Citron Green

Fruit Green Blend by Adagio Teas

Green tea from China with the delicate flavors of lemon and lime. A happy marriage of great taste and proven health benefits. Just the right touch of citrus flavors to liven up the cup. Makes a light and refreshing drink that’s popular both hot and iced. If you are new to green tea, this lightly flavored tea may be a good place to start.

Pretty sure this one came from Azzrian… thanks so much for the sample!!
And wow it was not what I expected. Very tart for a green tea but not in a hibby way, definitely a lemon sort of tart, especially in the aftertaste. and yet it’s sweet, like a green tea should be! The “tea” isn’t hidden at all. Despite that, I’m not sure how to rate it. The taste is pleasant… I just haven’t decided how much so!
Will update later. Thanks again Azzrian!

Thought I finished my sample of this awhile ago, but I found a bag in my desk. This seriously does smell like Froot Loops, and if you don’t know the smell of Froot Loops well enough to identify it as such, I feel bad for you. You must’ve had a sad childhood.

Anyway, the taste is a LOT lighter. This tastes more like a basic green with a teensy weensy touch of citrus. But it’s good.

In other, related news, I’m really trying to drink more green tea. The only green tea I genuinely love is genmaicha. I don’t like veggies, so I think that’s why I dislike most green teas. Any recommendations?

I think that this is the same as the Citrus Green that is found as part of the Sweet Melody collection from Adagio. Anyway… that’s what I’m reviewing now.

The flavor is very light and pleasantly sweet. The citrus notes are surprisingly mellow as I would normally expect a more vibrant, bright citrus-y note, but, this is more smooth and serene. I don’t know that I prefer one over the other, even though I would have expected a sunnier citrus flavor I am liking this just fine.

It’s nothing outstanding or remarkable, but, it is pleasant to sip.

This is probably the first of Adagio’s teas that I can see myself re-ordering. After reading what other people have written, I was hesitant to try it because it sounded like it was going to be cloying and blech.

When I popped the lid off the smell punched me in the face. Not enough to draw blood, but enough to make me jerk my head back. Not to be deterred, I measured some out and poured the water over it. It’s at times like these that I am so, so glad that http://steep.it exists because it greatly reduces the chances of me oversteeping anything anymore.

One, I think that the color of this tea is gorgeous. It’s like a very, very pale shade of chartreuse. This may have been improved by the fact that I just got a new mug from Crate & Barrel and I LOVE IT [http://twitpic.com/k481j]. It really does work, too! Keeps the tea hot a good deal longer than my other ones do and I can pick it up without fear of burning myself. AND it’s so very pretty. Feed the birds, Bodum.

The tea itself was surprisingly lovely. I put in about a teaspoon for 8 oz. of water and steeped it for 2 minutes 45. This could probably go to 3 minutes, but I was very afraid of oversteeping it. The flavor was light, and the citrus taste subtle. I get a lemon scent from it, but the taste is more reminiscent of lime.

A lot of people have compared this to froot loops, but I never really ate a lot of froot loops so I can’t confirm or deny on that account. All in all, I found it extremely refreshing. I should also mention that I’m a huge fan of citrus, so if you don’t like it…PBBBBBTHHHT. I’m kidding, but you should obviously avoid this one.

So this is my first taste of loose leaf tea. I let the boiled water sit for about 3 minutes to attempt to reach the 180 degree temp, and then steeped for about 3 minutes as well. Don’t know if I hit the right temperature, but thats what it’s all about, experimentation. The aroma of the dry leaves doesn’t really match the aroma of the tea in my opinion. But the taste is really nice. It’s very basic with a mild hint of the citrus flavor. It leaves a sweet aftertaste on the palette. Great introduction into loose leaf teas!

Second time making this tea, and I steeped for a minute longer than the last time. I was trying to get a stronger citrus flavor out of the leaves, but all I got was a more grassy taste. Oh well, all part of the experimentation.

Backlogging from last night…

This was my first cup of tea in like two weeks. That is absolutely insane. It just shows how crazy school and soccer have been. It felt so relaxing to just sit back and sip on some citron. Really need to order some new tea.

