I’m surprised this has such a low overall rating. Oh wait I’m not, because I always like things that get average ratings hahaha. I took a gamble and bought 3 oz of this, since it was $3 more over the sample for at least 2 oz more.

Adagio also sent me a sample of the birthday tea since my birthday is coming up. We meet again.

So anyway this one, I can definitely see how people do not like it because it is not up front about its mintiness. But aren’t candy canes like that? That’s what I’ve always liked about them, sweet at first and then the burst of peppermint. Or maybe I have no idea what a candy cane is like anymore, but I like this.

It’s also a bit creamy, I think it might be even better with just a touch of milk but I’m too busy basking in the fact I’m drinking an Adagio flavored tea with nothing in it and enjoying myself.

Definitely like this one better than Candy Cane Lane and Santa’s Secret. Who knew?

In case you are interested in the other accomplishment that happened in this apartment: Sebastian the parakeet actually climbed down to the lid of seeds and ate by himself. So proud.

This came out a bit too overpowering with the mint last night. It has such a strong cooling sensation for such a lack of strong mint taste.

I added a bit of milk to try to make it creamier, which did the job, but also took away from the actual mint taste and took away from the sweetness. So I guess next time I’ll have to add agave if I add milk.

It also came off a bit more brisk than my last mug. But still, it’s so far my favorite candy cane type tea.

Another tea from my Adagio Holiday Sampler gift set that arrived this morning. Again it’s not romantic in the usual sense but I asked for this for Valentines day as I really wanted to try them. The set has some yummy sounding flavours/blends.

Once steeped this tea is dark brown/red with a sweet peppermint scent.

This tea is refreshing and sweetly minty but is rather on the subtle side. You can tell it’s peppermint but at this point it’s more peppermint tea rather than candy cane tea. :(
The more I drink the stronger the mint becomes and it’s making my mouth tingle like mouthwash does. Unfortunately the sweetness is lost to this thick tingling peppermint mist and it has truly taken the candy part of the equation.
As a peppermint tea it’s nice but not special.

Overall this tea is nice but it’s nothing compared to Della Terra’s Candy Cane.

That’s the last of this sample now from my Holiday Cheer gift box. I’m thinking about what I can do with the cute little tin that’s left over. It’s only large enough for 5 teabags but perhaps I can keep matcha in them and re label the tin. That’s the best I can think of so far.

I did my food shopping earlier and filled my fridge completely with fresh fruit, salad and veg so tonight I plan on doing a salad bowl with some fresh bread for dinner. We (me and my husband) also went walking with my parents and their three dogs which was nice, I just need to get out of the house and get used to leaving the cats on their own for a couple of hours. Since Ebony died I am on alert mode 24/7 and I really just need to relax.

Tired and achey from the walk I have a slice of Christmas come early with this Candy Cane tea and a few pink wafer biscuits as an extra treat. :) Hold on to the little things because it’s those things that get you through the day.

Not my favorite candy cane flavored tea, I definitely preferred 52Teas version, but, it is a pleasant enough tea as long as it’s not steeped too long. The black tea is strong and astringent but I find that the flavor tends to soften the astringency enough so that it’s palatable.

It’s enjoyable.

The smell and first sip of this tea remind me of butter rum candies. There are large chunks of peppermint candy in here, which I think is the source of the slightly minty flavor. If you can imagine using a peppermint stick as a swizzle stick in your hot buttered rum, that’s pretty close to the flavor. The butter rum flavor is rather odd and artificial.

I’m sure there’s some tea in there somewhere, buried under everything else that’s going on. It may even be good tea, but I can’t tell.

It seems there are several custom blends on Adagio called Candy Cane. The one I have is by Megan Pederson.

I give it a “meh.”

I think I’m going to have to upgrade my rating of this somewhat. It still has a rather odd butter rum flavor, but after letting the tea sit in the cupboard a while, the mint flavor is coming more to the fore, and I am enjoying drinking this somewhat more. Did I mention that I am a sucker for mint?

