Lestrade Blend from Adagio Teas

Steepster Score 9 Ratings Rate This Tea

Lestrade Blend

Green Pu-erh Blend by Adagio Teas

Smoky traces of gunpowder, aged leather, mellowed with a trace of hazelnut. A distinguished, if tired, blend.

Inspired by BBC’s Sherlock, which I am in no way affiliated with. This is created purely for my own enjoyment.

I have to admit that I am a huge Tumblr and Sherlock fan. I’ve been wanting to try some of these blends for a very long time. This was the only Sherlock specific tea I ordered at the moment; but I do plan on more in the future. I have to say the first thing that I thought when I opened this was “mmm manly!”
This first cup will be without milk/sugar as I usually take my tea. This brews up far darker than I would have at first expected. The first sip of this was very interesting! The nut aspects are totally there. It has a certain smokey-ness to it that was pretty enjoyable. I think that this is a pretty nice blend. I think something about it screams “wake up blend.” I think that this tea is much more strong than ones I normally choose for myself, but nevertheless it is excellent. I think that this is a perfect “character tea.”
I must admit that these Adagio teas are very excellent for the price/amount. I am very pleased with the quality of flavor I’m getting from these. I’m going to be trying this tea with milk/sugar tomorrow just for reference.

I find it hilarious that the two reviews on this tea both say this tea is “manly.” This is probably the best description of what this tastes like. I am having an up and down week, but today was very lovely! I got to shop and find a few new art items. I’ve not drawn/painted in a good long time; so to get back to it is pretty damn exciting. I did at least one piece that I’m fairly sure I’m proud of. I also received my pocket mirror from the “drawgabbydraw” etsy. Her art is super cute! :3
Back to the tea then! It is currently tied with “Driven Innocence” for my top Adagio tea atm. This one is a tea I just crave when I’m feeling under the weather; more like when I need a quick kick in the butt! This tea has a very distinct “umph.” I would recommend this to anyone who wants a strong, manly, but crave-able nut flavored tea.

So this tea somehow sneaked into the back corner of my cupboard. Like the other posters on here have said, this is one manly tea! I always take mine with milk just to round out the flavors a bit. The main flavors are smoky, earthy, hay, and nuttiness. I’m not 100% sure I could pick out on my own that it was hazelnut, but it is in there! A great tea for someone looking to try a blend that is something completely different. Many blends I’ve had over the past few years of tea exploration want to be beautiful, fruity, and sweet; but this one just wants to be a good cuppa. I appreciate that a lot. No frills or embellishments, just really good tea.

I must admit that this tea tastes much better today than my first crack at it. I have a sneaking suspicion that tea is yet another food item that when shipped to my state, needs to “relax” before the flavors are right. I brewed this at a much lower temp. for a much shorter time and the hazelnut flavor came out in a much greater way. Before this was more leathery-pu’erh tasting. Now it is more grounded with the hazelnut.

I have to say that this tea really lasts in comparison to other flavored teas. I am on my 3rd steep of this today and I think I could pull a 4th.
My husband really surprised me with this one. He doesn’t like eating nuts, but he LOVES this blend. It is not what I would have expected at all! Out of the 4 teas I recently received this is his favorite; one that he actually asks me to brew! He doesn’t do that very often, so this is a great tea for him.

This was one of my favorite blends from this Adagio fandom series. It has great sturdy flavor and stands up well to multiple brewings. It’s smooth. I can’t detect hazelnut as a separate note.

It smelled stronger than expected and appeared darker than expected. Again a mix of things I’d never tried before, I liked the second cup better. And as always, I added a bit of sugar to it to counteract the kind of smokey, nutty tastes. I may add a little milk next time too. Overall it’s not bad. Not good for my sweet tooth cravings, but good for just a strong tasting, “solid” tea.

This truly is a very manly tea— not to mention the perfect character tea for Greg Lestrade. Hazelnut and pu erh taste wonderful together, deliciously earthy and nutty, and gunpowder green tea rounds out the flavour nicely.

This is the manliest tea of all time. I brewed it way too long this time so I’ll halve the time next time, but with cream and sugar it’s still quite nice. Plain I felt like it was going to make me grow a beard, it was so manly! This tea makes me think of being out all day in the pouring rain, getting soaked to the bone, and then getting back to your log cabin, changing into soft, dry clothes and having a warm, strong cuppa to wake you up and warm you up. Incredibly comforting. Love love love.

First time I drank this tea, I was testing Cara (the one who made this blend) AND SHE PASSED. Lestrade definitely would taste like this if he was turned into tea. Seriously. The second you open the pouch, it’s screaming Lestrade.
Slightly smoky and musky flavour, but oh it was good.

Because Lestrade is my faaaaave.
I needed some waking up to do and the last time I drank him, I couldn’t sleep till 3 or 4 in the morning. It’s noon right now so I’ll be fiiineeee.
I really like Lestrade. Smoky and musky gooood.

I LIKE LESTRADE.

SO GOOD.
It’s a green/pu erh/black tea blend so don’t drink at night or else you’ll be up at 3am wondering why you thought it would be a good idea.

This tea is a very full tea. It’s got a great scent, a lot of flavor, and leaves you feeling like you’ve just had a meal. The gunpowder and the pu erh dante give this tea a really great smoky, rich flavor, while the hazelnut brings it down and lends it a homey scent and taste that makes it comforting as well. It’s very much a BAMF tea, but a BAMF that likes its muffins. I think it would lend itself well to whatever you wanted to try with it, be it honey, lemon, cream, sugar, whatever. But personally I think this makes a smashing cup without any frills.

The only downside, and this is pretty much exclusive to me, is that black tea tends to give me a stomach ache, and I can already tell that this is strong enough to cause some problems if I drank more than one cup in a couple hours. But if you’re not affected by such things, then no worries!

I love how when you add milk and sugar- as I do to black teas- it gets very hazel-nutty, which you can’t taste without them. A very good wintertime, cozy drink :)
