Yunnan

Black Tea by Anteaques

An extravagant China Yunnan tea (also called dian hong tea). Classified as a golden flowery orange pekoe (GFOP) it has an exquisite, mildly earthy, sweet taste and a brassy orange colour.

This tea is named after the Chinese province of Yunnan. It is distinguished from other Chinese black teas by the characteristic rich earth tones in the flavour. The unique soils of the tea growing areas of Yunnan are thought to be responsible for this fascinating flavour.

I was really looking forward to this, because everything I’ve had from Anteaques in the past has been amazing. Unfortunately, however, this Yunnan tasted of almost nothing. It was like drinking hot water, except for the progressively drying effect on my tongue.

This Yunnan tea is a good example of what to expect from a nice black cuppa. Not too over powering, and I would not suggest adding milk or sugar. Offers a delicious caramel with barnyard aromas. By barnyard I mean think of freshly brushed clean horse. (I don’t know how to describe it otherwise!)
