It tastes like exactly what it is – rooibos with almond flavoring and sugar (in the form of candy hearts). I haven’t had rooibos in a while and I’ve always had a love/hate relationship with the stuff. Can’t really decide how I feel about this one personally…

On a more objective note, it brews a dark red-orange like all good rooibos should, and the almond & sugar are strongly present, followed by the more earthy sweetness of the rooibos. Adding any more sugar to this after brewing would be a very bad idea, I think, as it is already about as sweet as a southern sweet tea.

I do think this blend would make a nice romantic gift for valentine’s day or otherwise, since it is red and has little pink sugar hearts in it. I also think the sweetness of this blend would make it a good dessert tea, esp. for evenings since rooibos is caffeine free (as long as you don’t get a sugar rush!).

I cut open a bag of Tetley Rooibos Vanilla Pear and dumped in in the IngenuiTea, added 1tsp of Blue Raven’s “I Heart Almonds” (minus the pink sugar hearts) and steeped in 16oz water. The pear, almond, and vanilla flavors blend together perfectly. This is a very nice decaf evening tea. I’m having it with headless gingerbread man (cookie swap reject)!

I guess I should call this “I unheart almonds,” because that’s what I did — removed the sugarhearts from my teaspoon (about 9) and steeped for 8 min to get a strong cup of rooibos with a gentle hint of almond. The natural sweetness of the rooibos, plus whatever residual sugar was left, is just sweet enough for me. Added a generous glug of 2% milk (a bit too generous, really) but it is now an enjoyable drink for me, whereas before it was FAR too sweet.

De-hearted, with a splash of milk. A good soothing evening tisane.

removed sugarhearts before steeping, as per my norm

I like the almond flavoring, but the sugar overpowers it. I think next time I’m going to pick most if not all of the sugar hearts out of my teaspoon before I brew it…
