The beginning of the semester always leaves me feeling like I was hit by a truck. The new students are so needy! When I got home, I actually said to my dog, “Let’s see how I can help you!” like I said to the students all day! Argh! It was definitely a lazy tea bag night. My throat hurts from so much talking and my stomach is in a knot, so I thought a mint tea with some honey would be super soothing. Ahhhh, it is.

This time I took the tea bag out after a few minutes – cardboardy papery taste minimized, but not completely gone. Still, nice to sit in bed with a warm mug of tea. Minty and comforting. When I am finished with what I have, though, I will be searching for another bagged herbal in the mint family.

I’m still feeling like crap, so excuse me while I rant for a second.

Why, in the name of all that is holy, are there ROSEHIPS AND HIBISCUS IN A MINT BLEND??!?!?! This makes me want to smash things. Instead of a nice refreshing mint tea I get a hint of mint followed by that ridiculously awful rosehips/hibiscus/red flavor. UGHHHHHH.

Is this a sophisticate’s dream tea; a connoisseur’s complicated cup? No. But the title is alliterative, and it’s damn easy to prepare. Both desired traits in a sniffly writer. This is my go-to “Sniffles Blend”. In fact, if I had a vote, I would call it Sniffles Blend. However, Mint Medley sounds much prettier. It has all the lemoniness, mintiness and awesomeness to help me BREATHE again. And it tastes good. I am forever a fan, snobbery be damned.

Mint teas always make me slow down…maybe it’s because I can’t help but stop and breathe the steam; deep cleansing breaths. I need to take several today for various and sundry reasons.

Dry bag smells just like a stick of Wrigley’s. It’s heavy on the spearmint side, no bitterness. Yep, chewing gum in a cup.

It’s at work and it’s free, what more can I say?

This is a blend of spearmint and peppermint, I guess you would either like something like this or you don’t. It’s kinda hard to mess this up, I’d imagine. Might be better if it was organic. I still like the Mint Fields by Republic of Tea due to the lemon balm added.

There are some other nicknacks in here, but this more or less is straight up peppermint and spearmint. Personally, I’d rather just brew up some pure dried mint as a tea, but if you need the convenience of bags, this is as good a pick as any other bagged mint.

A review of Mint Medley (Herb Tea) by Bigelow

Date: 10/02/2012
Company: Bigelow
Tea Name: Mint Medley
Tea Type/Varietal:
Region: Herbal
Steeping Vessel/Amt. Leaf: cup / tea bag
Plucking Season:
Liquor Color: light brown
Leaf Characteristics:

  1. Steepings

1st Steeping:
Water temperature: 185 Fahrenheit
Time: 3 minutes
Note: I had this tea as my cup of medicinal mint to end the day. I Steeped for few minutes with very hot water. I find that this medley of peppermint leaves and spearmint leaves is mild enough to sooth and help one to relax after a long day. If there is not chamomile tea then there is this cup of mint tea to soothe into the nighttime.

There’s just something about this tisane. This was my first toe dip into “tea” when I was much younger and all tea or tisane items were banned from my house (raised LDS). I used to wait until everyone else was asleep and I’d sneak downstairs and make this. The stash was hidden in various places in the small tea bags. Some inside a sock there, the pocket of a ill fitting dress jacket or most comically, under the heating grate in my floor. The lengths that I’d go to hide this stuff was insane. But well worth it. It has long been my fix for sniffles and heartburn. I love this and it always has a calming effect.
I picked up the most recent box for a steal at the Walmart. I love fancy tea but this one is just back to my roots comfort. I never really noticed the other ingredients but still enjoy the mix. If I ever had the misfortune of having to once again hide my tea habit this one would still be worth being caught for!

Wow, I haven’t logged this one in a really, really long time. The tea itself still tastes very fresh despite being so old. I have been feeling really terrible since yesterday and this is the first tea I’ve had in probably two days because I was worried about strong flavors. This is perfect for today though as I’m trying to get some more liquid in my system. It is minty, fresh, and very soothing.

Ah late night tea time! :) I seem to have run out of rooibos and that Swiss Vervaine still hasn’t been sorted out; so this will be my night time cuppa!
I noticed this time that the color on this is actually quite…swampy? Maybe it’s the hibiscus in this. Still, it is my go to sleepy time mix. :)

This tea smooths out the stronger edginess of straight peppermint tea with the lighter coolness of spearmint. I like to steep this for longer than recommended because the aroma just gets better! A great everyday addition at the end of a good meal as mint is good for your stomach and digestion. Plus it fights the whole bad breath thing. Always a plus in my book!

So all the tannic made my stomach achey, so this is my solution.
But only after downing a 5hr energy.
Man do I love college.

Found it in my pockets of magic and tea. Confused my friends as they thought it was a slightly more raunchy sort of packet.
Anyways, good tea for a bland but filling dinner. Still minty and refreshing while soothing.

I like Moroccan Mint Green from stash, but when the Dr. gives me the less caffeine speech I mix 2 of these with 3 Bigelow Decaf Green bags in my tea maker. I can drink that on ice all summer.

I feel meh about this tea. It’s easy to find when you’re traveling and didn’t bring your own tea stash, but it’s not really that great tasting. I guess I just like straight peppermint.

I don’t like you very much. You’re all weird and red and tart. That’s not what I was expecting at all :(

This is a very gentle mint tea – a nice combo of peppermint and spearmint. It’s my go-to when I have a tummy ache, and it’s nice in the evening when I want something with a fresh taste, but that isn’t too invigoratingly minty.

I didn’t notice that it had hibiscus until after I read the box recently – I don’t notice it much in the taste. I usually add a small amount of honey to it.

Scene: 9:30 p.m., and I’ve just walked a half-hour in the rain with a broken umbrella. My dress shoes are waterlogged. At that point, any tea is a good idea.

Mint seems to be my default; when I’m tired or cranky it’s a good option. And this was okay for the 10:00 p.m. train ride home, but not something I’d pick up every day. It’s that fake minty taste (someone likened it to toothpaste), not reminiscent of real mint, but I can deal with it as a late-night option.

Original tea that I started out with. Long time favorite.

I’ve been drinking this tea for YEARS. It’s probably my all time favorite mint tea. I’ve tried loose leaf mint teas, and mint teas from other companies, but I always come back to this one. Omg it’s just perfect. Not too minty, smooth, great with milk or without. Makes a great cup of mint iced tea too! Who cares if it’s in a bag!

I have plenty of dried mint at home, but if I’m at work and manage to overeat, or eat something that doesn’t agree with me, I can easily find a bag of Mint Medley, and then I’m on my way to relief. There’s nothing fancy frou about a straight-up mint blend like this one, but does there need to be? This is more spearmint than peppermint, but both are present in this cooling cup. The only twist in Mint Medley is a light hit of that tart, quintessential ‘sour red herbal tea’ flavor from the rosehip and hibiscus – but it’s very slight, and if you’d rather not experience any of that in your mint tea – that tart flavor virtually disappears under the power of mint if you steep it for a bit longer.

It’s one of my favorite tea drinks for when I want to drink something really cool and fresh.

Not exactly a mint tea… it’s not too minty but it’s still very good! It’s very relaxing.