The tea is very dark, and still does not assert itself much over the other flavors going on, and the butter rum flavor is not as strong as I remember it. It’s not my favorite flavored tea, but I can enjoy an occasional pot.

I was super excited for this tea, yet super afraid. I absolutely love candy canes and anything mint related, so I of course had to order a sample of this one. And yet, I’ve had not so stellar results in the past from Adagio flavored black teas. I’ve always found the smell so tempting, but the flavor lacking and needing sweetener and/or milk, which I’m not opposed to doing sometimes, but still…

Well, the smell, like I expected, is definitely tantalizing. It’s everything I would want a candy cane tea to smell like – nice and minty combined with comforting, creamy vanilla.

So I sit here, waiting anxiously to get my mint fix, and then I finally taste it… Go away black tea, you’ve ruined it! Ah, I had my fears. Believe me, I absolutely love black tea of all kinds, but maybe not so much flavored – or maybe not so much from Adagio – or maybe not so much when it interferes with mint.

Either way, maybe it’s a taste that will grow on me, but the bitterness that comes from that base is rather disconcerting. I’m going to try to add some cream to this next time. If that fails, I’ll add some peppermint to it. And it if that fails, too, I won’t be too far away from finishing the sample.

Meh, I wanted to like you Candy Cane. I really did. I’ll try to work on fixing you, okay?

Yummm! Spent 3 hours waiting for gas today, watched a cop get suckerpunched in the face, and now I need to relax with a cup of hot tea. KallieBoo or Tattooed_tea sent this to me as a sample (I’m so sorry I don’t remember…it’s been hectic!). I love candy cane flavored and scented things. I’m a christmas freak :) So I was super excited when I was sent this without even asking.

The dry smell smells mostly of black tea with a hint of peppermint. Smells delicious, just not necessarily like a candy cane. Brews a nice dark brownish black color. Lightly sweetened with German Rock Sugar. Nice dark sweet tea with a hint of peppermint. Absolutely delicious, but does not really remind me of a candy cane. I think that I expected more of the peppermint taste.

I would highly recommend!

Love the variety of flavors in the sampler, love the tins, hate that they’re bags. Decided to make this in latte form- 2 bags, 8oz water, steeped 7min 40 sec., added 8oz milk and reheated.

Before I add the milk, I admit the tea itself looks kinda scary… I steeped it so conentrated for long that there’s a ring of tea schtuff around the water line. I can’t imagine what it would look like if I made it concentrated enough for a gallon of tea…

Once I add the milk, it looks much more normal. Kinda like chocolate milk actually. Not a whole lot of aroma (due to the milk I’m sure), but I am getting a faint wiff of mint.

WHOA This is abso-freakin-lutely amazing! The candy cane is much lighter than I expected, but there is definitely a minty flavor as well as a sweetness. I doubt this would need any sugar even if you normally sweeten your tea lattes. And the black tea base… almost gives it a chocolatey quality… which is good cuz I like my candy cane/mint best when mixed w/ chocolate. Not something that screams “THIS IS TEA!” …but INCREDIBLY good. …and don’t be scared by the steeping time I used, it definitely needs it.

Made my mom a tea latte- used 2% milk. She enjoyed it, but wasn’t as thrilled as I was.

Sipdown tea #9!
This tea has a bit of a warmer note to it other then the candy cane aroma. The flavor is suuupppeeerrrrr minty. It’s sweet, and minty. That’s pretty much it…

Thank you, JoeCool (Nichole) for sharing some of the tea bags of this Adagio holiday gem. :) I’ve used candy cane in blends before, but hadn’t tried the tea bagged version yet.

In fact, I haven’t tried any of Adagio’s bagged tea yet! So this is a first!

This tea is delightfully buttery, creamy and minty. The flavor isn’t too strong, but instead of thinking about candy canes when I sip, I imagine those buttery after dinner mints that melt in your mouth. Still, this is like deliciously sweet candy. I love the flavor and the bits of candy in the bag (always a nice touch).

I’m adding this to my 2011 holiday shopping list – to help unwind after the whirlwind of activities!

