest Adagio order.

The dry aroma smells promising. Adding a T. of honey, it brews to a nice tart blueberry flavor, with noticeable tea in the background. While nice, it isn’t something that appeals hot, so was thinking of putting in frig, but then decided to do a 2nd steep with sugar, instead of honey.

Increasing steep time to 3-1/2m at 190, with T. of sugar, this is much more to my liking (although a T. of sugar is a bit of overkill…need to decrease next time). I do think the tea got lost in the 2nd steeping though. But am going for a 3rd (what the heck) and then sticking it all in the frig to see if it’s a candidate for iced tea during the upcoming hotter months. Another Adagio winner (which are few and far between for me, so I’m glad).

ETA: Put the remnants of the three steepings (about 1/2 of each) into big glass and put in frig to get cold. It tastes really good, but now the blueberry flavor tastes a little artificial (as if there is artificial sweetener, which I didn’t use).

Wow, this is really nice! I got this from a swap with TastyBrew and it’s got me rethinking white tea. What a great tea to wind down from the day with. I steeped this for 3 1/2 minutes, and I got such a nice subtle blueberry flavor combined with a very likable white tea (very slightly floral…not in your face; delicate). I have to admit, I added a little sugar, which made it nice and sweet! The tea is very light and smooth. I bet this would be great iced. I think we have another winner in my very limited white tea world! Thanks TastyBrew!!

A pretty decent bagged white tea. I even spotted a whole dried blueberry in the pouch! The flavor is sweet and soft. Very relaxing to sip. Delicate. A very nice tea.

I’m slamming a pitcher of iced blueberry at the moment and it is so good and refreshing! Its obligatory at this point to pound a lot of white tea so I can get over this H1N1 virus more quickly. Yes, I got the swine flu …but I have hope this white tea and all of its wonderful antioxidants will help with the longevity and reduce the symptoms. I’ll let you know!

First review. Nice and soft blueberry scent and pretty dry blend of light tea leaves and small dry blueberries. Steeped about 4 minutes tasted and let it go another minute. First sip is light with slight blueberry flavor and no added sugar. I added sugar which brought the blueberry flavor to the front and was really the best way to drink this brew. Most white tea has a distinct white tea note that is floral but this white is quite bland. Then I added milk to see if the blueberry flavor would become creamy and rich but it actually became dull since the berry is subdued so I personally would not add any milk or cream in the future. All said and done…this is an average tea a little light for my taste but maybe great for people who have a more sensitive palate. I like assertive more expressive flavors.

I thought I’d be daring tonight and try another white tea. I did a shorter steep time than suggested because that’s just how I roll. (Yes, I’m a dork)

I don’t know if I would have gone with ‘blueberry’ on this. Maybe I just don’t have blueberries frequently enough – I’m more of a blackberry girl except for the rare muffin. But at the same time, not being beaten over the head with blueberry is a good thing in my world, so that’s a point in this tea’s favor.

It definitely has a sweet fruity flavor, but not too sweet. There’s maybe a little underlying something – not quite tart but just enough to give it a fuller flavor. The more I sip on this, the more I like that and this tea.

Yay! White teas aren’t anywhere near as horrid as I thought!

A little tarter/berrier than the other time I had it. I think because I used more leaf. I was nice and am sharing with DH and he commented on the blueberriness of this.

I’m sleepy so that’s all I’ve got.

Drinking steeps 3 & 4 from last night iced. When it was hot, I got a sweet taste, then the heavier not-tart taste second. Iced, I seem to get them both together. The sweetness might have even moved a little bit to the end of the tea. As it warms up a bit, the not-tart taste becomes more dominant. Anyway, it’s pretty different from my normal teas but this has a refreshing, summer-in-a-field kind of taste that is nifty.

This needs all high ratings! lol. I am obsessed with blueberry so I guess that’s all I have to say. It works so good with white tea. I am not usually a fan of Adagio but they hit it right!

