Honeybush Blueberry Pancake

I liked this one well enough – it was nice and sweet and pleasantly breakfasty. Put in one cube of sugar and brewed five minutes. The black tea comes through without being overshadowed with the non-artificial flavoring. This was a leftover with an advent calendar, Day 14, that I was inconsistent when going through.

Tasting Notes:
Smells light blueberry flavoring and vanilla out of the bag. There is a slight sweetness and cream from the blueberry flavors and honeybush had a slight toastiness. All notes were pretty faint though. I say good enough but not good enough to purchase again. Hopefully, I can find a better blueberry herbal somewhere else.

I’ve had a bit of a rollercoaster experience with this tea. The first time I had it, the maple came off as a weird synthetic smoke. The blueberry flavor is pretty fake as well, like the blueberries in store-bought muffins. I had it with milk, and I sort of liked it, but it was also fake and weird. Then I started having it with almond milk, which really draws out the nuttiness of the honeybush (plus a bit of pepper, but not too much). I don’t really notice any maple now, but I’m still getting the fake blueberry. It’s not bad in its fakeness, just not fresh tasting. It’s hard to know how to rate this because I quite enjoy it now, but only with almond milk. I only have one serving left, and I’d actually consider purchasing this one again now that I know the best way to drink it.

I got a sample of this with my sample size order of this! It was part of a week long sample set for their tea community thing. It looks like they have a subscription of some sort where everyone tries the same tea on the same day and interacts about it. So kind of like what we do when multiple people have the same advents. It seems like an interesting and creative way to engage their customers and I’m kind of surprised I don’t see other tea companies doing something similar.

The sip on this tastes a little tart and weak in flavor. The finish is really nice though. I get blueberries and maple and a hint of something sweet. I guess the maple is supposed to carry the idea of pancakes without the actual flavor of pancakes being a part of the mix. This isn’t bad, but I’m not crazy about it either. I don’t think I would have ordered it had I tried it before, but the tiny roommates will likely dig this and plow through the sample bag.

Adagio Advent Calendar – Day 15

I’m surprised to see another dessert-y honeybush blend after yesterday’s banana bread version. Not that I’m complaining, I loved that one and this sounds yummy too!

It’s fairly tasty, but it came out a little weak. The honeybush combined with the maple does give a good approximation of pancakes, and there’s a lovely soft blueberry note that strengthens toward the end of the sip. I get a lovely oat flavor as well, so maybe it’s more like blueberry maple oatmeal for me?

I like it! But I don’t think I like it quite enough to order it.
