Organic Decaf Coconut Black Tea

Black Fruit Blend by Arbor Teas

This organic, Fair Trade Certified blend combines rich Indian black tea with luxurious, tropical coconut! Because this tea is decaffeinated using a state-of-the art carbon dioxide (CO2) decaffeination process, the rich and coppery flavor of the tea comes through nicely. Also, CO2 decaffeination does not involve the use of harmful chemicals, so the resulting product is simply a healthy cup of tea with most of the caffeine removed (and no chemical overtones)!

Sustainability is a cornerstone of Arbor Teas’ business philosophy. In addition to offering an exclusively organic selection of teas, they recently became the first tea company to offer their whole catalog in 100% backyard compostable packaging. They’ve also carbon-offset the entire supply chain of their products, from origin to the customer, making Arbor Teas the greenest option for Earth-conscious tea drinkers, and one of few tea companies recognized by Green America.

I probably drink too much caffeine (if you look at my tea log you will not be surprised!)

I thought I would try this as a tea for dessert or afternoon. I was a little worried when I opened the bag, it smells a bit “fakey”, like artificial somehow. I am not sure if this due to the tea itself or by virtue of the fact that it’s a decaf tea. I think I steeped this for 3-4 minutes with boiling water and I did not add sugar, I did add soymilk. The description here says it has a rich and “coppery” flavor, which is definitely true, if copper had a flavor I think this would be it. I am wondering if this is a ceylon which is not my favorite thing among black teas. I think the coconut comes through pretty well here. It is not perfection but it is nice.

This is a good choice for an evening dessert type of tea if you don’t want to stay up all night. I might get some more eventually… I did get two steeps out of it which is also a bonus.

ok, I’m finishing off the rest of this sample tonight. I happen to really like cardamom and I thought the flavor was much better after steeping this with a couple of cardamom pods. Cardamom for everyone!!!!

Another new tea! This is my first from Arbor Teas. Holding off on a rating until I have tried it a few times.

As far as the tea goes, this one is pretty good and different from anything else I have in the decaf black tea category. For the first cup, I had it with milk and sweetener. I can definitely taste the coconut, but it is pretty subtle. It was good, but nothing really great to report. Need to do more research……..

The evening tea……

I really am getting sensitive to decafs. This one is about as decaf tasting as I can handle. A good decaf should taste natural in my opinion, but I know that is hard to find. I am not sure if it is the flavoring or the tea itself. It is good, but just good. I originally bought this one for a little variety, but I am thinking it is a variety I won’t miss when it is gone.

Coconut notes are light, tea base is average. I am afraid to steap a shorter time because it will make the coconut notes even lighter.

The last bit of evidence from my weekend coconut kick. As far as decafs go, this one is good, and still good on a resteep. I think it is possible that this one will go on the rebuy list, but it depends on how quickly I drink it and miss variety in my decafs…