I didn’t approach this initial review with great expectations – I am away from home, and had to deviate from my filtered water and thermometer approach – so it was Chicago tap and eyeballing the water in a saucepan….so theoretically 180F steeped for 4 mins.

That being said, I loved this tea. It did just what it said it would on the packet – soft taste, hint of blueberry and very refreshing aftertaste – so much so that I had to rummage through the trash to check they hadn’t stuck some mint in there (they hadn’t).

None of the metallic/bitter taste I experienced with the other white tea I have tried (Snow Geisha), and no need for any sugar, for me at least it was plenty sweet. As I am sipping it now,, it reminds me of cream soda for some reason. Go figure. No blueberries in that, surely?

All that and 7.5 Oz cost me about 20 bucks, which is a steal compared to where I have been shopping recently,

Best white flavoured tea ever in my limited experience.

I bought this to have another white tea to drink when my reflux acts up. I had to choose between 1.5 ounces and 8 ounces with nothing in between-what’s up with no 3 or 4 ounce options, Adagio? 8 ounces of white is A LOT of tea! Glad I only bought 1.5 ounces. Anyhow, in comparison with Teavana’s Strawberry Paraiso (another recent white purchase) this is at least mostly tea.

In fact, the few blueberries I found are covered with tea dust and not easy to find. Still the blueberry flavoring is very natural and provides a pleasant aroma with the dry leaf. The leaves themselves are broken in fairly large pieces and are various shades from medium green to medium brown. The liquor brews a nice golden color that somehow comes across in the taste. Again, the blueberry is natural. It’s sweet, but is improved with a teaspoon of sugar. I even tried a steep with cinnamon and brown sugar added. Not bad if you can find the right ratio, but it makes for a heavier tea. I got two steeps out of my leaves, which is okay, I suppose.

Overall, though, I am not crazy about this. It’s good, but not great. It might be a nice refreshing option iced-and I’ll try that when it heats up. Although I will definitely finish this, I probabIy wouldn’t buy this again

I made sure to shake up the bag a little bit before opening it, so I could make sure that I didn’t have the same problem a friend of mine had (all the blueberry bits sitting near the bottom of the bag). Once I opened it, holy crap, the smell of blueberries hit me. In a good, sweet, fresh blueberry kind of way.

For the first pot of tea, I let it steep for 3 minutes and then took the basket out and set it aside. The smell of blueberries seemed to be even stronger than it was when I first opened the bag (which I totally didn’t think was possible). It has a light, sweet taste and was good until the last drop.

For the second pot, I used the same batch of tea leaves from the first and just steeped it for an extra minute and a half or so (4.5 minutes instead of 2.45-3). It was a little bit lighter in taste, but still delicious.

I was delighted when my phone buzzed and Twitter announced to me that my order from Adagio had arrived! I recently discovered that I love white tea, so this order contained mostly flavored whites. I was most excited for White Blueberry, so I dug right into this tin and was delighted with what I saw.
The tin was full of gorgeous white tea leaves mixed with an almost equal amount of real blueberries. The aroma emanating from the mixture was very sweet. It smelled like real blueberries instead of smelling all artificial like some flavored teas I’ve had from Adagio.
The tea looked beautiful as it steeped, because the tea “dust” was washed off from the blueberries, making them turn a very pretty pinkish-purple color. It smelled wonderful as it was steeping. The sweetness was toned down a whole lot.
The taste was great, too. The white tea is very distinct, but the blueberries are as well. These two very pronounced tastes blend wonderfully. It’s obvious that they are two very different tastes, but everything is still cohesive. It really has an authentic blueberry taste. The after-taste is all blueberry.

In short, this is a great cup of tea. As an added note, I’m drinking this from my new Jumbo Cup from Adagio that my mother just gave me for my birthday. I really like the cup, too!