Backlogging…

Got this in a gift pack (bagged). I enjoyed this yesterday while playing RAGE on my xbox 360. (I’m a huge gamer…I should start a series on what teas go with video games!) I started out the day by playing Alice, then decided I wanted to shoot people instead so I opted for RAGE

Oh, the TEA. Sorry. Easily distracted. ;) This tea is very minty – which I love – and with a name like Candy Cane, it should be. It brews up hearty and strong, and is minty to the last drop.

I think I do like Candy Cane Lane better – but I do tend to enjoy green teas over black teas anyway. Overall, this is a holiday delight – and a must-try for mint fans.

And RAGE is wonderful…

By Odin, that’s minty! The tea smells more like candy canes dry. Not really the flavour I was looking for.

Not sure how I feel about this tea. It wasn’t what I expected at all but then, I’m not a big candy cane girl so I wasn’t expecting much. But I was expecting some mint. Sadly, my lip gloss with a mint tingle has a more easily identifiable mint than this tea. The mint here is pretty much limited to a fresh mouth feeling after a sip – just a little tingle (again, even my lip gloss is stronger). But that fresh minty feeling is quickly covered by something… musty? Not like attic musty but like wild musk musty. It is the taste that makes a muscadine differ from a white grape. That’s not to say this tasted like grape or muscadine, of course. It’s just that was the musky/musty flavor I was getting. Almost like a vanilla flavor but not quite. Vanilla bean maybe? Cream? I’m not sure. But it made for a much darker, heartier flavor than I expected from something named after a candy.

Thanks Mitch for sending some of this my way.

This is my first Adagio tea yay. I’m just waiting for it to cool and it smells sweet and peppermint-y.

First sip the black base is pretty overwhelming and quite honestly I’m barely getting peppermint. The black base reminds me of the Kusmi teas I’ve tried, which I thoroughly enjoy. However, a tea named “Candy Cane” I expect to get some mint from. I’ll keep sipping away to see how it pans out.

This one smelled oddly spicy, which really threw me off. Luckily, it tastes quite good. The mint seems very subtle, which is really nice since a lot of the mint teas I’ve tried have more of a strong mint flavor. This lets a lot of the black base shine through, giving it an almost chocolate-y complement to the mint. It’s lovely.

Thanks so much, Mitch! I really enjoyed all of the teas you shared with me.

Bye, Candy Cane tea. You were lovely and delicious, but Adagio charges insane shipping to Canada, so I probably won’t ever get to order you.

Sigh.

I only have enough for one more cup of this one from my sample, and I’m sad already.

Backlog—
This tea is very minty, sweet, and creamy. More amped up than a plain peppermint black tea. I blended this with vanilla black tea and added milk, and it was heavenly! I’ll definitely reorder this during the holidays. And, I have to admit, I love seeing the cute little candy cane bits in the dry leaves :]

This tea has a bit more of a “fresh” feel to it than I would expect. I guess it’s from the actual candy canes that are in the tea. (Really! I saw several, with tea stuck to them, in the tin.)I think the thing I like most about this tea is that it’s clearly tea with peppermint in it, rather than a minty tisane that has some tea to it.

I’m the kinda gal where I may have one candy cane during the holiday season and I’m good. I even generally prefer they be the flavored candy canes as I’m not a huge peppermint fan. I leave the after dinner mints cuz to me they’re just meh. I wasn’t terribly excited when my tea of the month arrived with this tea in it but I’ve had good experiences with teas that I wouldn’t normally buy that were sent to be through this subscription (I’m looking at you blueberry one…).

I waited until after Thanksgiving (because it’s not cool to rush into Christmas) and had this over the weekend. I’m happy to report that the candy cane is not overwhelming (which will be disappointing to those who are looking for that). It’s there, but sweeter (might have been the brown sugar splenda I always add). Overall, the cup was very enjoyable and put me in about as much holiday spirit as I’m capable of mustering. I wouldn’t seek it out outside the season, but it’s a nice cup for the holidays.

