As black blends go, this is really good. It’s rich and full bodied, malty and slightly smoky, with the tiniest edge of astringency. I’m not 100% sure which teas have gone into this blend, but they certainly work really well together! I had a big cup of this last night after an enjoyable but tiring day at work, and it was absolutely just the thing.

Angrboda was kind enough to share a sample of this with me, so it’s her I have to thank for this experience. This is the most I’ve enjoyed a black blend in a long time, and it’s made me interested to try some of the other plain black teas I’ve got hidden away in my stash. There again, I doubt any of them will be quite as good as this…but you never know!

A really enjoyable tea. I’d go so far as to say that if you’re any kind of black tea fan, you really need to give this one ago if you’ve not already. It’s awesome.

I’m glad you liked it! :D A&D generally deliver some pretty good stuff, I’ve found.

I really enjoyed this one too. Now that this & my Tiger Assam are gone, I need to polish off the Caravan, so that I can justify buying all 3 again. Not that I need justification! :D

Tea #4 Great Canadian Traveling Tea Box

I really like this. I drank it all day at work today. This could be the everyday, go to, black tea that I’ve been searching for. It’s a really nice deep, rich, dark, bold black with out being astringent. It resteeps well. It’s not fussy about my haphazard steeping times at work. This is pretty close to a perfect black for me. I really enjoyed it.

I have this one, but have neglected it. I drank it a couple of days ago and was reminded of how GOOD it was. They do have some pretty Damn Fine Tea… :)

Dexter

If their other blends are anything like this, I would have to agree. I’m going to keep my eyes open for the next free shipping sale and will order some then.

Terri HarpLady

I especially love the Tiger Assam, and Caravan is good too if you like smokey teas :)

ifjuly

I really like this one too, and haven’t had a bad A&D so far. Happy you dig it, sounds like in a similar way—unfussy and great for everyday black tea longing.

well, i almost died on thursday morning haha… what i thought was like muscular hip pain, ended up being a kidney infection… i’ve had for seven months… they never caught it because i never had any pain in my back or symptoms of it.. i started to throw up blood and black stuff that looked like tar on thurs morning, and ended up in emerg on various iv’s filtering magic potions through me to try to make me okay. They’ve put me on an antibiotic that is supposed to counteract anthrax (which i guess tells me what kind of shape my body is in)… and with that. .i’m supposed to stick to (but limit my amount) of rooibos tea and herbals.. the caffeine and certain ingredients in various teas do not bode well with the medications… so i’ve been good up until today, but i needed some real tea, lol you can only stick to herbals and rooibos for so long before going crazy. I have about half a baggie of this blend left… its one of my favorites, and i’m hoping i can find a good swap for it ASAP! because shipping on it is crazy! … its a nice strong, musky blend, perfect for fall, and perfect for cheating on my ‘tea vacation’ ha ha hopefully i didn’t just do something i’ll regret!

JustJames

!!! no dying!!! i have some herbals i’ll send you…. amaretto by david’s and pink passionfruit. no swap necessary. what about the rishi red ginseng herbal? i have a bit. red ginseng boosts the immune system.

message me if you want a delivery.

absolutely NO death!!!

Courtney

Eek. That’s always scary – I hope you get better quickly!

Aimee Popovacki

lol thanks… i think the antibiotics are making me feel worse than anything else now! i just can’t believe i went seven months like that!

Bonnie

Be careful of herbals too. Stick to the rooibos or homebuyer and fruits or flavors (vanilla, cocoa and so on) but no added things like ginsing without asking the doctor. Why? Certain herbs that are normally harmless can be stimulating or can increase the strength (or decrease) of medications. For instance…I don’t drink grapefruit juice because it interacts with blood pressure meds.

Bonnie

Honeybush not homebuyer stupid autocorrect!

Courtney

Also, what exactly does this one taste like? I love the description but it doesn’t actually say what’s in it haha!

JustJames

bonnie makes a good point. i will send you my red ginseng rishi on condition that you do NOT put it in your mouth without asking your pharmacist (doctors don’t know squat about medical interactions). it’s the rule i’m required to live by.