Thanks to Tea Bird for sending me some of my favorite tea! I love this, but I ran out, and I’ve made a promise to myself (and my bank account) to not order any tea during the month of April. It’s been a while since I’ve had this, and it was just as good as I remember. It’s funny how tastes can remind you of things. Like today, when I took my first sip of this, I remembered how I used to drink this during my English class in the mornings. I could hear the sound of my professor’s voice and the buzzing of the kid’s phone who sits behind me and constantly texts during class.

I love how the white tea is still detectable behind the blueberry taste. The two are such light tastes that they compliment each other perfectly. This is definitely a great summer tea.

It’s a good sign when I’m halfway through a tin only 2 days after I receive my package. This is just so good!

When I first moved to Texas from New Jersey, about 6 months ago, people gave me the weirdest looks when they found out that I drink my tea hot and unsweetened. Apparently, it’s the norm in Texas to drink your tea iced and with so much sweetener that you risk going into a diabetic coma with every sip. Well, it’s a pretty warm day here so I decided to try my White Blueberry the Texas way, only without using so much sweetener. It turns out it’s pretty delicious! I still like my way better, but I could get used to this. I’ll certainly be drinking iced tea a lot this summer when it’s just way too hot outside for hot tea.

Just used my last bit of this. Next time I order from Adagio I am going to order a lot of this! It’s realllllly good.

Alright so my first review on Adagio tea, I actually bought this online from what i thought was a local tea company but turned out to be just a reseller…oh well i’ll know better for next time.

the smell of the dry leaves reminds me of sour blueberries, i’m hoping the tea isn’t.

the steeped tea smells amazing! blueberries! mmmmmmm…

taste is not as blueberry as i would of liked but nice nonetheless, you really taste the tea and it leaves a nice aftertaste in my mouth.

nice tea but probably wouldn’t buy this again

First time with this tea and it was fantastic. It’s very light but the blueberry rolls on nicely. I’m thinking I’ll use more leaves next time as I like my tea a bit stronger. Being my first time brewing my own white tea, it’ll take me a couple of times to get it down. Even with that being said, the tea was very good.

definitely better with two teaspoons of the leaves. The blueberry smell is much stronger than the flavor. It’s subtle and refreshing. Will definitely be buying a bigger tin of this.

This is an excellent white tea. The blueberry flavor is light—fruity, but not sickeningly sweet.

I’m on a berry kick this week I guess, yesterday it was raspberry today blueberry. I wasn’t disappointed with this tea at all like I was yesterday’s and I’m glad, I can only take so many tea failures in a row. I was worried to start out with because the scent is overwhelming when you open the package, but this had a very nice subtle blueberry flavor that goes well with the white tea base. It’s perfect for when I want just a hint of something in my tea without an overwhelming fruit flavor. I find that many companies overwhelm their white teas with fruit flavor and that isn’t what I’m looking for at all, I enjoy white tea and want to be able to taste it. I was kind of surprised not to have any real blueberries in the package since they’re listed in the ingredients. I’m nearly through my sample pack and I assumed they had just fallen to the bottom because they were heavier, but no, I have no blueberries at all.

This is another tea that I think would be great iced, but I’ve enjoyed it hot so much I have yet to get that far.

I have to say, I’m really disappointed with this tea at the moment. I first tried it as part of Adagio’s Sweet Medley sampler, and the tea I remember had a strong, juicy blueberry taste and smell. This tea — maybe it’s just a dodgy batch — smells right, but doesn’t taste of blueberry at all.

When I first started this box yesterday, I assumed I’d let the water cool too much before adding the bag. Today I left it slightly hotter, but this didn’t improve matters. It’s a shame, because I loved the tea I remember. It was like drinking blueberries, and the white base didn’t overpower that at all.

All I can say this time is that this is a very nice cup of white tea (it looks like White Peony to me), but I’m not tasting any blueberries. Perhaps some memories are best left as memories. A shame.
