This adorably packaged mini-tea cake is the size of a chocolate chip cookie. Comprised of leaves from tea bushes grown in high altitude tea plantation, this tea offers full-bodied aromas with a hint of smokiness. After a couple of brews, the flavors of dried apricot and malt emerge. Uplifting, it is a perfect drink before you go to the gym or if you need to maintain your energy level in the mid-afternoon.

This morning I am finishing off this sheng sample from Bana. I remember fondly my revelation that sheng did not have to be a sour, assertive beast after trying some of theirs. I am certainly wanting to purchase a cake or two of this, see previous notes.

I felt this tea was pretty astringent (read: BITTER) and VERY grassy, both in taste and in the nose.

The color is not murky…much.

I found that using a cooler water made it halfway palatable.

This tea is not one I reach for very often. Bana Tea Co. was nice enough to send me a complimentary small sample of a ripe puerh. I liked that.