Getting to the end of my tin of this stuff. Great steep this time. Doesn’t have too strong of a vegetable taste and the hint of citrus flavor is coming through. Still not a huge fan of the aroma though.

This is a quiet tea. It’s delightful and nice but not something I would go out of my way to purchase again (I got a sample in my last order). It’s polite and calm, with a taste of lemon chiffon or lemon cookies. But it’s not as bright as I had hoped for a lemon tea.

I upped my rating on this one, after trying the bagged variety and letting it steep for the length of the cup. (I also sampled this after the H bomb of David’s Tea’s Paradise Found, and nothing could be that tart!) This is decent, a nice everyday tea. It’s nothing special, nothing unique, but it has a smooth citrus-y flavor and is pleasant enough. It just doesn’t WOW me.

I totally forgot that I had a sample bag of this. The dry smell of the green version is much more tart/bitter lemon than the rooibos. I remember really enjoying this one, but preferring the rooibos version of the same tea. It smells really grassy today. Overall it is really tasty! There are lots of lemon/lime notes. It doesn’t taste as “fruity pebbles-ish” as the rooibos and the base is much more in the forefront. A really good Adagio tea option.

OMG! This is so amazing. First off, I’m a big fan of lemon and lime, mostly lime. This tea has a very strong flavor of both. Mix that with a nice green tea and you my friend may have found my favorite tea. It’s only my first pot but man do I love it.

So I’ve been a vagrant, but I’ve settled back down state-side and bored out of my mind. Left home alone to my own devices, I’ve taken up to a new level of “tea drinking”. Which, mind you, is what my collegial buddies call my rising alcoholism.
Needless to say, this afternoon I partook in my normal beveraging. But today for the first time in a long while tea has factored in, due to a cold front on my normally lovely East Coast. So I figured I should tell you all. And the most important factor in this story is some lovely lemon flavored vodka.
Lemon flavored vodka in addition to a normally lemony flavored tea is wondrous and warming. I might even have added honey, a sugar I save for when I’ve forgotten to eat. So my friends, as colder night draw upon us, what particular concoctions do you generally prefer as a warming and buzz worthy create.

I have been craving citrus lately – probably due to a decided lack of sunshine down here in the Sunshine State for most of last summer and this winter. Anyway, I’ve been bringing home bags and boxes of oranges, clementines and such, and even smearing Meyer Lemon marmalade on my morning toast.

So, this tasting note may reflect a little bias. Because, oh my goodness, this is so good! A delicate citrus scent while brewing, and a delicate flavor in the cup. The tea is a pale grassy color and a light, bright flavor with no mineral taste that I can detect.

Finally. This is the first non-bag, non-Bigelow tea I’ve ever tried. It was wonderful! It’s the first tea I had my family try, using the Adagio UtiliTEA Kettle I bought them for Christmas, and I just might have converted these coffee-and-soda-drinkers to a healthier lifestyle. Thank you, Adagio, for potentially extending the lives of my loved ones.

Because of my incredibly satisfying first foray into non-bag tea, I am giving this tea the highest rating possible. Maybe one day I will look back at this tea and scoff at my naivete, with the disdain of a runway model toward her high school yearbook photos, but until that day, ignorance is bliss.

I am mainly drinking this because I have a sore throat. AWESOME. It has a nice citrus flavor, but I think there is too much lemon. Would have liked the orange to be more noticeable.

Also I just ordered from Della Terra teas for the first time. I got the chocolate teas try me pack, since they seem to be sold out of s’mores otherwise, and that’s really all I wanted to try.

Much different than I expected from the initial whiff of citrus in the bag. A more woodsy flavor comes out of the tea leaves and you get a kick of orange on the way down. Really great for your nose, seems to be opening up my sinuses.

The smell of the raw (is that appropriate?) tea is very lemon but in a sweet sort of way. I used the boil the water then wait 2 minutes to approximate 180F, and then steeped for three minutes for 1 tsp of tea. The tea really unfurled, but I wasn’t seeing much of a color to the tea itself.