Aimee Popovacki

yeah, i don’t have the tin, i got it in a swap.. so i’m not even certain of whats in it.. it tastes like a strong orange pekoe … which makes sense because they only have four types of tea, an assam, an earl grey, a russian caravan, and this one… its a little bit more smokier than a typical orange pekoe and a bit stronger.. i love it…..

that makes sense about the herbals… i’ve mostly just been drinking the rooibos and then organic spearmint.. but i’m getting so bored of them.. although the way the black tea is making me feel right now.. i can see why i was told to stay away… i almost feel drunk from it! it must be the caffeine!

JustJames

well, if your kidneys are impaired they may not be filtering things right, as well the diuretic affect could be playing with things. maybe call the pharmacy and confess and ask for advice. seems a little over the top, but it’s nice to have fully functioning kidneys at the end of your life, hmmm?

Aimee Popovacki

hahaha… this is true… i’m drinking some water right now to try and calm it all down… lol not regretting drinking this though!

yyz

Scary, I’m glad that you are finally on the road to recovery. There are several herbals that support kidney function but once again speak to your doctor about them.

I am sipping my last cup of this tea at the office. It makes a good office tea- it’s sturdy and takes pretty well to the office “mini moo” tubs of half & half. Once I finish my self-imposed tea ordering moratorium, then I might have to order a new tin.

I accidentally slept in this morning. I say accidentally because it is Sunday, and by sleeping in today, I won’t be able to go to sleep at a decent time tonight, so I will be tired for work tomorrow. Woe is me, ha, ha.

I needed something to get me moving. So I pulled this one out of the cupboard. It smells of a strong yet somewhat sweet black tea blend. The tea tastes full bodied, it is slightly malty. There is a slight natural sweetness from the black teas. It is very smooth. I anticipated a bit if astringency but there was none. Wow! I am impressed. It is making my stomach a bit raw because I haven’t eaten anything yet, but I am starting to feel a bit more human now.

Another one from the awesome Terri Harplady. This is a smooth tea. Very good. I think the Tiger is my favorite of the two, although I’d be happy to drink either one.

Terri HarpLady

Yay! I’m glad you like it! I agree, Tiger is better, but this one is also tasty. :)

Sil

this one is my second favourite..but at the same time…who needs 4oz of a second favourite when there’s a first favourite! haha

Thanks to Dexter3657 for the generous sample of this :)

This is one I’ve been wanting to try for a while now so I was thrilled to get this swap package in the mail today.

This is definitely a strong black that could really wake a person up. It’s deep and smooth. The only downside for me was the smokiness. I hadn’t read any reviews and I wasn’t expecting it at all. I have only smelled and turned down smoky teas thus far, and I think the smokiness was ultimately a deal breaker. Perhaps I will try to expand my smoky tea repertoire and come back to this one in a while, since every other aspect of this tea was amazing.

LOL Interesting, if you had asked me if this was smokey, I would have said – no. Love how we all perceive teas differently.

Courtney

Haha it was the first thing I noticed. Then I tried to tell myself it was all in my head and to keep drinking. I made it halfway through my cup before I finally looked up the reviews haha!

This is deep and dark and rich. I don’t know that I’d keep it on hand but not through any failings of the tea itself. I simply have plenty of other teas that are available in lesser amounts that do the same thing for me.

I did this with my water at home and noticed no smokiness. I have plenty left to try with filtered water at work, thanks to the generosity of ifjuly!

Oh dear lord it’s cold! A big storm came in while I was at work and I had to walk home in the middle of blizzard …wearing a jacket with a broken zipper. Needless to say I was absolutely chilled when I got home and promptly put on a pot of tea to warm me up.

This tea was a good choice – I’m pretty sure it came from the Traveling Teabox (rip) originally. It’s a good, solid black tea that does the trick without being unpalatably harsh. The flavour is bold with hints of smoke and a bit of astringency, and there’s also something about it that almost tastes metallic – I know that probably sounds unpleasant but it really isn’t. This would make an excellent morning go-to tea.