This tea is just what I needed to remove the exclamation mark after my Bah Humbug! I’m certainly not going to go around pooping Christmas cheer, especially not with a visit to my mother’s looming, but I probably won’t kill anyone either. Pretty impressive progress for just drinking tea.

I will warn those who err on the side of more leaf, I do the same and today the candy canes are REALLY strong. I’m sure my second steep tomorrow morning will be a little more mellow and more my speed.

This smells AWESOME prior to the steep. While steeping it’s equally Candy Cane but a hint of “woods” smell underneath. After steeping it’s still minty but the black tea blends with it more noticeably. First and Second sips make me raise an eyebrow and I try and guess what I am tasting in the middle of each sip. First you taste the black tea…then something…not sure what…then the Candy Cane at the end. The Minty Fresh Aftertaste is nice but not overwhelming. It’s weird but the first thought that popped into my head for that middle flavor was almost a cigarette or cigar…not sure why…maybe the way it blends with the black tea!? Regardless this is far different from other minty teas I have had. It’s fairly good. It’s intriguing. I think the highlight of this tea for me is the prior to steeping aroma and the aftertaste. I will certainly review again.

I only have 1 more cupsworth left after this one. It’s tasting pretty good today…must have been the correct amount of loose leaf, water temp, infusion length, and all the stars must have been align or something…it’s better than my other attempts…woot.

Needed some Minty Freshness. Wanted to see if I could steep this better than my first attempt yesterday…success!!!

Better each time I try it…I’m finding less is more…if you know what I mean…also nice iced…

Backlogging from earlier today…drank this as my 2nd cup. I’m lowering my rating on this a little bit because I have found other Candy Cane ones I like better than this one…sorry Adagio! I still like this ok – it’s just not my fave…

Steeped a lesser amount of the loose leaf…lighter in color but nice!

I made this cold. I thought it would taste better that way, but it tastes a tad better than hot, but not that much. From the tin, it smells like caramel. When i cold brewed it, It tasted like very sweet, minty, creamy caramel. I didn’t enjoy the creamy caramel part of it so much. It makes me want to gag just a little. I do love how there were bits of candy cane in there though.

I can’t wait until I’m through with this. I hate to have tea go to waste…

The smell when I first opened it got me really excited about trying it. However, when I did try it I was unimpressed. There was very little candy cane like flavor and I needed to add milk and sugar just to get it to taste like anything other than slightly like black tea. I was very disappointed but relieved that I got it as a free sample and didn’t have to pay for it because if I had I would’ve sent it back if I could.

I’m on the second steeping, the first was 4 minutes and this one is 5.

I love that I’ve found a peppermint tea that has a black tea base instead of herbal. There was a piece of candy cane in my steeping about an inch long, which is why I opted for a second steeping.

The aroma is very strong. I have it sitting on the floor while I write on the couch and it’s still a delightfully strong smell. I can’t actually see the color since I’m using a dark mug (just trying to cover all the tasting basics;)).

While the second steeping is still quite minty, it’s not worth it except for that. Not much tea flavor leftover. It also appears to be a bit oily in my cup – is this the tea or something I’m doing wrong, you can see it on the side of the cup as I drink it down, too.

The tea is good though, regardless of the other stuff. I enjoy it and have given it as a gift, too. Regarding the note someone mentioned earlier (forgive me for not remembering) mine does not have a name attached to it but I do also have the peppermint candy blend which does have a name attached which I do not remember at the moment).

My but it has been too, too long, my friends. I’m enjoying a steaming mug of this delightful tea and trying not to be a bit sad that the amount in the tin is dwindling. I’m heading to Asia in Feb and trying to enjoy all the teas I currently have instead of purchasing more so I can purchase more treasures overseas.

Anyway, after reading my previous post on this tea I know that the oiliness in my tea is just the amazing quality of our local water. I use a Brita filter but that is apparently not enough to provide me with high quality water. Sigh.

I love this tea regardless. It is a wonderful way to start my morning as I head to the office to face the barrage of emails and meetings. Thank you Adagio for a caffeinated version of peppermint tea!
