Rooibos Vanilla

Rooibos Tea by Adagio Teas

According to the International Ice Cream Association, Vanilla is by far the most popular flavor, getting a full 23% of all ice cream consumption. Inspired by this love of vanilla, Adagio has created Vanilla Tea. Combining the delectable flavor of sweet vanilla beans and Rooibos herbal tea, I’ll scream, you’ll scream, we’ll all scream for… Vanilla tea! Naturally caffeine-free, so enjoy it anytime of the day!

I bought this tea to make tisane at home for my girlfriend. It is pretty good for a flavored tea. I would recommend it by itself only if you know how to make your own blends at home. (Chamomile, Mint, Cinnamon, etc. are some of the flavors you can play with.)

This is one of my favorite teas! It’s so versatile! I love to drink it by itself, with and without cream and sugar. I also love to mix it with other teas! I particularly like mixing it with some masala chai, but it’s also good with herbal berry “teas”.

I personally like the taste of Rooibos, and I felt that the vanilla overpowered the rooibos taste. Overall it was a good cup of tea, but could have been better.

You definitely taste the vanilla, but it’s not overpowering. It’s very smooth and creamy. I highly recommend this one. I served this at a tea party this past Saturday along with two other teas. Over 100 ladies in attendance; and this was the favorite.

To enjoy drinking this tea, attention to preparation is key. I recommend using a very fine mesh infuser or a good quality fill-your-own tea bag – the rooibos pieces are so tiny compared to your typical loose tea. That said, I prepare this by filling a mesh tea ball halfway, then pouring 180-degree water over the tea ball, no steeping.

This tea has a very nice spicy flavor, wonderfully smoothed by the vanilla. Prepared with no steeping as I do, the flavor is still very full, rich, and satisfying. Would go great with some vanilla ice-cream or light cookies. Heck, even something with a stronger flavor like ginger bread would work, but gingersnaps would totally outpower it. Must be time for some dessert.

That said, that it’s a great tea and I need a better infuser to prepare it properly, I do have a slight allergic reaction to it – my lower lip puffs up immediately after the first sip. Nothing to worry about, but something I’ll keep in mind if I have a presentation to give within an hour or so after drinking some of this.

Meh. Maybe I didn’t steep this long enough? It just tastes like hot cigars. And if I want that I drink Tea Spot’s Red Rocks. I’m really disappointed in Adagio’s Rooibos Sampler. I’ll give this another shot with a longer, stronger steep and add some milk & sweetener.

Better this time. Longer steep, turbinado sugar, soy milk, thick mug instead of thin tea cup. Soothing, like hot chocolate. But ultimately boring

Great afternoon tea. Very vanilla!

I got this as a free sample from Adagio and I though I’d give it a shot tonight since it is caffeine free.

Bleh. I made it through half a cup of this before I couldn’t drink it anymore. The taste of vanilla is barely there. This tea just wasn’t doing it for me.

Pretty nice, satisfying tea. Just the right amount of vanilla flavour. Although I did find it slightly bitter/astringent (I know those two things are different, but sometimes they seem to overlap). It could be because I just had a mug full of green tea, and my mouth hadn’t recovered yet.

I would have it again, and I’m pretty sure I’d like it more with some added milk. I usually do that with rooibos, and don’t know why I didn’t think of it this time.

This was the bagged version, named “Vanilla Rooibos” (words reversed) – but a visit to the Adagio website told me that it’s the same stuff as their loose tea. Thanks to Starfevre for the sample.

I have to agree with all of the other reviewers. The vanilla smell was more intense than the flavor, which made me sad. Maybe I will steep for a bit longer next time. It was still a good tasting rooibos, though. Will drink more soon, undecided if I will buy again.

I love rooibos tea and vanilla, but this isn’t my favorite combination of the two. Smells weird – I can’t put my finger on it. There’s a note in there that’s reminiscent of… wet wood? It’s mildly off-putting. Not as sweet as the rooibos I enjoy, with only a slight vanilla taste. I don’t completely hate it, though. I guess I’ll use this when I’m out of all of the GOOD rooibos teas in my pantry…

Oddly enough, this rooibos is actually very easy and pleasant to drink. Upon first smelling, it reminded me almost exactly of Thai iced tea, and when I took my first sip I knew that it would taste good with a nice helping of sugar (I’d have added condensed milk, but I don’t have any on me currently). Sure enough, it was pretty good sweetened and lacked any of the medicinal tastes of plain rooibos. My only complaint is that it just didn’t brew very strong at 5 minutes: as an iced tea it was conspicuously weak.

I can’t say much on how it tastes unsweetened, but this blend certainly makes a nice sweet tea. Just make sure you brew it strong.

I enjoy this blend; it’s soothing & mellow. The vanilla is undetectable unless you add a bit of sugar, as other reviews have mentioned.

I think I had this alone once and I liked it, but I’ve mostly been adding it to other teas (black) to add a nice vanilla note. I like it that way.
My usual use for it is to add it to chamomile and spearmint or peppermint….which I think Adagio calls Foxtrot, but why buy it when I have all the ingredients?
Anyway, my point? A nice vanilla flavor to a fine Rooibos.
I must admit I’m new to Rooibos.

I have the same problem with this tea as I do with Adagio’s Rooibos Caramel — it smells heavenly, and is smooth to drink, but the vanilla is hardly there. Much to my surprise, I like the Celestial Seasonings vanilla rooibos better, and I’m not a big CS fan. I did get a sample of Upton’s version, too, so hopefully that will be better than either.

This is always a good caffeine free staple. It’s sweet, simple, and comforting.

I LOVE vanilla so this tea is always a special treat! It’s delicious brewed as is or as a tea latte.

Rich and slightly nutty, this is probably my favourite straight-up vanilla rooibos, likely because the vanilla is so strong and creamy, which makes for a wonderful contrast against the rooibos. It’s one of the few “teas” I absolutely have to keep on hand.

Wow, I like Rooibos and Vanilla, who knew the combination could do this! I simply did not like this at all, too much vanilla and it brought the bad tastes that I didn’t even know existed out of the Rooibos.
