Considered a remedy for all ills by the ancient Egyptians, this golden herb remains a modern favorite to promote calm and relieve anxiety. When steeped, these fragrant chamomile blossoms smell of freshly cut apples and produce a rich, golden cup with calming flavor and sweet, floral finish. I can’t say I’m surprised Chamomile is kinda divisive. It has a very distinctly sweet floral apple and honey. But it’s grown on me over time, and it’s pretty much comfort in a cup. Like, there is hardly anything that could faze me when I have a cup of chamomile and honey in my hand.

It’s not something I’d like to drink everyday, mind you. But this is a fair enough chamomile and without a doubt better than the stuff in bags.

I agree. The secret to liking chamomile is to accept it is not tea and it will never taste like tea. Accept it for what it is sweet floral apple and honey.

Sipdown, 189. Backlog from last night (no, I’m not having chamomile tea first thing in the morning).

I’ve made my peace with chamomile in blends, and learned to enjoy its appley, slightly honeyed notes. Last night I decided to brew up a sachet that I’ve had of this for a while, and I threw in some rose buds hoping to add some rosey notes. Unfortunately not. The chamomile was so overwhelming that the rose was totally lost. This was potently strong, appley and honeyed, yes, but also kind of dusty in a way that clung to my throat.

So the moral is, chamomile in blends, sure. Chamomile straight up, not so much.

That’s funny. I grew up drinking chamomile for everything. Cubans have some kind of obsession with it. They call it “Manzanilla”. Stomach ache? Manzanilla! Sleeplessness? Manzanilla! Anxiety? Manzanilla! Headache? Manzanilla! I swear it still makes me feel better when anything is wrong. :)

Woah. So this is the last tea that rounds off the loose teas that I have in my cupboard that I’ve tasted in their bagged incarnations. And this one is probably one of the most different.

I shared the cup with my mom, who was amazed at how fresher and interesting this tastes as opposed to regular, garden-variety chamomile. It brews up to a beautiful light yellow. Let me tell you, this one is a real chore to clean out of the infuser basket in the IngenuiTEA. Or probably any infuser, for that matter. The blossoms, while adorable, break up a lot in the water and require multiple rinses to remove all the pesky residue. It’s pretty annoying.

The other complaint that I have is that after the first layer of beautiful, full blossoms of chamomile, there seems to be a lot of crumbled dust in my sampler tin. I think there might be full blossoms under that, but I really can’t tell. It’s a bit disappointing if they’re all smashed to smithereens in the tin, though.

The taste of this is a lot better than I expected it to be, actually. I like chamomile, but only really when I’m feeling under the weather. It’s always really sweet, almost to the point of being cloying. I’ve found as I’ve drunk more and more tea that I’m losing a taste for stuff like this. I was surprised at how light yet rich this one was! Although it steeps to a pale color, the flavor is very, very refined. I never noticed that chamomile tastes like apples, but it does! Like fresh apples from an orchard, scented my the flowers around them. Or something poetic along those lines.

Anyway, this was pretty enjoyable. Does this mean that I want to drink chamomile every day? No. But this really is much better than a lot of the bagged stuff.

I feel the same way that you do about chamomile. As it is, I rarely drink it straight, it’s usually blended in some kind of mix. Even then, I don’t drink it often.

I’ve noticed that breaking up thing about chamomile blossoms, though. I’ve never brewed chamomile anything in my version of the Ingenuitea, but maybe submerging it in water would help? Like dunking it in a bowl. I’m not sure how feasible that is.


It’s pretty pesky, that damned chamomile… I really don’t want it steeping up with better teas. :(

Have you ever used those T-Sacs? I’ve been thinking that those might work for the small stuff that often escapes a mesh infuser, like chamomille and rooibos.

I know exactly what you mean, it’s sooo ridiculous to clean out of the ingenuitea filter. Good review though.


I find cleaning it is easier if you dump as many of the leaves right away, let it dry, shake it again, and then rinse. Of course if you want to make more and don’t have time to let it dry, just dump then rinse.

A rare event! I’m drinking this tea.. just chamomile with some honey! I keep chamomile is a staple for tummy upsets and such though it tends to be drank rarely.
Shrug, this stuff is probably very old, maybe 3 years? Still tastes like chamomile and drastically better than bagged chamomile, which I used to stock prior to buying this.