The tea smells less lemony and a little more like cut grass. While not unpleasant, it is not a very strong smell. At first, the taste is lemon, then just hot water at the end. Nice, but not really what I’m looking for. There is this ephemeral taste on the back end that get maybe every other sip that I guess is the green tea.

That taste is getting stronger the deeper into the cup I go and the lemon is lingering more in the aftertaste. I’m still not sure I completely like this tea. It’s good, but I think I should try this iced. I bet it’s really quite refreshing iced.

Oh, wow, I think I finally hit the green tea. That’s interesting. Slightly bitter but without the astringency I normally associate with bitter tea. Not sure if I like this flavor. It isn’t bad or horrifying. I certainly like it fine, just not sure if I want to pay for “like it fine.”

I’m bumping up my rating of this. For some reason this morning I really hit it off well with this tea. Two lovely infusions, and my mind started to play around with ideas for a nice marinade for a mild fish, maybe tilapia. I’ll figure it out eventually.

Hmm, it has been awhile since I’ve drank this, and really just wanted to try it again. It is very lemony, and was a fabulous addition to the fish I cooked for dinner tonight. There was also a sweetness that I didn’t remember from before. I think it is because I steeped it for two minutes this time. I’m continually impressed by how much just a minute of steeping time effects the taste of tea.

Can this tea be renamed to Fruit Loops? Smells and taste like fruit loops.

If you like fruit loops you will like this tea. I like fruit loops.

The leaves for this tea smell absolutely wonderful, light and green, and the tea I brewed from them had the same lovely scent. I was terribly disappointed to take a sip and discover that there was nothing there to taste at all. There was enough green that I was sure I’d actually picked up the tea and not a cup of hot water, but no citrus at all and hardly any tea.

Now, to be fair, I strongly suspect that I’ve kept this tea too long — I discovered the unopened tin recently, and I’m not sure when I acquired it. It’s possible that the flavor was lost before the scent. If it can be made to taste anything like it smells, I would like to try this one again.

On a tip from Cofftea (http://steepster.com/Cait/posts/25139) I tried this again with cooler water and a shorter steeping time. That did bring out a little more taste, but not really a whole lot more — certainly nothing like what the other reviewers are describing — and it produced a very rough-textured tea as well. I think I shall just pour the rest of these sweet-scented leaves into a potpourri dish and look into obtaining a fresh batch for drinking.

Having some fruity reliable Citron Green to wash away the taste of Foxtrot popsicles, which were not a good call on my part.

The first time I had this in a green tea sampler from Adagio it turned out to be the only green tea that I like by itself. I gave away the rest of the samples except for this and the gunpowder that I use for Moroccan mint blends sometimes. Greens aren’t exactly… ahem… my cup of tea.

It tastes like Fruit Loops. That’s the one thing I keep seeing over and over and it’s true. It tastes more like Fruit Loops or some other sort of fruity something or other than a green tea. So, if you don’t like green tea but you do like slightly sweet and fruity flavored teas, this might be something you’d like.

Nice stuff. The perfect proportion of citrus flavor. Downright tasty. This is really good as is, but my wife has found a way to make it even better. She created a custom blend on Adagio, mixing the Citron Green with Oriental Spice making “Citron Spice.” Delicious either hot or iced. I think Citron Green would mix well with other flavors as well.

While a little awkward, due to the fact that if I close my eyes it tastes exactly how I sense a warmed lime Perrier would taste, I think I may end up enjoying this unique sample of green tea. The citrus flavor, while obvious and strong gives this green an otherwise surprisingly refreshing finish. The second steep (3 minutes) was just right and diluted the punch to the face that the first steep gives. Not my favorite, but enjoyable none the less.

Having a cup of this before I give a friend the rest of my sample. Though not because I didn’t like it – I just want to share!

I feel like this is a really balanced tea. I love lemon, and would happily drink teas that make my mouth pucker up, but this is mildly tart citrus flavor with a sweet and smooth aftertaste. You can still tell it’s a green tea, which I appreciate. Very easy to drink.