I did the 100 minute brazilian jiujitsu sparring run tonight and lived! Overall had a good time, though OMG I feel like a soggy noodle with my limbs all loose, with a sore throat from leftovers of being sick or dehydration.

Despite being whatever chamomile, it does hit the spot. I’m fearing the delayed muscle soreness tomorrow morning.

Chamomile is such a normal thing to me, it hardly occurred to me that I should try to write a tasting note for it.

Also, I will muse here: Since coming to this site I’ve realized Chamomile is not universally loved… go figure :)

Before having Adagio’s Chamomile this was always something I’ve only had in a Bigelow or Twinnings bag. The first time I had Chamomile loose it was an experience. It was almost like watching a movie on a small antenna TV and then seeing it later in an IMAX theater. The flavor was amped up and just more “real” in a way that is difficult to describe.

I’ve found that one tsp. per cup is the way to go on this, at least for my tastes. I’ve added too much (and steeped it too long) and gotten a sharp and unpleasant dirty taste from it.

It also smelled way different than I can remember any bagged Chamomile did. It really did have this sweet and almost apple type scent. When prepared correctly this scent transferred nicely into the taste as well, to an extent.

All in all, I’m not sure if this is the best loose Chamomile out there, but it sure opened my eyes to what Chamomile could taste like.

I’ve smelled apple-y smells from bagged Chamomile, a fresh slightly sharp, but pleasant scent. I’ve used it successfully for an upset tummy.


Huh, I dunno, the stuff I’ve smelled off of bagged Chamomile seems muted and not as sharp… maybe they were stale? :/

And yes, upset stomach and it’s also one of the handful of teas I use to help me get to sleep.


Chamomile is one I am trying to get used to. I feel “itchy” when drinking it, and the hay/apple/barnyard scent it hard for me to deal with sometimes. However, I’ve been trying it in some tea blends, and I have to say, it’s really nice. It relaxes me enough to fall asleep, so that’s a good thing. :)


How do you feel itchy, if you don’t mind my asking…like skin itchy, or maybe alittle agitated? The barnyard scent is what’s been bugging me about it lately, and the taste just doesn’t taste right to me anymore.


More of an itchiness in my throat. A little on the skin, if I’ve had too much, but I’m allergic to a lot of things, so I am not surprised by that.

When I opened the bag, it smelled of honey and flowers. As it steeped I detected a delicate spicy note beneath the honey scent.

This is my first time having chamomile tea, and I can tell that it is a tea that might take some getting used to. The flavor is that of honey with a hint of herb like spice that lingers on the tongue. It’s a very soft tea however and with each sip I found myself growing quite fond of it.

Add to that the seemingly amazing calming quality of this tea and it’s pretty good (upped the rating just because of that, I’m not going to lie haha)

OMG! I did not expect to like this as much as I do! YUMMMMM! This is my first time with an herbal and man is this a winner!!! It smells so delicious and honey-like and really gives me a nice sense of calm. Great stress buster tea for sure! What can I say? I LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE this tea!!

My fiance loves the honey vanilla chamomile bags. I’m thinking of getting him some vanilla bean chamomile and Republic of Tea’s vanilla bean honey.


How good is herbal loose leaf like chamomile? It tastes pretty much a million times better than anything bagged. It almost has an apple-like taste.


Yeah, I may have gone a teeny weenie bit overboard about this tea cuz its the ONLY herbal I like, BUT I need to find some different ways to flavor it besides honey cuz I’m a little bored with that after having it every night for 2 weeks! And of course my gf talked me into buying the biggest amount they have at Adagio so I have a friggin shitload of this stuff in our cupboard now!!! YIKES!

I believe I may have been a bit harsh in my first review of this tea. This is yet another single-bag sample from Adagio. This is really not as good as the other chamomile I tried recently. Mainly because this one seemed to have more of a grassy/hay-like flavor than the general store brand. Also, the bags for this are huge; seriously, if anything, I may have had too much of the dry chamomile to begin with. I love the amber color, honey notes, and the instant soothing effect that it is having on my tummy ache. So I’m very drawn about this one. I’m actually really thankful that they included a sample for free and would really be interested in tasting this compared to their loose leaf variety; mainly to play with ratios.
